Luxury hotel rooms and suites in Puerto Vallarta: your guide

Puerto Vallarta is one of the few selections in our portfolio where every single house belongs to a points programme – all 7 hand-picked luxury hotels, without exception. They run from the Casa Velas in Marina Vallarta to the Sheraton Buganvilias on the bay. Entry rates sit between around 200 € and 490 € per night, at a median of about 300 € – a factor of two and a half between the cheapest and the dearest, an unusually narrow span for a beach destination.Casa Velas Hotel Boutique Puerto VallartaCasa Velas Hotel Boutique Puerto Vallarta · Marina VallartaWith every booking through suitespot you receive a comprehensive package of suitespot benefits:
  • Complimentary breakfast for two
  • Room upgrade subject to availability
  • Up to 100 USD hotel credit per stay
  • Early check-in and late check-out subject to availability
  • Standard points and status benefits in the hotel programmes

In Marina Vallarta to the north, near the airport, stand the Casa Velas Hotel Boutique on Calle Pelícanos (from around 490 €) – the highest entry rate in our selection –, the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort on Paseo la Marina Norte (250 €) and The Westin Resort on Paseo de la Marina (200 €) – the lowest entry rate in our selection.

In the Zona Hotelera along the bay follow the Hyatt Ziva (360 €), the Hilton Vallarta Riviera (290 €) and the Sheraton Buganvilias on Boulevard Francisco Medina Ascencio (220 €).

And on the south coast, on the road to Barra de Navidad, sits the Hotel Mousai (420 €).

Rooms and suites: which houses run the longest cards

If it is rooms and suites you are comparing rather than hotels, Puerto Vallarta rewards looking down the price list rather than up it.Hyatt Ziva Puerto VallartaHyatt Ziva Puerto VallartaThe longest card belongs to The Westin Resort with eight categories, followed by the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort with seven – and at 250 € the Marriott is among the more affordable houses in the selection. Both belong to Marriott Bonvoy. The Westin also carries the lowest entry rate in the selection, at around 200 €.Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. One exception worth stating plainly: the Sheraton Buganvilias (220 €) carries no separate suite categories in our data. It is the lowest entry rate and the closest to the old town, but if space is what you are after, it is not the house.

Our travel advisors' insider tip

Three things about Vallarta.

First the programmes, which is the real distinction here: all seven houses belong to a points programme – three Marriott Bonvoy, two iPrefer, one each World of Hyatt and Hilton Honors. Few of our destinations manage that. Whichever status you hold, you will be earning points and status nights here.

Second the span. Between the Westin (200 €) and the Casa Velas (490 €) there is a factor of two and a half – remarkably little for a beach destination. Which means the decision here is made on location and on whether meals should be included, not on rate.

Third the season. December to April is the dry high season. July to October is the rainy season with hurricane risk, and rates fall accordingly. The humpback whales are in the Bay of Banderas from December to March – which is why many guests take the high season anyway.

5-star hotels in Puerto Vallarta by area

Puerto Vallarta stretches along the Bay of Banderas, and the three areas in our selection are genuinely different from one another.Hilton Vallarta RivieraHilton Vallarta RivieraThese three cover the whole portfolio.

Marina Vallarta – the north

The north, near the airport and around the marina: the Casa Velas Hotel Boutique on Calle Pelícanos (from around 490 €), the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort on Paseo la Marina Norte (250 €) and The Westin Resort on Paseo de la Marina (200 €). Golf courses, harbour restaurants and the shortest transfers.

Zona Hotelera – on the bay

The middle strip between the marina and the centre, directly on the bay: the Hyatt Ziva (360 €), the Hilton Vallarta Riviera (290 €) and the Sheraton Buganvilias (220 €). Closest to the old town and the Zona Romántica – and where the lowest entry rate sits.

The south coast – the road to Barra de Navidad

South of the city, on the road to Barra de Navidad: the Hotel Mousai (420 €), built into a cliff above the water. The quietest and most striking setting in the selection – and the one where every dinner in town means a drive.

All-inclusive in Vallarta: exactly one house

A point frequently assumed wrongly about Mexico: only one of our seven houses in Vallarta is all-inclusive – the Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta (from around 360 €).Hotel Mousai Puerto VallartaHotel Mousai Puerto Vallarta · Zona Hotelera SurThe other six are regular hotels and resorts where food and drink are charged separately. That is not a shortcoming but a different kind of trip: Puerto Vallarta has, in the Zona Romántica and the old town, one of the better restaurant scenes on Mexico's Pacific coast, and if you want to eat there you pay for all-inclusive twice.

Our travel advisors' rule of thumb: if you are travelling with children, or intend to spend a week barely leaving the grounds, the Hyatt Ziva is the answer. If you want to go into town in the evenings, any of the other six suits better – and the Sheraton Buganvilias (220 €) is the closest to the old town.

What a stay in Puerto Vallarta costs

The highest entry rate belongs to the Casa Velas Hotel Boutique at around 490 € per night, followed by the Hotel Mousai on the south coast (420 €) and the Hyatt Ziva (360 €).

Below them come the Hilton Vallarta Riviera (290 €), the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort (250 €) and the Sheraton Buganvilias (220 €). The Westin Resort carries the lowest entry rate in our selection, at around 200 €.

The median entry rate is around 300 € per night. What stands out is the narrow span: a factor of two and a half between cheapest and dearest. For comparison, the spread in Mexico City runs to twelvefold.

In practice that means rate is not the deciding variable here. Location, all-inclusive and the suite card are.

Whales, the Islas Marietas and exclusive services

What our travel advisors arrange most often in Puerto Vallarta are whale-watching trips – the humpbacks are in the Bay of Banderas from December to March –, boat excursions to the Islas Marietas and their hidden beach cave, which operates under a limited daily quota and has to be booked ahead, and tables in the Zona Romántica.Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comAsk via WhatsAppWrite an emailFor orientation: the airport sits right by Marina Vallarta, so five to ten minutes from the three houses there and roughly twenty to thirty from the south coast. Between the northernmost and southernmost house in our selection is a good half hour's drive.

As a suitespot guest you travel with VIP status: we pass your preferences to the hotel before arrival – in Puerto Vallarta most often a higher floor facing the bay, which is a category of its own in several houses. On top of that, at every house: breakfast for two, a room upgrade subject to availability and up to 100 USD hotel credit.

And because all seven houses belong to a points programme, you are earning points and status nights at the same time – without exception, which is rare in our portfolio.

Frequently asked questions about luxury hotels in Puerto Vallarta

How much does a luxury hotel room in Puerto Vallarta cost?

Entry rates across our seven houses sit between around 200 € per night (The Westin Resort) and around 490 € per night (Casa Velas Hotel Boutique). The median is about 300 €. The Westin Resort carries the lowest entry rate in our selection, at around 200 €.

What stands out is the narrow span: a factor of two and a half between cheapest and dearest – in Mexico City it is twelvefold. Rate is therefore not the deciding variable here.

With suitespot you always book at direct rates, and the benefits worth more than 500 € come on top.

Which hotels in Puerto Vallarta have the best suites?

The longest card belongs to The Westin Resort with eight categories, followed by the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort with seven – and at 250 € the Marriott is among the more affordable houses in the selection.

Above them, the Casa Velas (490 €), the Hyatt Ziva (360 €) and the Hilton Vallarta Riviera (290 €) each run four categories, and the Hotel Mousai (420 €) two.

One exception, stated plainly: the Sheraton Buganvilias (220 €) carries no separate suite categories in our data. Lowest rate and closest to the old town – but not the house if space is the point.

Which hotels in Puerto Vallarta are all-inclusive?

Exactly one: the Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta (from around 360 €). The other six are regular hotels and resorts where food and drink are charged separately.

This is often assumed otherwise about Mexico, so we say it plainly. It is also not a shortcoming: Vallarta has one of the better restaurant scenes on Mexico's Pacific coast, in the Zona Romántica and the old town.

The rule of thumb: with children, or for a week spent mostly on the property, the Hyatt Ziva is the answer. If you want to eat in town, any of the other six works better – the Sheraton Buganvilias (220 €) is closest to the old town.

Which area of Puerto Vallarta should I stay in?

Marina Vallarta in the north is the most practical: the airport is five to ten minutes away, there are golf courses and harbour restaurants, and it holds the Casa Velas (490 €), the Marriott (250 €) and The Westin Resort (200 €).

The Zona Hotelera on the bay is closest to the old town and the Zona Romántica: the Hyatt Ziva (360 €), the Hilton Vallarta Riviera (290 €) and the Sheraton Buganvilias (220 €).

The south coast, with the Hotel Mousai (420 €), is the quietest and most scenic – and the one where every dinner in town means a drive of twenty to thirty minutes.

Do I earn points and can I use my status when booking with suitespot?

In Puerto Vallarta without exception: all seven houses belong to a points programme – something few of our destinations manage.

Marriott Bonvoy has three (Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort, Sheraton Buganvilias, The Westin Resort), iPrefer two (Casa Velas, Hotel Mousai), with one each for World of Hyatt (Hyatt Ziva) and Hilton Honors (Hilton Vallarta Riviera).

We book at direct rates, so points and status nights continue to accrue and your status is recognised as normal. The suitespot benefits come on top.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?

December to April is the high season: dry, pleasantly warm and the busiest period of the year. July to October is the rainy season with hurricane risk, and rates fall accordingly.

One reason argues clearly for the high season: the humpback whales are in the Bay of Banderas from December to March. If you want to see them, the window is fixed.

The shoulder months of May and November are usually the best compromise between weather and rate.

Which hotel in Puerto Vallarta has the best view?

The Hotel Mousai (420 €) on the south coast, without much competition: it is built into a cliff above the water, and the outlook over the Bay of Banderas is the reason the house is shaped the way it is.

On the bay itself, the Hyatt Ziva (360 €) and the Hilton Vallarta Riviera (290 €) have the direct water frontage, while in the marina the Casa Velas (490 €) sits on a golf course rather than the beach – with its own beach club on the bay.

In every house the sea view is a separate and dearer category. Tell our travel advisors before booking and we will register the preference with the hotel.

Which hotel in Puerto Vallarta offers the best value?

The Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort at around 250 € per night: it sits on Paseo la Marina Norte, belongs to Marriott Bonvoy and runs seven suite categories – the second-longest card in the selection, behind the Westin and ahead of every dearer house.

The Sheraton Buganvilias (220 €) is the closest to the old town, but carries no separate suite categories.

And if meals should be included, the Hyatt Ziva (360 €) adds up quickly as the only all-inclusive house – as soon as you are eating more than one meal a day on the property.
