The category ladder here has exactly one rung – and that is the most important thing to know.
The hotel has a single category: a bungalow of 88 square metres. That is rare – and it makes the decision simple.
In practice that means the questions you would otherwise put to us all fall away. No comparison between room and suite. No floor. No choice of size. Exactly one decision remains – and it is a matter of timing:
• When. Give us the travel window first. At a hotel with one category, availability is the only variable there is – it is either free or it is not.
• How long. A minimum stay of two nights applies. On an island reached via Auckland that is the lower bound of sensible anyway – reckon on five instead.
• And therefore: early. A hotel with one category has no second price bracket to fall back on. It is free or it is gone.
Our advice: ask us about the calendar first here, not about the room.
The Little Polynesian Resort stands in Titikaveka on Rarotonga’s south coast. This is the side of the island where the lagoon is widest and calmest: the reef lies further out here than in the north, and in between the water stands hip-deep.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone coming to snorkel and swim who would rather not drive somewhere first.
What is within reach: the ring road – there is exactly one, it is called Ara Tapu, and the local bus runs it clockwise and anticlockwise, which is all the public transport the island needs; Muri Beach in the east with its offshore motus, a few kilometres on; and the Cross-Island Track, which leads from the north under the saddle below Te Rua Manga to the south side – half a day straight through the interior.
For orientation: Avarua, the main settlement on the north coast, is about twenty minutes by car, and the airport roughly the same. And the island of Aitutaki with its great lagoon is fifty minutes away by air.
The Little Polynesian Resort carries one room category: a bungalow of 88 square metres. That is the whole list.
It sounds like little and is in truth a simplification. 88 square metres is more than many suites measure – and because there is only this one layout, what you book is what you get. There is no category here that turns out afterwards to have been the smaller one.
What does differ is the position within the grounds: how close to the water, how far into the garden. Ask our travel advisors about that before you commit; it is the only room question still left.
What comes with this bungalow: breakfast for two people, daily, and a 50 US dollar hotel credit. Both apply to every stay alike, because there is only one kind here.
A night at the luxury hotel on Rarotonga starts at 621 euros.
A stay begins at two nights. On an island flown to via Auckland that makes practically no difference – nobody flies to the South Pacific for one night.
Included are: breakfast for two people, the 50 US dollar hotel credit, and early check-in and late check-out subject to availability – on an island with night-time arrivals, that is the benefit you actually notice.
When it is most pleasant: from May to October. This is the dry season: around twenty-five degrees, low humidity, and the lagoon lies still.
When the water is warmest: from December to March. The lagoon is then bath-warm, the island is in flower, and because it is low season you have the beach largely to yourself.
When it is busiest: in July and August and around the turn of the year. July also brings Te Maeva Nui, the festival week of self-government, with dance and drums from every island.
When to enquire early: always – and especially between November and April, when the cyclone season runs. Ask us about rates with room to rebook in that window; at a hotel with a single category, flexibility is worth more than the best rate.
How long to stay: five to seven nights – or ten if you add Aitutaki.
And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in the quietest week of the year just as you do in the busiest.
Rarotonga is not an island for itineraries. There is one road, one lagoon and a mountain in the middle, and most of what you do here happens between the three.

Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comThree things belong to it. First the lagoon off Titikaveka: on the south coast it is at its widest, the water stands shallow all the way to the reef, and you snorkel from the shore without a boat. Second the Cross-Island Track: a path across the island, under the needle of Te Rua Manga, which turns into a scramble after heavy rain. Third the Punanga Nui market in Avarua on a Saturday morning – fruit, pearls and music, with half the island in between.
For everything else there is the hotel credit: 50 US dollars, with no rate condition and no further strings.
What our travel advisors arrange most often: the trip to Aitutaki – fifty minutes by air to a lagoon many consider the finest in the Pacific – and the hire car or scooter, because there is a bus but it serves only the ring road and stops in the evening.
The benefits of this hotel apply independently of any programme membership: the credit and the breakfast come with no small print, and there is nothing to sign up for.

A night starts at 621 euros. Since it is our only hotel on the island and there is only one room category, that is also the only price we can quote.

Yes, two nights. Arriving via Auckland, that hardly matters – we recommend five to seven anyway.
