Why the price span misleads
Entry rates run from around 175 € to around 4,393 € – arithmetically a factor of twenty-five. The Residences at Nekajui Ritz-Carlton Reserve starts at around 4,393 €. Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve starts at around 1,195 € – both on the 253 National Route on the Peninsula Papagayo.
Waldorf Astoria Residences Costa Rica Punta Cacique starts at around 1,575 €, the Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique at around 507 € – both on Ruta Nacional 159 at Playa Penca.
So anyone reading 4,393 € as “the most expensive hotel in Costa Rica” is reading a residence entry – a different product, not a different price tier of the same property. We say so openly, because otherwise the comparison is skewed.
The actual field looks like this: six properties start below 250 €, 17 between 250 and 600 € – that is the bulk – and seven from 600 €. The median entry is about 393 €.
Programmes, credit and two unusual benefits
20 of the 30 properties belong to a loyalty programme, across six different ones: Marriott Bonvoy leads with twelve, joined by two each at Leaders Club, I Prefer and Hilton Honors, and one each at World of Hyatt and IHG One Rewards. Ten properties belong to none.
The hotel credit is less tidy than a single figure suggests: it comes in seven different forms, and 25 of the 30 carry at least one. The most common is 100 USD freely usable (16 properties); alongside it sit 100 USD for the spa only (four), 50 USD (four) and further variants. Five properties carry none.
Two benefits fall outside the pattern and are worth naming.
