Your guide to the best luxury hotels in Malta

Our Malta selection holds eleven properties in the 5-star category – and comparing their benefits turns up two things: only one single benefit applies at all eleven, and nearly every other one carries a condition.Hyatt Regency MaltaHyatt Regency Malta · St. George's Bay Saint Julian'sWith every booking through suitespot you receive:
  • Breakfast for two – at all eleven properties
  • Early check-in & late check-out – at ten
  • Room upgrade – at nine, and at two more in a different form
  • Hotel credit at five of the eleven – the amounts differ
  • At one property an airport transfer, at one a picnic

The most affordable start is Hyatt Centric Malta at around €96 per night; at the top end sits Iniala Harbour House Valletta at around €510. A typical rate in Malta is about €151.

That is the lowest median entry in our entire selection – eight of the eleven properties start below 200 €.

All the more reason to look closely at what the rate actually contains.

Only one benefit applies at all eleven properties

We laid the benefit lists of our eleven Maltese properties side by side. Only one single item appears at all eleven: the breakfast for two.The Westin Dragonara Resort MaltaThe Westin Dragonara Resort Malta · San ĠiljanEarly check-in and late check-out are missing at one property, The Xara Palace Mdina. A room upgrade on arrival is carried by nine of the eleven.Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comAsk via WhatsAppWrite an emailAt the two that lack it, though, this is not a shortfall but a different promise. The Hyatt Regency Malta and the Hyatt Centric Malta carry an upgrade confirmed at booking instead of on arrival. The difference is practical: with an upgrade subject to availability you find out on the day of arrival whether it works – with an upgrade at booking the category is fixed beforehand.

And then there are the conditions. In Malta a strikingly large share of benefits carries a restriction you cannot see from the label:

The credit at the Hyatt Regency Malta is 75 USD, not 100.
At the Corinthia Palace Malta the 100 USD credit applies only from the Grand Deluxe category and not in the Bahia restaurant; the breakfast applies in one particular restaurant; the airport transfer only from the Deluxe category.
At the Cugo Gran Macina Malta, where a dinner would normally sit, there is a Mediterranean picnic by the pool or during an excursion.

We name these conditions because they are what makes the difference – and because a comparison that reads only the headings gives a false picture here.

suitespot rates are full direct rates: the benefits are added to the regular rate.

The eleven properties

We sort them by entry rate, because in Malta those sit unusually close together.

Above 200 €: Iniala Harbour House, The Phoenicia and The Xara Palace

The Iniala Harbour House Valletta (from around 510 €) is the dearest entry in the country and carries the broadest package: I Prefer, points, a 100 USD credit, a welcome gift, complimentary internet, an upgrade and no minimum stay. Of 28 categories, 16 are suites, at 23 to 186 m².Hyatt Centric MaltaHyatt Centric Malta · San ĠiljanThe Phoenicia Malta in Floriana (from around 269 €) belongs to the Leaders Club and credits its points at the time of booking. 31 categories, seven of them suites, at 22 to 79 m².

The Xara Palace Mdina (from around 238 €) is the only property without a loyalty programme and carries the shortest list in the selection: breakfast, welcome gift and upgrade – no early check-in or late check-out. Of nine categories, six are suites, at 28 to 73 m².

Between 140 and 200 €: five properties

The Cugo Gran Macina Malta in Cospicua (from around 199 €) is a special case: all six accommodation categories are suites, at 40 to 130 m². It belongs to Marriott Bonvoy and carries, instead of a dinner, a Mediterranean picnic by the pool or during an excursion.

The Kempinski San Lawrenz Gozo Malta (from around 180 €) is the only property off the main island, belongs to GHA Discovery and carries a 50 USD credit. 25 categories, six of them suites, at 35 to 248 m² – the widest solid range in the selection.

The Marriott Malta (from around 151 €) and The Westin Dragonara Resort Malta (from around 146 €) both sit in the St. Julian's area, both belong to Marriott Bonvoy and carry the same list: points, welcome gift, internet, upgrade, no minimum stay. The Westin Dragonara is with 96 accommodation categories by far the largest property in the country; 27 of them are suites. The Marriott Malta holds 20 suites among 35 categories.

The InterContinental Malta in St. Julian's (from around 142 €) belongs to IHG One Rewards and carries a 100 USD credit. 33 categories, eleven of them suites, at 35 to 230 m².

Corinthia Palace Malta – the property with the most conditions

The Corinthia Palace Malta in Tal-Mirakli (from around 140 €) belongs to GHA Discovery and is the only property in the selection with an airport transfer. A closer look pays here, though, because three of its benefits are tied to conditions:

The airport transfer applies only from the Deluxe category, return.
The 100 USD credit applies only from the Grand Deluxe category and not in the Bahia restaurant.
The breakfast applies in one particular restaurant of the property.

Of nine categories, two are suites, at 30 to 90 m². The property carries no complimentary internet.

Below 140 €: the two Hyatts and their different upgrade

The Hyatt Regency Malta (from around 122 €) and the Hyatt Centric Malta (from around 97 €) both belong to World of Hyatt and both carry the upgrade confirmed at booking rather than on arrival.

The Hyatt Regency Malta carries a credit of 75 USD for food and drink – not 100, as the label first suggests. Eleven categories, three of them suites, at 32 to 55 m².

The Hyatt Centric Malta is at around 97 € the cheapest entry in our entire Malta selection and carries a 50 USD credit, a welcome gift and complimentary internet. Six categories, one of them a suite.

What a night costs

Entry rates across our eleven properties run from around 97 € at the Hyatt Centric Malta to around 510 € at the Iniala Harbour House Valletta. The median entry is about 151 €.Corinthia Palace MaltaCorinthia Palace Malta · Tal-MirakliThat is the lowest median entry in our entire selection. Eight of the eleven start below 200 €, six of them even below 155 €.

The lower half is very tight. Between the Marriott Malta (151 €), the Westin Dragonara (146 €), the InterContinental Malta (142 €) and the Corinthia Palace (140 €) lie a total of eleven euros. Between those four you are therefore not really deciding on price.

What decides instead is the programme and the small print: three times Marriott Bonvoy, once IHG One Rewards, once GHA Discovery – and at the Corinthia Palace three benefits depend on the category booked.

Only one property pulls away at the top: the Iniala Harbour House sits around 241 € above the next dearest – and carries the broadest package in exchange.

We can only speak for our own inventory and cannot rank the island.

Six programmes across eleven properties

Ten of our eleven properties belong to a loyalty programme – but to six different ones. No other destination in our selection is spread this widely.

Marriott Bonvoy with three (The Westin Dragonara Resort, Cugo Gran Macina, Marriott Malta).
GHA Discovery with two (Corinthia Palace, Kempinski San Lawrenz Gozo).
World of Hyatt with two (Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Centric).
I Prefer with one (Iniala Harbour House Valletta).
IHG One Rewards with one (InterContinental Malta).
The Leaders Club with one (The Phoenicia Malta).

Only one property belongs to none: The Xara Palace Mdina.

For you that means something practical: in Malta you will almost certainly find a property in the programme you already collect in – and you barely have to accept a price difference for it, because eight of the eleven start below 200 €.

The Leaders Club has one distinctive feature: at The Phoenicia Malta the points are credited at the time of booking, not after the stay.

A hotel credit is carried by five of the eleven, and the amounts differ more than the labels suggest: 100 USD at the Iniala Harbour House, at the InterContinental Malta and – from the Grand Deluxe category – at the Corinthia Palace. 50 USD at the Kempinski San Lawrenz and the Hyatt Centric. 75 USD at the Hyatt Regency.

Complimentary internet is carried by seven of the eleven.

Suites, sizes, minimum stay and locations

Across the eleven properties sit 289 accommodation categories, 105 of them suites.Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comAsk via WhatsAppWrite an emailMost are at The Westin Dragonara Resort Malta: 27 of 96 categories – making it also by far the largest property in the country. Then the Marriott Malta with 20 of 35 and the Iniala Harbour House with 16 of 28.

What stands out, though, is a small property: at the Cugo Gran Macina Malta all six categories are suites.

For three properties we give no sizes, because we hold a square-metre figure for none of their categories: The Westin Dragonara Resort, Marriott Malta and Hyatt Centric Malta. We would rather say so than estimate a number.

Where sizes are solid: Kempinski San Lawrenz 35 to 248 m², InterContinental Malta 35 to 230 m², Iniala Harbour House 23 to 186 m², Cugo Gran Macina 40 to 130 m², Corinthia Palace 30 to 90 m², The Phoenicia 22 to 79 m², The Xara Palace 28 to 73 m² and Hyatt Regency 32 to 55 m².

On the minimum stay our sources contradict each other – in both directions. The Hyatt Regency Malta lists two nights in its benefits, but its booking field reads zero. At the Hyatt Centric Malta it is the other way round: the field says two nights, the benefit list says nothing. At the other nine properties the field reads zero. We therefore claim no number and confirm the actual condition for your dates before you book.

The locations: five properties sit in the St. Julian's area – the Marriott Malta, The Westin Dragonara Resort, the InterContinental Malta, the Hyatt Regency and the Hyatt Centric. Then come Valletta (Iniala Harbour House), Floriana (The Phoenicia), Mdina (The Xara Palace), Cospicua (Cugo Gran Macina), Tal-Mirakli (Corinthia Palace) and San Lawrenz on Gozo (Kempinski) – the only property off the main island.

As a suitespot guest you travel with VIP status: we register your preferences with the property before arrival.

In Malta what our travel advisors most often take on is exactly what this page names openly: settling which benefit is tied to which room category – before you book, not after.

Frequently asked questions about luxury hotels in Malta

How much does a luxury hotel in Malta cost?

Entry rates across our eleven properties run from around 97 € at the Hyatt Centric Malta to around 510 € at the Iniala Harbour House Valletta per night. The median entry is about 151 €.

That is the lowest median entry in our entire selection. Eight of the eleven start below 200 €.

The middle is especially tight: between the Marriott Malta (151 €), the Westin Dragonara (146 €), the InterContinental Malta (142 €) and the Corinthia Palace (140 €) lie a total of eleven euros.

Which benefits are really included in every rate in Malta?

Only one: the breakfast for two. It appears at all eleven properties.

Early check-in and late check-out are carried by ten of the eleven – missing at The Xara Palace Mdina. A room upgrade on arrival is carried by nine; the two Hyatts carry an upgrade confirmed at booking instead.

And many benefits carry a condition you cannot see from the label: the credit at the Hyatt Regency is 75 USD rather than 100; at the Corinthia Palace the credit and the airport transfer apply only from certain room categories; at the Cugo Gran Macina a Mediterranean picnic stands where a dinner would.

We name these conditions because they are what makes the difference.

Do I earn points on suitespot bookings in Malta?

At ten of the eleven properties – and in six different programmes. No other destination in our selection is spread this widely.

Marriott Bonvoy (The Westin Dragonara Resort, Cugo Gran Macina, Marriott Malta) · GHA Discovery (Corinthia Palace, Kempinski San Lawrenz Gozo) · World of Hyatt (Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Centric) · I Prefer (Iniala Harbour House Valletta) · IHG One Rewards (InterContinental Malta) · Leaders Club (The Phoenicia Malta).

Only The Xara Palace Mdina belongs to none.

At The Phoenicia the Leaders Club points are credited at the time of booking.

Is there a hotel credit in Malta?

At five of the eleven properties, and the amounts differ:

100 USD at the Iniala Harbour House Valletta and the InterContinental Malta. At the Corinthia Palace Malta also 100 USD – but only from the Grand Deluxe category and not in the Bahia restaurant.

75 USD at the Hyatt Regency Malta – not 100, as the label first suggests.

50 USD at the Kempinski San Lawrenz Gozo Malta and the Hyatt Centric Malta.

Why do the two Hyatt properties not offer an upgrade on arrival?

Because they carry a different upgrade: the Hyatt Regency Malta and the Hyatt Centric Malta confirm the upgrade at the time of booking, rather than on arrival subject to availability.

The difference is practical: with an upgrade subject to availability you only find out on the day of arrival whether it works. With an upgrade at booking the category is fixed beforehand.

So it is not a weaker promise but a different one – and depending on the occasion, the second is the more dependable.

Which hotel in Malta has an airport transfer?

The Corinthia Palace Malta in Tal-Mirakli (from around 140 €) – the only one of our eleven. The transfer is a return one, but applies only from the Deluxe category.

The same property is otherwise the one with the most conditions: its 100 USD credit applies only from the Grand Deluxe category and not in the Bahia restaurant, and its breakfast in one particular restaurant.

We tell you beforehand so that you can choose the category accordingly – rather than discovering on site that a benefit does not apply.

Which hotel in Malta has the most suites?

The Westin Dragonara Resort Malta, with 27 suites among 96 accommodation categories – it is at the same time by far the largest property in our Malta selection. Then the Marriott Malta with 20 of 35 and the Iniala Harbour House Valletta with 16 of 28.

What stands out, though, is a small property: at the Cugo Gran Macina Malta in Cospicua all six categories are suites, at 40 to 130 m².

In total we count 105 suites among 289 categories in Malta.

Where in Malta should I stay?

Five of our eleven properties sit in the St. Julian's area: the Marriott Malta, The Westin Dragonara Resort, the InterContinental Malta, the Hyatt Regency and the Hyatt Centric.

Then come Valletta (Iniala Harbour House), Floriana (The Phoenicia), Mdina (The Xara Palace), Cospicua (Cugo Gran Macina) and Tal-Mirakli (Corinthia Palace).

One property lies off the main island: the Kempinski San Lawrenz Gozo Malta.

Which location works for your dates is something our travel advisors will gladly assemble with you.
