Spa areas in this selection range from 600 m² to 2,500 m². Many houses don’t publish a size at all and win you over with open-air pools, outdoor saunas or private spa rooms instead.Fairmont Windsor · Englefield GreenAmong the largest spas in this selection is the Fairmont Spa & Wellness at Fairmont Windsor: 2,500 m² with a hammam, sauna, aroma steam room, Himalayan salt room, cryotherapy chamber and dry flotation. There are 18 treatment rooms, three of them for couples, plus a 20-meter indoor pool and an outdoor vitality pool in the courtyard.

At the Old Course Golf Resort St. Andrews, the Kohler Waters Spa has a spa area of around 2,300 m² and is all about contrast therapy: thermal pool, sauna, cold plunge, a foam steam room and a new snow-and-sauna cabin you can book for up to two. It reopened in September 2025 after a five-month renovation; access is from 16, treatments from 18.

At Fairmont Cheshire The Mere, which reopened as a Fairmont in July 2026, the spa covers 1,715 m² in a restored Victorian stable block: 20-meter pool, hydropool, outdoor vitality pool, Finnish barrel sauna, ice baths, hammam and salt inhalation rooms, with Kama Ayurveda rituals on the menu. Underground, the Sisley spa at The Langley Hotel Buckinghamshire spans 1,600 m², with hammams, a juniper sauna lined with pink Himalayan salt, an amethyst steam room and a 16-meter marble pool.

The Fairmont Spa at Fairmont St Andrews covers around 840 m², with ten treatment rooms, ESPA and Hebridean seaweed brand ishga products and a 16-meter indoor pool. At Schloss Roxburghe, much of the 600 m² SCHLOSS Spa is outdoors: an infinity pool at 29 to 30 °C, a hot tub at 36 °C, a plunge pool, a larch-wood aroma sauna at 75 °C and an earth-embedded Finnish sauna at 85 °C.

No size given, but plenty of room: the spa at The Gleneagles Hotel has 18 treatment rooms and uses its own oil blends made from Perthshire botanicals, and its thermal suite includes a herbal sauna and a Himalayan salt sauna. The Grecian-inspired Utopia Spa at Alexander House Turners Hill has 25 treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, an outdoor barrel sauna and a zen garden with hot tubs.

The Cottonmill Spa at Sopwell House St Albans was built for 14 million pounds and opened in 2019, with an indoor pool and two vitality pools; its inner sanctum, The Club at Cottonmill, adds an indoor-outdoor hydrotherapy pool and a spa garden with cabanas, a fire pit and three hot tubs. Trump Turnberry Hotel Scotland has a 20-meter ocean-view pool, a hydrobath, saunas, ice fountains and cryotherapy.

At Bishopstrow Hotel, the spa happens outdoors: its spa village has a heated 14-meter pool, an 8-meter vitality pool, hot tubs, a large outdoor sauna and a cold plunge, plus yoga, sound baths and forest bathing, for guests aged 16 and over. The indoor pool is currently being refurbished (October 2026). Homewood Bath has an outdoor pool heated year-round with a hot tub and valley views, an outdoor sauna, a vitality pool and an indoor hydrotherapy pool.

Smaller, but full of character: in the House Spa at Dormy House Hotel, you swim in a 16-meter indoor infinity pool in the Bathing Room, with a Himalayan salt sauna and a snow shower. The spa at Calcot Tetbury has a fireside hot tub in a lavender-lined courtyard and a Recovery Garden with infrared saunas and cold plunges.

In Bath, the spa at The Royal Crescent Hotel Bath sits in a historic Georgian bath house, with a heated 12-meter pool, a vitality pool with massage jets, a sauna and an herbal steam room. The Bath Priory has The Garden Spa by L’Occitane, with indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna and an aroma steam room; spa access is part of the room rate for hotel guests.

When to go: spa breaks work here all year round. In summer, outdoor swimming beckons, for example in the outdoor pool at The Nare Hotel Truro, heated to 30 °C and open from May to October. In winter, the open-air hot tub becomes the highlight, followed by an evening by the fire.
