Your guide to the best luxury hotels in Phoenix

Phoenix is more than one city: in the Valley of the Sun, the metropolis, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley flow into one another, with Camelback Mountain rising in between. Mornings you hike among saguaro cacti, at midday the pool waits under the palms, and in the evening the rock glows in the last light. If you are looking for a 5-star hotel in Phoenix, start by choosing the setting: downtown with its ballpark and arena, the slopes of Camelback with their villas and resorts, or the golf courses of north Scottsdale. Many luxury hotels in Phoenix are sprawling resorts with several pools and a spa of their own.Royal Palms Resort PhoenixRoyal Palms Resort Phoenix · Camelback EastFor couples we recommend the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix, a Spanish-style winter estate from the 1920s with one Michelin Key, or the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale, whose infinity pool looks out from the mountainside over Paradise Valley. Food lovers stay at The Global Ambassador Phoenix, restaurateur Sam Fox's hotel with a rooftop restaurant.

Among the best hotels in Phoenix and Scottsdale, families find their match at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, with a sandy beach and two long waterslides. Golfers stay at the Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale with its own 18-hole par-3 course, design fans at the Hotel Valley Ho, a 1956 modernist classic within walking distance of Old Town Scottsdale.

At no extra cost: booking through suitespot costs the same as booking direct with the hotel – the benefits come on top, free of charge.

Newly opened and freshly renovated: what the luxury hotels in Phoenix offer you today

New on Camelback Road: At The Global Ambassador Phoenix you stay in a hotel built by a restaurateur. Sam Fox has created five food and drink concepts of his own here, including the rooftop restaurant théa with views of Camelback Mountain; the spa works with Augustinus Bader skincare, and the fitness area offers Forma Pilates classes. The hotel opened in December 2023. At the foot of the mountain, The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician has offered eight freestanding villas with two to four bedrooms since February 2026, with their own pool complex and cabanas. The Global Ambassador PhoenixThe Global Ambassador Phoenix · BiltmoreFully renewed in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley: After a 115 million US dollar renovation, the former Hyatt Regency at Gainey Ranch has become the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort, with new rooms and casitas, a redesigned pool landscape and restaurants by Richard Blais. At the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort, the spa reopened in February 2026 after a 25 million US dollar transformation: inside with a salt sauna, a steam cavern and cold plunges, outside with the Wellness Waters pools and Ora Cafe.

New kitchens and fresh rooms: At the W Scottsdale, Jason Franey has been cooking Italian with handmade pasta at Sexy Roman since June 2025, and the Living Room lobby lounge was redesigned in September 2026. The Camby Phoenix renovated all of its rooms in 2024 and opened Yellowbell, a restaurant devoted to Southwestern cooking. At the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort, an 80 million US dollar transformation has refreshed every room, and new slides await at the AquaRidge water park.

These luxury hotels in Phoenix have a pool – with sandy beaches, waterslides and mountain views

In Phoenix the pool is part of the day the way a café is elsewhere: between the resorts lie water parks, sandy beaches and quiet pools with mountain views. If you book a 5-star hotel in Phoenix with children, look for slides and zero-entry areas; couples tend to look for adults-only retreats.JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge ResortJW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort · Desert ViewFor families: At the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort, the AquaRidge water park has the Canyon Creek lazy river and three slides; at night a waterfall at the Wildfire pool glows in firelight. The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess has six heated pools, including Sunset Beach with sand from Florida and the Sonoran Splash with two 200-foot slides. At the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort, ten pools, a sand beach and a three-story waterslide spread across a water playground of about 2.5 acres.

Calm with a view: The infinity pool at the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale looks out over Paradise Valley; from Friday to Sunday it is reserved for guests 16 and over, while families use two other pools. At The Phoenician Scottsdale, the Mother-of-Pearl pool lies on the lower level of the pool complex, its floor laid with mother-of-pearl tiles from Italy; up top waits a 197-foot slide. Guests of The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician also have their own infinity pool, open around the clock.

History and scene: The Arizona Biltmore Phoenix has seven pools, heated in winter and cooled to 82–84 °F in summer; the historic Catalina Pool is said to have been Marilyn Monroe's favorite. At the OH Pool of the Hotel Valley Ho a DJ spins, while the OHasis Pool under the palms is quieter. The W Scottsdale keeps its 21+ WET Deck above the porte cochère, chilled in summer and with pool parties on weekends.

Above the rooftops: City hotels among the luxury hotels in Phoenix have pools too. Downtown, the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix has its pool on a third-floor roof terrace, with cabanas and the Eden Rooftop Bar. The Camby Phoenix has a rooftop pool with views of the mountains and the sunset, served Thursday through Sunday by the Wade Poolside Bar.

Spa & wellness at the luxury hotels in Phoenix: desert botanicals, salt rooms and waterfall showers

Big spas with rooftop pools: The Well & Being Spa at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess is inspired by Havasupai in the Grand Canyon, with a waterfall grotto, a rooftop pool and a Sisley-Paris Spa; access from age 18. At The Phoenician Scottsdale, the spa spreads over three floors with 24 treatment rooms, a couples suite and a rooftop pool for spa guests only.Fairmont Scottsdale PrincessFairmont Scottsdale PrincessQuiet on the mountain: At the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale, the spa has twelve indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, a Zen meditation garden and a reflection pond; the signature treatments are Asian-inspired. The Alvadora Spa at the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix works with Vichy showers and botanical ingredients, there are outdoor waterfall showers, and on weekends there is complimentary yoga in the Alegria Garden.

At no extra cost: you pay the same rate as booking direct with the hotel – the suitespot benefits come on top, free of charge.

Herbs and traditions of the desert: Several luxury hotels in Phoenix bring the desert into the spa. Aji Spa at the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass bases its treatments on the healing traditions of the Pima and Maricopa. At the Palo Verde Spa & Apothecary of the Andaz Scottsdale Resort you blend your own essential oil, then head to the eucalyptus steam room and the hydrotherapy pools. At the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort, Spa Avania has 19 treatment rooms and a Himalayan salt room.

Credit for the spa

At the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess you can use the 100 US dollar hotel credit for dinner or at the spa. Our travel advisors are happy to book your treatment before you arrive.

Dining at the luxury hotels in Phoenix: steakhouses, rooftop terraces and Sonoran Desert cooking

Steaks from big names: At The Phoenician Scottsdale, Jacques Qualin has led Jean-Georges Vongerichten's J&G Steakhouse since it opened in 2009, with a sunset patio. At the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak serves prime cuts and seafood with a 3,000-bottle wine list, and in the same resort Richard Sandoval cooks modern Mexican at La Hacienda. The Phoenician ScottsdaleThe Phoenician Scottsdale · ScottsdaleRegional cooking: If you want to taste the Southwest at a 5-star hotel in Phoenix, you don't need to head into town. At the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass, Kai reinterprets Native American cuisine with heritage grains, beans and squash; Kai means “seed” in the Pima language. Angelo Sosa cooks over a wood fire at Tia Carmen in the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort, and at Yellowbell in The Camby Phoenix, local ingredients and agave spirits take center stage.

Mediterranean with mountain views: On the roof of The Global Ambassador Phoenix, théa serves mezze and house-made pasta, with a DJ on Friday and Saturday evenings; downstairs, Le Âme is a bistro by day and a Parisian steakhouse by night. At the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix you dine at T. Cook's beneath vaulted ceilings or on two patios with fireplaces, where Lee Hillson cooks Mediterranean food with Northern Italian, Greek and Spanish influences. Hearth '61 at the Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale carries the year Paradise Valley was founded in its name.

Bars and tea: The luxury hotels in Phoenix are worth an evening at the bar, too. According to the resort, the Tequila Sunrise was invented at the Wright Bar of the Arizona Biltmore Phoenix in the 1930s; outside, the Spire Bar sits beneath a canopy inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. Afternoon tea with live piano is served Friday through Sunday at The Phoenician Scottsdale. At the Jade Bar of the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale, sushi is served from 3 pm behind floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Paradise Valley.

A table next to the kitchen

For small celebrations, our travel advisors can reserve Table XII at the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale, a private room right next to the open kitchen. You choose from the Elements menu or a menu of your own – just tell us the occasion.

Luxury hotels in Phoenix with history: winter estates, adobe bricks and Hollywood stars

The Biltmore of 1929: The Arizona Biltmore Phoenix was designed by Albert Chase McArthur; in 1928 Frank Lloyd Wright spent four months on site advising him on the textile block system now known as the “Biltmore Block.” In 1930 chewing-gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. became sole owner. After a major fire in 1973 the hotel was rebuilt within 90 days. Guests have included Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra, and Ronald and Nancy Reagan honeymooned here in 1952.Arizona Biltmore PhoenixArizona Biltmore Phoenix · Biltmore GreensA Spanish-style winter estate: New York financier Delos Willard Cooke built the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix between 1926 and 1929 as his winter residence, and in 1948 it opened as the Royal Palms Inn. The courtyard has 24 tiled arches, some 900 palms grow on the grounds, and a 250-year-old fountain comes from Guanajuato, Mexico. After an extensive restoration the hotel reopened in 1997, together with the restaurant T. Cook's.JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn ResortJW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort · Paradise ValleyCasitas of adobe brick: Sportswriter Jack Stewart opened the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort in 1936 as Camelback Inn, with pueblo-style casitas of adobe bricks formed on site; the money came from industrialist John C. Lincoln. The motto was “Where Time Stands Still.” Marriott bought the resort in 1968, and to this day every guest stays in a freestanding casita.

Hollywood in the desert: Edward L. Varney designed the Hotel Valley Ho, which opened in 1956 and became a hideaway for Hollywood stars. It later ran as a Ramada, escaped demolition and reopened in 2005 after an 80 million US dollar restoration, complete with the tower Varney had already planned. The Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale first opened in 1959 between Camelback and Mummy Mountain, with visits from Bob Hope and Lucille Ball; after closing in 2004 and being demolished in 2014, it was rebuilt and has welcomed guests again since 2017.

Marble and a phoenix: Charles Keating fitted out The Phoenician Scottsdale with Carrara marble, a gold-etched lobby ceiling and eleven Steinway pianos; the resort opened in 1988, and the historic Jokake Inn of 1926 stands on its grounds. The site of the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel held the Hotel Adams as early as 1896; today's tower dates from 1975, and its lobby tells the story of the phoenix rising from the ashes.

Award-winning luxury hotels in Phoenix: Michelin Keys and Forbes Travel Guide

One Michelin Key each goes to the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix, The Global Ambassador Phoenix and the Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale. The Keys rate the hotel as a whole, not a restaurant: the Spanish winter estate of the 1920s as much as Sam Fox's restaurateur hotel and the rebuilt resort with its par-3 course. Two of these three luxury hotels in Phoenix are on Camelback Road.Mountain Shadows Resort ScottsdaleMountain Shadows Resort ScottsdaleIn the Forbes Travel Guide, The Global Ambassador Phoenix holds four stars. The guide lists the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix, the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort and the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass as “Recommended.” Forbes stars, by the way, are a rating of their own and not the same as the official 5-star hotel category.

Where to stay in Phoenix: downtown, Camelback Road, Paradise Valley or Scottsdale – the right location for your 5-star hotel

Phoenix, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley are separate towns, yet they merge seamlessly. That is why the luxury hotels in Phoenix are spread across the whole Valley: city hotels downtown, classic resorts on Camelback Road and on the mountain, golf resorts in the north. For a 5-star hotel in Phoenix, that means choosing the location first and the hotel second.Renaissance Phoenix Downtown HotelRenaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel · DowntownCity center: Between the convention center, the ballpark and the arena, you stay at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel on Adams Street, steps from the Phoenix Convention Center, or at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix in the CityScape complex, right across from the arena. The Sheraton Phoenix Downtown stands next to the convention center, its curved roofline tracing the shape of Camelback Mountain. The Camby PhoenixThe Camby Phoenix · Camelback EastCamelback Road and Arcadia: At the foot of Camelback Mountain, the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix sits in the Arcadia neighborhood, halfway to Scottsdale. Also on Camelback Road is The Global Ambassador Phoenix, right where three towns meet.

Biltmore: The Arizona Biltmore Phoenix lies at the edge of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve in the Biltmore district, with two golf courses on its doorstep. The Camby Phoenix stands on Camelback Road near the shops and restaurants of the Camelback Corridor.

Paradise Valley: In the town between Camelback and Mummy Mountain, you stay at the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale high on the north slope, at the Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale with views of both mountains or at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort on the south slope of Mummy Mountain. All three carry Scottsdale in their names but lie in Paradise Valley.

At the foot of Camelback Mountain: The Phoenician Scottsdale sits on sprawling grounds below the mountain, with its own golf course. On the same grounds, The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician forms a small resort of 60 units with its own lounge and access to all the facilities of the main resort.

Old Town: From the Hotel Valley Ho you can walk to the restaurants, boutiques and galleries of the old town. The W Scottsdale is on East Camelback Road in the heart of the entertainment district, near the Fashion Square mall. A little farther out, already in Paradise Valley, the Andaz Scottsdale Resort offers bungalows in a desert garden with Camelback Mountain as a backdrop.

Golf and desert in the north: The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess borders the TPC Scottsdale golf course, near the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort is in Gainey Ranch with views of the McDowell Mountains, and The Westin Kierland Resort Scottsdale sits between the Kierland Golf Club and the Kierland Commons shopping and dining district, on the Phoenix side of the city line.

Far north and far south: In the north of the city, the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort lies in the Sonoran Desert near two shopping and dining districts, with two golf courses and 17 lighted pickleball courts. In the south, on the land of the Gila River Indian Community near Chandler, the Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass looks out to the Sierra Estrella; a 2.5-mile river winds around the resort for kayak and boat trips.

Our travel advisors' insider tip

TPC Scottsdale, right next to the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, hosts the WM Phoenix Open every year in early February. If you want to come for the tournament, book early – our travel advisors are happy to secure you a room right on the course in good time.

The best time to go: A 5-star hotel in Phoenix is worth it in every season. From winter to spring the days are mild, ideal for golf and hikes on Camelback Mountain; February brings the WM Phoenix Open, March baseball's Spring Training. Summer belongs to the pools and spas, early mornings to the trails, and at the W Scottsdale and the Arizona Biltmore Phoenix the pools are even cooled. In fall you sit outside again long into the evening.

How long to stay: If you are booking a 5-star hotel in Phoenix for the first time, plan four nights: two on Camelback Road or in Old Town Scottsdale for restaurants and galleries, two at a resort with pool, spa and golf. For a weekend, it is better to stay in one place.
