If you are looking for wellness, book The Newman London in Fitzrovia: the boutique hotel opened in February 2026 and has a Nordic wellness floor with a hydrotherapy pool and a salt room. In March 2026 came the Six Senses London, in part of the former Whiteleys department store in Bayswater, with the grand staircase beneath the glass dome reconstructed by Foster + Partners; the pool area, magnesium pool, steam room and Finnish sauna, however, are expected to remain closed until the end of 2026.

Since September 2025 you can stay on Grosvenor Square in the former US Embassy by Eero Saarinen: The Chancery Rosewood London has only suites, there are no fixed check-in and check-out times, and in the Tearoom Jacqueline, pastry chef Marius Dufay serves an afternoon tea that LA LISTE 2026 named the best in the world. The Peninsula London · Rooms & suitesIf you choose your 5-star hotel in London by what is newest, the openings of 2023 and 2024 offer three strong addresses. At Hyde Park Corner, The Peninsula London has welcomed guests since September 2023, with Claude Bosi’s restaurant Brooklands on the 8th floor. In Whitehall, Raffles London at the Owo moved in 2023 into the Old War Office, where Winston Churchill once worked. And on the south bank of the Thames, the Park Hyatt London River Thames opened in October 2024 as the first Park Hyatt in the UK, with views of Parliament and the City.
Many luxury hotels in London that have been classics for decades have reinvented themselves as well. The Dorchester Hotel London completed a four-year renovation in 2026, with rooms and suites by Pierre-Yves Rochon and the new Vesper Bar by Martin Brudnizki. Since June 2026, the rooms and suites at The Lanesborough London have a balcony or terrace, and Brown's Hotel, a Rocco Forte Hotel, London opened three new Forte Suites in September 2025.
There is news in the kitchens of the luxury hotels in London, too. Since mid-June 2026, Claridge's London has had Dante Mayfair, an offshoot of New York’s Dante, as its main restaurant, and The Langham London the Italian Sale e Pepe Mare since March 2026. At the Corinthia Hotel London, Francesco Mazzei has been cooking at Mezzogiorno since November 2025, Kerridge’s got a bar of its own, Georgie’s Bar, in September 2026, and the spa relaunched in 2026 as Biome by Corinthia London.
Two major luxury hotel openings are still to come: The St. Regis London on New Bond Street is set to open in autumn 2026 and can be booked from December 1, 2026, while Waldorf Astoria London Admiralty Arch on The Mall is taking bookings for stays from March 1, 2027. Dukes London is closed for a complete renovation and is due to reopen at the end of 2026, and at The Ritz London work continues while the hotel stays open, probably until 2028. Luxury hotels in London with a history: from the Savoy to the old War Office
The grand hotels among the luxury hotels in London tell two centuries of city history. Claridge's London dates back to 1812, when it was Mivart’s Hotel; during the Second World War the Yugoslav government in exile was based here. The Connaught London was founded in 1815 as the Prince of Saxe-Coburg Hotel and renamed after the Duke of Connaught in 1917. In 1832, James and Sarah Brown, two former domestic servants, opened the house on Dover Street that became Brown's Hotel, a Rocco Forte Hotel, London; Rudyard Kipling and Agatha Christie stayed here.
The Connaught London · MayfairRichard D’Oyly Carte built The Savoy London in 1889 with the profits from Gilbert and Sullivan’s operas; under manager César Ritz and chef Auguste Escoffier it set standards, for example with electric light throughout the building. In 1906 César Ritz opened his own hotel on Piccadilly, The Ritz London, and in 1931 came the Dorchester Hotel London on Park Lane, where General Eisenhower planned the Normandy landings during the Second World War.
Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London · BelgraviaIf you want to follow in royal footsteps at a 5-star hotel in London, book the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London: it became the Hyde Park Hotel in 1902, and its Royal Entrance on the park side is still reserved for special occasions today. In 2011 Catherine Middleton stayed at The Goring London before her wedding, and since 2013 the hotel has held a Royal Warrant. The Lanesborough London occupies a Regency building from 1825 that housed St George’s Hospital until 1980.
If you pick your 5-star hotel in London for its history, you often end up in Westminster. Raffles London at the Owo occupies the Old War Office of 1906, where Winston Churchill was Secretary of State for War from 1919 to 1921. The Corinthia Hotel London opened in 1885 as the Metropole Hotel and was later used by the Ministry of Defence until 2004, and during the Second World War, Churchill’s secret service SOE had its headquarters at St. Ermin's Hotel London.
Some luxury hotels in London had a completely different life before. In the footsteps of Oscar Wilde: at Belmond The Cadogan London, Wilde was arrested in room 118 in 1895; at the Café Royal of 1865, today the Hotel Cafe Royal London, Oscar Wilde, Winston Churchill and later David Bowie met; and NoMad London was the Bow Street court, where Wilde was charged, until 2006.

An insurer, a bank and a parking garage became luxury hotels: the Rosewood London was the headquarters of the insurer Pearl Assurance, the Sofitel London St James home to the army bank Cox & Company, and The Beaumont London was a parking garage in 1926.
