Richard Blais has set up several kitchens here, from the Italian chophouse La Zozzona and the Spanish-Japanese small plates of Tiki Taka to the Mesa Centrale grill with flavors of the Southwest. New kitchen, new lounge: In June 2025 the W Scottsdale opened Sexy Roman, where Jason Franey serves handmade pasta and a raw bar in rooms styled like an Italian villa. A piece of the jet-set era: The Hotel Valley Ho is the work of architect Edward L. Varney. It opened in 1956 and became a refuge for Hollywood stars; from 1973 it went by the name Ramada Valley Ho, and decades later it was threatened with demolition. A restoration costing 80 million US dollars saved the building. It reopened in December 2005, and the seven-story tower that Varney had already sketched in his plans was added at the same time.
From tennis club to hideaway: Where the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale now sits on the mountain, people played tennis at the Paradise Valley Racquet Club in the 1950s; in the 1960s it became the John Gardiner Tennis Ranch. Today's resort grew out of it, and since 2021 it has belonged to Gurney's Resorts.
