Fairmont Austin · Rainey Street Historic DistrictWhich is the best hotel for you depends on your plans, because the luxury hotels in Austin are as different as these three worlds. For food lovers we recommend the Fairmont Austin with its live-fire kitchen, spa and rooftop pool; for design close to the live-music venues, the Austin Proper Hotel in the 2nd Street District, with interiors by Kelly Wearstler.Freshly restored, The Driskill welcomes you again, the grand hotel of 1886 on the corner of Sixth and Brazos Street. Since June 2026 its 189 rooms and suites have a new look, the columned lobby with its marble floors and stained-glass dome has been restored, and at The Driskill Grill Executive Chef Nick Erven serves dry-aged steaks under the creative direction of April Bloomfield. In December 2026 the hotel celebrates its 140th birthday.
The Driskill · DowntownThe redesigned W Austin puts music at its heart: since early 2025, Austin musicians chosen by the hotel’s own Music Curator have played in the Living Room lobby bar, and Serenade brasserie looks out on the Willie Nelson statue. At the JW Marriott Austin, rooms, lobby and executive lounge were renewed in 2025. The Hyatt Regency Austin on Lady Bird Lake was renovated from top to bottom by November 2025, with the Tex-Mex restaurant Ripple & Roots and a bar about 15 meters long that runs from indoors to outdoors.
Younger addresses: among the newest luxury hotels in Austin, the slim Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin has stood since 2023 between the historic Paramount and State theatres on Congress Avenue; from Heydey Social Club on the 8th floor you look down the avenue. At The Westin Austin Downtown, Skipjack Oyster has been serving oysters from its raw bar since October 2025. On the south shore of the lake, The Loren Austin arrived in 2022, right on the hike-and-bike trail, with the new wine bar Aperí in the restored Paggi House.
In Austin, an afternoon at the pool is part of city life, and the Downtown hotels have mostly put their pools on the roof, with views of the Capitol and the skyline. If you choose your 5-star hotel in Austin by its pool, you are choosing between a rooftop deck, a heated pool for every season and an infinity pool above the Hill Country.
Austin Proper Hotel · Seaholm DistrictAbove the rooftops of Downtown: the Fairmont Austin has its seasonally heated pool on the 7th-floor deck, with private cabanas and the rooftop bar Rules & Regs. At the Austin Proper Hotel, cabanas over five meters tall line the 5th-floor pool, and La Piscina serves ceviche right at the water. At the JW Marriott Austin, the pool belongs to Edge Rooftop + Bar with views of the Capitol and Lady Bird Lake, and at The Westin Austin Downtown you swim on the 20th floor with a 180-degree view over the city.
Heated, all year: at the Hotel Saint Cecilia Austin, the heated 15-meter pool is open to guests around the clock. The Hotel Van Zandt Austin heats its 4th-floor pool deck all year, with cabanas, fire features and views of the lake. In the Campus District, The Otis Hotel Austin has the Otopia rooftop pool with views of the skyline and the Hill Country.
In the Hill Country: the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa Austin has a multi-tiered poolscape whose infinity pool overlooks the 18th hole of the Fazio Foothills course; at Mokara Spa there is an adults-only rooftop pool. The Lake Austin Resort has the Lakeside Pool by the water, the Palm Pool at the spa and an indoor lap pool, and at Miraval Austin two infinity pools with no closing hours look out over Lake Travis.
At the Austin Marriott Downtown, Zanzibar sits on the 7th floor, a tropical rooftop terrace with a pool and tiki cocktails, reached by its own elevator from the street. At the W Austin, the WET Deck with cabanas is the pool area, and if you book a spa treatment of 60 minutes or more, access is included.
The Downtown spas are made for a free afternoon. At the Fairmont Spa in the Fairmont Austin, each of the two solariums has a saline soaking pool, a eucalyptus steam grotto, a sauna and a cold plunge, all with skyline views; the spa is for guests 18 and over. Verbena Spa at the Austin Proper Hotel has a Recovery Room with cold plunge, dry sauna and red-light therapy, and at AWAY Spa in the W Austin, longer treatments include the pool on the WET Deck.
W Austin · Warehouse DistrictWellness as the reason to travel: the Lake Austin Resort is a destination spa on Lake Austin with just 40 cottages and bungalows. LakeHouse Spa offers more than 100 treatments, some in garden tents, and overnight guests use it at no extra charge. At Miraval Austin, the designer Clodagh created the Life in Balance Spa with 30 treatment rooms; it is known for Vasudhara, a treatment with underwater vibrations. Miraval Austin welcomes guests 18 and over, the Lake Austin Resort guests 16 and over.
Spa with a Hill Country view: outside Downtown, too, luxury hotels in Austin have their own spas. Mokara Spa at the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa Austin opens its rooftop pool and garden to adults only. On the south shore, Milk + Honey Spa at The Loren Austin works with natural and organic products, and hotel guests get 15 percent off all treatments.
Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide is Garrison at the Fairmont Austin: Gulf seafood, farm produce and beef from Texas ranches are cooked here over a live post oak fire. At the Austin Proper Hotel, you sit at Kappo Kappo’s intimate chef’s counter, designed by Kelly Wearstler, for a French-Japanese tasting menu with A5 wagyu. On the ground floor, The Peacock bakes its pita in a wood-burning oven and serves mezze and grilled fish.
JW Marriott Austin · DowntownSteak, Texas style: if you want steak in Texas, several luxury hotels in Austin have a steakhouse of their own. At the JW Marriott Austin, Dean’s Italian Steakhouse serves Texas and Japanese wagyu, with a raw bar and a long whiskey list. Acre 41 at The Otis Hotel Austin is a contemporary steakhouse with locally sourced meats and weekend brunch. At The Driskill Grill in The Driskill, you dine in the historic dining room, with martinis and old-world service.
Tex-Mex and Mexico: at the Hotel Van Zandt Austin, Sergio Ledesma cooks modern Mexican food with Texas ingredients at Geraldine’s, on the 4th-floor terrace with lake views and live music. Ripple & Roots at the Hyatt Regency Austin reinvents Tex-Mex, with a patio on Lady Bird Lake. On the pool deck of the Thompson Austin, the cantina Arriba Abajo serves dishes from Oaxaca, Yucatán and Tulum, with a focus on mezcal.
At no extra cost: you pay the same rate as booking direct with the hotel – the suitespot benefits come on top, free of charge.
Bars for the evening: at the W Austin, you sit in the Blue Room in midnight blue and gold, by reservation only. Behind the lobby of the Austin Proper Hotel hides Goldie’s Sunken Bar, with afternoon tea on weekends. Nido on the roof of The Loren Austin was voted best rooftop bar by readers in Best of ATX 2026.
If you want a big dinner during your stay at a 5-star hotel in Austin, plan table and room together. Garrison at the Fairmont Austin opens for dinner Tuesday to Saturday, The Driskill Grill in The Driskill every evening from 4:30 pm, with a cocktail attire dress code. The Blue Room at the W Austin always needs a reservation. Our travel advisors are happy to arrange it for you.
In 1886, cattle baron Colonel Jesse Driskill built The Driskill as the grand hotel of the Texas capital, in Romanesque Revival style. Governors held their inaugural balls here, in 1934 Lyndon B. Johnson had his first date with Lady Bird in the hotel, and later he awaited election results here. In the early 1970s a community effort saved the hotel from demolition; Hyatt has run it since 2013, and the Lyndon B. Johnson Suite recalls the president.
Hotel Saint Cecilia Austin · Travis HeightsSmall hotels with a past: if you prefer somewhere small and private, the Hotel Saint Cecilia Austin centers on an 1888 house where Leslie Crockett, a descendant of Davy Crockett, lived for more than 60 years. Hotelier Liz Lambert opened it as a hotel in 2008, named after the patron saint of music. On the south shore, The Loren Austin has restored the Paggi House, a pre-Civil War building that is among the oldest in Austin; today it shows art.
Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin · DowntownMusic history next door: two luxury hotels in Austin live door to door with famous stages. The W Austin shares Block 21 with ACL Live at the Moody Theater, home of the TV show Austin City Limits. The Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin stands between the Paramount Theatre of 1915 and the State Theatre of 1935; vintage concert posters hang in the rooms, and the nightstands look like guitar amps.
Unusual beginnings: some luxury hotels in Austin started out very differently. The Lake Austin Resort began in the late 1940s as a fishing camp on Lake Austin, was later a rodeo camp among other things, and opened in 1978 as the Bermuda Inn, a weight-loss resort. The grounds of Miraval Austin opened in 2003 as The Crossings retreat; since 2019 the resort has been the brand’s second wellness resort after Tucson.
Michelin Keys recognize hotels, not restaurants. One Michelin Key plus four stars in the Forbes Travel Guide go to two hotels in Austin: the Fairmont Austin, with spa, rooftop pool and Garrison, ranked No. 1 in Austin in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2024, and the Austin Proper Hotel, which Travel + Leisure counts among its Top 500 Hotels in the World for 2026.
Lake Austin ResortOne Key also goes to the Hotel Saint Cecilia Austin in Travis Heights, a hideaway with 20 rooms, turntables and a lounge reserved for hotel guests and club members.
More awards: the Lake Austin Resort ranks No. 1 among destination spas in the U.S. in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2025. The Loren Austin made the Travel + Leisure It List in 2023, and the Hotel Van Zandt Austin on Rainey Street holds AAA Four Diamonds.
Austin is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own beat. Ten of the 18 luxury hotels in Austin are Downtown, three south of Lady Bird Lake, two in the north and three are resorts out in the Hill Country.
The Westin Austin Downtown · DowntownCongress Avenue and Sixth Street: Congress Avenue runs from the Capitol down to the lake, and a block away Sixth Street starts its nightlife. Here we recommend the JW Marriott Austin with its rooftop pool on Congress Avenue, The Westin Austin Downtown just around the corner from Sixth Street and The Driskill, the 1886 grand hotel on the corner of Sixth and Brazos Street.
Hotel Van Zandt Austin · Rainey Street Historic DistrictRainey Street and the Convention Center: on the eastern edge of Downtown, the bars of Rainey Street sit in old wooden bungalows. The Fairmont Austin stands next to Palm Park and Waller Creek, linked to the Convention Center by a skybridge. Right on Rainey Street is the Hotel Van Zandt Austin, and across from the Convention Center the Austin Marriott Downtown, with lake and skyline views from the 7th floor up.
2nd Street District and Seaholm: in the southwest of Downtown, boutiques and restaurants line the streets and the lakeside trail is close. The Austin Proper Hotel is steps from Lady Bird Lake and Shoal Creek, the W Austin right next to ACL Live at the Moody Theater.
South of the lake: beyond the Congress Avenue Bridge begin South Congress and the residential streets of Travis Heights. The Hotel Saint Cecilia Austin sits on oak-shaded grounds just off South Congress Avenue, the Hyatt Regency Austin on the shore next to the bridge the bats call home, and The Loren Austin on the hike-and-bike trail near Zilker Park.
At no extra cost: you pay the same rate as booking direct with the hotel – the suitespot benefits come on top, free of charge.
In the north: The Otis Hotel Austin is in the Campus District, one block from the University of Texas, and the Renaissance Austin Hotel is in the Arboretum area in the northwest of the city.
Hill Country and lakes: the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa Austin lies about 14 kilometers west of Downtown on an estate with four championship golf courses, Miraval Austin in a nature preserve above Lake Travis, and the Lake Austin Resort about 32 kilometers from Downtown right on Lake Austin.
If you stay Downtown, you can walk to Sixth Street, Congress Avenue and the lakeshore. The Loren Austin has complimentary e-bikes, and the Lake Austin Resort runs its own water taxi from Walsh Landing, about 40 minutes across the lake. Miraval Austin picks up guests at the airport with a complimentary shuttle if you book 72 hours ahead. For a 5-star hotel in Austin out in the Hill Country, a rental car is still often worth it for trips to wineries and lakes.
Prices start at 173 € at the Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin on Congress Avenue and go up to 1,160 € at the Lake Austin Resort, where meals, spa, activities and gratuities are already included; half of the hotels cost no more than 289 € a night. The table shows all 18 hotels, sorted by area. You can see the current rate for your travel dates for every luxury hotel in Austin in the hotel list below.

What is included almost everywhere: at 13 hotels, breakfast for two is included daily, for example at the JW Marriott Austin or at the Austin Proper Hotel, where you can have it at The Peacock or from room service. Five hotels give a daily breakfast credit of 25 to 42 US dollars instead; at the Fairmont Austin it is 42 US dollars.
Credit and upgrade: ten hotels add a 100-US-dollar hotel credit, at the W Austin for food and drink or AWAY Spa. At the Austin Proper Hotel it is 50 US dollars, 100 for suites, and at the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa Austin 50 US dollars for the spa or golf. An upgrade is offered everywhere subject to availability; at the six World of Hyatt hotels it is confirmed at booking, though not from a room to a suite.
Thompson Austin · DowntownAll-inclusive in the Hill Country: at the Lake Austin Resort, meals, wellness classes, lake equipment and gratuities are included in the rate, plus a 100-US-dollar spa credit. At Miraval Austin, all meals, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are included, as well as a nightly resort credit.
When the benefits apply: at the Hotel Saint Cecilia Austin, the Hyatt Regency Austin and The Driskill, the suitespot benefits apply from two nights, at all other hotels from the first night.
Points and status: among the luxury hotels in Austin, Marriott Bonvoy has seven properties, from the JW Marriott Austin to the Austin Proper Hotel, and World of Hyatt six, including The Driskill; at the Fairmont Austin you earn points with ALL (Accor).
The best time to go: Austin is in season all year. In summer the rooftop pools are where the city meets, and in the cooler months you swim in heated pools such as those at the Hotel Van Zandt Austin or the Hotel Saint Cecilia Austin. For festivals such as SXSW and Austin City Limits and for the Formula 1 race at the Circuit of the Americas the city fills up, so it pays to book early.
How long to stay: for a 5-star hotel in Austin we recommend three to four nights – for Congress Avenue and the Capitol, an evening on Sixth Street and an afternoon on South Congress and Lady Bird Lake. If you want to see the Hill Country, add two nights at one of the resorts.
