The Langham Jakarta · Kebayoran BaruFor evenings high above the city, we recommend The Langham Jakarta, with restaurants between the 61st and 63rd floors and Artesian bar on the 65th. If you want art and a big spa, stay at Raffles Jakarta, a hotel devoted to the painter Hendra Gunawan. Families head to the green south and InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah, with a children's pool and direct access to the water park next door. And if you want to wake up to Monas outside every room's window, book Park Hyatt Jakarta.High above Thamrin you stay at Pan Pacific Jakarta: since June 2024 its rooms and suites have filled floors 71 to 90 of Luminary Tower, and on the 90th floor the Japanese restaurant Keyaki, Eden bar and the club lounge share the view over the city. A little lower, but with Monas outside the window, Park Hyatt Jakarta has occupied the top 17 floors of Park Tower since July 2022; Conran and Partners designed its spaces around the layers of an Indonesian rainforest.
Pan Pacific Jakarta · Central JakartaIn December 2024, Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta reopened after several years' pause, now as part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt. The concept is unusual: every guest has breakfast, dines and drinks in The Club on the seventh floor, rooms start at 64 square meters with 3.86-meter ceilings, and Hadiprana dressed them in batik motifs. For the pool and restaurants you walk through a connecting passage to neighboring Grand Hyatt Jakarta, which has refreshed its rooms and facilities from top to bottom in recent years.
Music is the theme at The St. Regis Jakarta, opened in December 2022: in the lobby, Lasvit's kinetic chandelier “Sound of Light” moves to music by Indonesian composer Andi Rianto, and Bill Bensley set the pool in a garden full of playful artworks. At The Langham Jakarta, open since September 2021, a chandelier of 3,000 crystal butterflies greets you; up in the tower wait a heated indoor pool on the 63rd floor and Artesian bar on the 65th.
Above the rooftops: At The Langham Jakarta you swim in a heated, 16-meter sky pool on the 63rd floor, with a hot tub and reserved for hotel guests; a second pool sits amid greenery on the sixth floor. Park Hyatt Jakarta has an open-air lap pool with skyline views. At Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta, gardens surround the Sky Pool on the roof, and the Sky Pool Bar serves light bites and drinks into the evening.
Park Hyatt Jakarta · Zentral-JakartaIn a garden: Raffles Jakarta has a 25-meter lap pool in the Hendra Gunawan Garden on the 14th floor, with a leisure pool with submerged loungers beside it; at Navina Pool Bar you can book a cabana. The pool at The St. Regis Jakarta is framed by Bill Bensley's “Discovery” garden, and the pool bar stays quiet. Grand Hyatt Jakarta has a 43-meter lagoon pool among tropical plants, with a restaurant at the water's edge.
For families and long laps: InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah adds a children's pool and a water play area in the Planet Trekkers kids' zone on the eighth floor to its outdoor pool. The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Mega Kuningan has a tropical, Olympic-size outdoor pool with a whirlpool, a lifeguard and its own children's pool. At Shangri-La Jakarta, a large pool lies in a tropical garden, long enough for laps, with a pool bar and a small play area.
If the pool is what decides your 5-star hotel in Jakarta, the choice is between laps in a garden and a swim with the city lights below.
Room to unwind: At Raffles Jakarta, the Raffles Spa covers more than 2,000 square meters. It has six treatment rooms, two VIP couples' suites and a hydrotherapy area with an outdoor whirlpool and ice fountains, and the Signature Heritage Massage blends Lomi Lomi with Balinese and Javanese techniques. At The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Mega Kuningan, 19 treatment rooms are set in tropical gardens, among them four spa villas with private outdoor soaking tubs.
Raffles Jakarta · South JakartaAsian healing arts: The Chuan Spa at The Langham Jakarta follows Traditional Chinese Medicine, for example in the Chuan Stone Therapy with hot and cold stones; facials come from Biologique Recherche. At InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah, the Inaria Spa draws on Indonesian healing traditions with native fruits, herbs and roots. At Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, therapists combine Javanese massage techniques with Chinese meridian theory.
Up high: At Park Hyatt Jakarta, the spa occupies floors 34 and 35, with separate hydro-pool areas: a flotation pool on the women's side and a cold plunge on the men's side; treatments use natural ingredients such as betel leaves. The spa at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta sits on the 17th floor with skyline views and is also open with a day pass. So the spas of the luxury hotels in Jakarta reach from garden level up to the 35th floor.
At The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place, the spa lies in a garden on the eighth floor, with eight treatment rooms, a whirlpool, a sauna and a cold plunge. Try the Javanese lulur scrub, a body treatment with a long tradition.
Above the clouds: At The Langham Jakarta, Tom's by Tom Aikens on the 62nd floor stands for European cooking with British roots, with a wood-fired oven and a show kitchen. One floor down, T'ang Court, an outpost of the Cantonese restaurant from Hong Kong, serves lunch and dinner, and on the 63rd floor Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto has his Morimoto. At Pan Pacific Jakarta, Keyaki sits on the 90th floor: robatayaki, teppanyaki and sushi, omakase at night, from Japanese executive chef Kunihiro Moroi together with Kyoto chef Kazuo Takagi.
Fairmont Jakarta · Central Jakarta CityChefs with a signature: At Fairmont Jakarta, The Crown by Kirk Westaway serves tasting menus on the 22nd floor; Westaway holds two Michelin stars at JAAN in Singapore. At Gran Meliá Jakarta, Erre & Urrechu grills over hot coals to a concept by Basque chef Iñigo Urrechu. At Park Hyatt Jakarta, Victor Yuan cooks Cantonese at Li Lián, down to Peking duck roasted over rambutan wood, and on the 37th floor Kita offers robatayaki, tempura and shabu-shabu.
At no extra cost: you pay the same rate as booking direct with the hotel – the suitespot benefits come on top, free of charge.
Cantonese and Japanese: At Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, the interiors of Li Feng tell of the spice trade between China and Batavia, and the Cake Shop's show kitchen turns out cakes, scones and chocolates. At Shangri-La Jakarta, the Peking duck at JIA is carved at your table. And at InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah, a hidden door in the Sugar & Spice buffet restaurant leads to SHIO, a 22-seat teppanyaki and omakase room.
At The St. Regis Jakarta, a mural by Eddy Susanto in The St. Regis Bar tells the story of jazz in Indonesia; pair it with the Batavia Mary, made with local rice wine. At Raffles Jakarta, The Writers Bar pays homage to the original in Singapore. And at Park Hyatt Jakarta, head up to Kita Bar on the 36th floor for sunset over Monas.
For the 1962 Asian Games, Hotel Indonesia rose to plans by Danish architect Abel Sorensen with Wendy Becker; the Bundaran HI roundabout is still named after it, and the building has been a listed heritage site since 1993. After a renovation from 2004 to 2009 it reopened as Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta, with its oval Bali Room restored. Where the large garden pool once lay, the Grand Indonesia mall stands today.
Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta · MentengIn 1978, “The Mandarin” opened on Thamrin, and since 1987 the house has been called Mandarin Oriental Jakarta. From late 2007 to October 2009, Lim, Teo + Wilkes redesigned it; the interiors draw on motifs from Nias and the Batak region of Tapanuli. Grand Hyatt Jakarta stands where the Wisma Warta press lodge was built for the 1962 Asian Games; the tower above the mall opened in 1991.
Raffles Jakarta goes back to developer Ciputra, who collected the paintings of Hendra Gunawan and had promised the artist a museum. Since March 2015 Gunawan's work has lived on here: his colors and motifs shape the interiors and the sculpture garden, and the Ciputra Artpreneur arts center is right next door.
Two Michelin Keys go to The Langham Jakarta, one Key each to Park Hyatt Jakarta, Raffles Jakarta and The St. Regis Jakarta. With its Keys, the Michelin Guide rates the hotel as a whole, from architecture and service to character and location.
The St. Regis Jakarta · KuninganIn the Forbes Travel Guide, The St. Regis Jakarta holds four stars. The guide lists The Langham Jakarta and Mandarin Oriental Jakarta as “Recommended.”
Also “Recommended” are Pan Pacific Jakarta, high above Thamrin, and The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place in SCBD, a small house with 62 rooms and suites where every guest uses the club lounge. The award-winning luxury hotels in Jakarta are thus spread across Thamrin, SCBD and Kuningan.
Jakarta is sprawling, and its roads call for patience. If you want a 5-star hotel in Jakarta's city center, look at Thamrin; for meetings in the business district, Sudirman and SCBD are closer, and for the embassies, Kuningan. From Soekarno-Hatta Airport it takes around 45 minutes by car, depending on traffic.
Mandarin Oriental Jakarta · MentengDowntown, on Thamrin and in Menteng: Around the Bundaran HI roundabout lie large malls, and Monas and Istiqlal Mosque are close by. Several luxury hotels in Jakarta stand within sight of one another here. Here we recommend Park Hyatt Jakarta in Menteng with its views of Monas, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta at the Selamat Datang Monument and Grand Hyatt Jakarta right above Plaza Indonesia. Our advice for anyone new to the city.
The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place · South Jakarta CitySudirman and SCBD: The business district is an axis of office towers, malls and rooftop bars, well served by the MRT. Here we recommend The Langham Jakarta in District 8, an eight-minute walk from Senayan MRT station, and The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place, linked directly to the mall and by tunnel to Istora Mandiri station. A little farther south, by Gelora Bung Karno stadium, Fairmont Jakarta connects by tunnel to Plaza Senayan.
Kuningan: Many embassies line Jalan Rasuna Said in the Golden Triangle. Here we recommend Raffles Jakarta in Ciputra World, linked to Lotte Shopping Avenue, and The St. Regis Jakarta at Rajawali Place. Also among the embassies is The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Mega Kuningan, right next to the JW Marriott.
At no extra cost: you pay the same rate as booking direct with the hotel – the suitespot benefits come on top, free of charge.
Pondok Indah: In the green south of the city you stay at InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah, linked to a mall and an office tower and a few minutes from the golf course and water park. Our advice for families and anyone who would rather stay outside the business district.
If you travel light, take the airport rail link to BNI City station on Sudirman; the ride takes about 40 minutes. Shangri-La Jakarta is right next to the station, Pan Pacific Jakarta about 800 meters away.

Jakarta through the year: May to September is the dry season, with sunny days and evenings that belong to the rooftop terraces. November to April is the rainy season: heavy, mostly short showers pass through, the city turns green, and the luxury hotels in Jakarta play to their indoor strengths, with spas, restaurants and bars: a good time for food lovers. Whichever season you choose, the suitespot benefits at your 5-star hotel in Jakarta stay the same.
How long to stay: Two to three nights at a 5-star hotel in Jakarta are enough for Monas, the old town of Kota Tua with the historic port of Sunda Kelapa and an evening at a rooftop bar. Many guests combine the city with Bali or Yogyakarta.
