Our advice: Take the name seriously. The Petite Double is called that because it is small; anyone wanting space books Grand Deluxe with city view by name – that is the category with the view of the station square and the city wall. Anyone wanting the suite tells our travel advisors “Suite” or “Executive Suite”, not “Junior Suite”. And at a price of 99 euros the upgrade on arrival is the best benefit in the package: it leads into a room whose cut nobody knew beforehand.
Where to stay in Nuremberg: opposite the main station, in front of the city wall
The Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nuremberg stands at Bahnhofstraße 1, three hundred metres from the main station – on the other side of the square – and immediately in front of the Königstor, through which one walks into the old town. The Hauptmarkt is eight hundred metres away, the imperial castle a good kilometre uphill.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone arriving by rail and wanting to stay without a car: trade-fair visitors taking the underground to the fair, city-breakers walking into the old town, travellers passing through with one night between two trains.
What lies within reach: the Handwerkerhof just behind the Königstor, the half-timbered craft yard against the city wall, two minutes; the Hauptmarkt with the Schöner Brunnen and the Frauenkirche, ten minutes; and the imperial castle above the city, with Dürer’s home at its foot, a quarter of an hour.
For orientation: Nuremberg airport is twelve minutes away by underground, which runs straight through from the main station; the trade fair is eight minutes on the U1. Munich is a good hour by ICE, Frankfurt two. The car, if brought, is parked and collected on departure.
