In 1866 the American brothers John and George Drisco opened a hotel in Jaffa's American Colony. From 1870 the Templer Ernst Hardegg ran it as the "Jerusalem Hotel", and Thomas Cook and Mark Twain were among its guests. After decades of neglect, restoration began in 2006, and in 2018 the building reopened as The Drisco Hotel Tel Aviv; the original murals can be seen again, and the Mark Twain Salon recalls the alehouse that opened here in 1925.
The Jaffa Tel Aviv · JaffaThe Setai Tel Aviv occupies the Kishle, a complex the Ottomans built in the 19th century on the remains of a Crusader fortress next to the Jaffa Clock Tower. It served as Jaffa's police station until 2005, and in 1971 the film "Ha'Shoter Azulai" was shot within its walls; after restoration the hotel opened in 2018.
The Vista at Hilton Tel Aviv · Old NorthThe Jaffa Tel Aviv has a story to tell, too: it moved into Jaffa's former French Hospital, a 19th-century neo-Renaissance building that also housed the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph. John Pawson and Rami Gil restored it over more than a decade; the chapel with its stained-glass windows was preserved, and a stretch of 13th-century Crusader wall stands inside the hotel.
The Dan Tel Aviv began in the 1930s as the small Kaete Dan guesthouse on the beach. In 1947 Yekutiel and Shmuel Federmann bought it, founded Dan Hotels and opened the new building in 1953; in 1986 the artist Yaacov Agam gave it its rainbow-colored facade. HaYarkon Street is also home to the Hilton, opened in 1965 to designs by Yaakov Rechter, whose top floors now house The Vista at Hilton Tel Aviv.
Recognized: The Forbes Travel Guide lists The Setai Tel Aviv as "Recommended", as it does The Ritz-Carlton Herzliya on the marina north of the city.
Tel Aviv stretches along the sea, from Jaffa in the south to the old port in the north. When choosing a 5-star hotel in Tel Aviv, the key question is whether you are after the beach, the old town or peace and quiet.
Sheraton Grand Tel Aviv · City CenterThe beachfront: Towers line HaYarkon Street above the sand. Here you stay at The Vista at Hilton Tel Aviv by Independence Park with direct access to Hilton Beach, at The David Kempinski Tel Aviv in the middle of the promenade between the marina and Jaffa, or at the Sheraton Grand Tel Aviv, where the beach starts just across the street.
The Ritz-Carlton Herzliya · HerzliyaNeve Tzedek: The neighborhood draws visitors with narrow lanes, boutiques, galleries and the Suzanne Dellal Center for dance. At the southern end of the promenade, a minute's walk from the neighborhood, the David InterContinental Tel Aviv looks out to sea.
Jaffa: Above the port lies the old town with its Clock Tower, flea market and lanes of pale stone. The Setai Tel Aviv stands right by the Clock Tower, and The Jaffa Tel Aviv is a short walk from the beach. On the edge of Jaffa, in the historic American Colony, you stay at The Drisco Hotel Tel Aviv, two minutes from the nearest light rail station.
At no extra cost: you pay the same rate as booking direct with the hotel – the suitespot benefits come on top, free of charge.
On the marina to the north: Things are quieter in the coastal town north of the city. The Ritz-Carlton Herzliya rises above the Arena Mall on the marina, and every room and suite has a balcony facing the marina or the sea.
From Ben Gurion Airport it takes around 35 minutes to The David Kempinski Tel Aviv, and on request the concierge arranges a VIP welcome at the airport and the transfer. The Dan Tel Aviv picks you up free of charge if you stay at least four nights in a New Executive sea-view room or two nights in a suite. Send us your flight times, and we will plan the transfer with you.

When it's loveliest: Spring and fall bring warm days and mild evenings, ideal for city and beach alike. Summer is beach season with long evenings on the promenade, and winter stays mild: the perfect time for museums, markets and a trip to Jerusalem.
How long to stay: For a 5-star hotel in Tel Aviv we recommend three to four nights. That is enough for the beach and Jaffa, the Bauhaus facades of the White City and a day trip.
