Royal Palms Resort Phoenix · Camelback EastFor a romantic weekend we recommend the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix: a courtyard with tiled arches, some 900 palms and villas with fireplaces. Food lovers stay at The Global Ambassador Phoenix, where restaurants and bars are the heart of the hotel, from the rooftop restaurant with mountain views to the Parisian bistro.Wellness at a classic: Since February 2026, the redesigned spa at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort has offered a full circuit: inside, a Himalayan salt sauna, an aromatherapy steam grotto, cold plunges and infrared loungers; outside, a pool, a saltwater pool and a plunge pool for cooling off. The spa's Ora Cafe serves dishes with vegetables from the resort's own JW Garden, plus juices and smoothies.
JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort · Paradise ValleyVillas and a young hotel: Since February 2026, families and groups of friends at The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician can also stay in eight standalone villas, each with between two and four bedrooms, plus a pool area of their own with cabanas and service. The Global Ambassador Phoenix has welcomed guests since December 2023: restaurateur Sam Fox has fitted its rooms with a private bar stocked with full-size bottles, and if you want to work out, there are Pilates classes by Forma.
Refreshed for families and night owls: By the end of 2024, every room at the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort had been renewed, including 18 casitas and the two-story Gainey House; the pool landscape, cabanas and Spa Avania were refreshed too. At the W Scottsdale, the redesigned Living Room lobby lounge opened in September 2026, with cocktails, small plates by Jason Franey from 4 pm and concerts Thursday through Saturday.
Here the pool is both meeting point and viewing platform; from many loungers you look straight at Camelback Mountain. If you are traveling with children and want a 5-star hotel in Paradise Valley or just outside the town, look for slides and kids' areas, while those traveling as a couple care more about adults-only pools.
The Phoenician Scottsdale · ScottsdaleFor families: At The Phoenician Scottsdale, the pool complex spreads over several levels. The upper one has a winding slide of 197 feet, while the Mother-of-Pearl Pool lies calmly on the lower one; kids also romp in the Kids Zone with its pirate treehouse and water playground. Guests of The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician share all of this and also have an infinity pool of their own, open 24 hours a day, with private cabanas that include a bathroom.
For peace and quiet: If above all you want to unwind at your 5-star hotel in Paradise Valley, choose one with an adults-only pool. At the western end of the Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale lies the Sunset Pool, for adults only and with Camelback Mountain right in view; at the Citizens Club, two 75-foot pools are heated to about 82 °F. At the infinity pool of the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale you sit high above the valley, on weekends among guests 16 and older.
Small and exclusive: Two of the more intimate luxury hotels around Paradise Valley sit on Camelback Road. Guests can use the palm-lined pool of the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix around the clock, with a hot tub, cabanas and daybeds. At The Global Ambassador Phoenix, the pool is reserved for hotel, spa and club guests, and the Pink Dolphin serves ceviche and margaritas alongside.
Large wellness complexes: The spa at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort arranges its treatments along four ariVea “Pathways to Well-Being”; its 20 treatment rooms include three double suites, and a Vitality Pool holds 18 people. At The Phoenician Scottsdale, three floors of spa hold 24 treatment rooms, a Drybar salon and a nail lounge; treatments are available from age 18, and the rooftop pool is reserved for spa guests alone.
Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale · Paradise ValleyWater and stillness: The treatments at the Alvadora Spa of the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix are inspired by the Mediterranean, with Vichy showers among them. Couples book the hot stone massage for two, then rest indoors or outside by the fireplace. At the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale, the spa includes a Zen garden, a reflecting pond and a relaxation room, and Oxylight facials sit alongside classics such as the Masami Facial.
Care with a big name: Smaller luxury hotels in Paradise Valley also put their own stamp on the spa. At the spa of The Global Ambassador Phoenix, therapists work with products by Augustinus Bader. The Structural Longevity Massage combines massage and infrared heat, and the locker rooms have a sauna, a hot tub and cold plunges.
At the spa of the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort you can reserve The Villa, a private suite with its own pool. Our travel advisors will happily request it for you before your arrival.
Steakhouse evenings: Jean-Georges Vongerichten is behind J&G Steakhouse at The Phoenician Scottsdale, where select meats and fish reach the plate with Asian and American flavors. Modern steakhouse fare for sharing and craft cocktails are on offer at Lincoln Steakhouse & Bar in the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort. The wine list at Le Âme in The Global Ambassador Phoenix was curated by a Master Sommelier, alongside classics such as steak frites.
The Global Ambassador Phoenix · BiltmoreMountain views and local produce: For a big night out, nobody at a 5-star hotel in Paradise Valley needs to leave the resort. The terraces at T. Cook's in the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix have fireplaces and look out on Camelback Mountain; the menu follows the seasons of the Mediterranean, at brunch too. At Hearth '61 in the Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale, chef de cuisine Yulissa Acosta cooks simple dishes from regional organic ingredients, with the open kitchen as part of the room.
At no extra cost: you pay the same rate as booking direct with the hotel – the suitespot benefits come on top, free of charge.
Bars with character: At the Mix Up lounge of the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix, herbs from the garden end up in your glass, and the ginger beer is made in-house. The Thirsty Camel Bar at The Phoenician Scottsdale looks out over the resort and the valley and focuses on tequila and agave. In the Lobby Bar at The Global Ambassador Phoenix, jazz trios play on weekends.
On the terrace of J&G Steakhouse at The Phoenician Scottsdale, evenings come with a view of the setting sun. Just ask, and our travel advisors will book you a table outside.
Where time stands still: With this promise, Jack Stewart lured guests to his Camelback Inn starting in 1936. The sportswriter had the adobe bricks for the casitas formed right on the grounds, with financing from John C. Lincoln, an industrialist. Marriott took over in 1968, the hotel has been called the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort since 2003, and every guest still sleeps in a casita of their own.
Mountain Shadows Resort ScottsdaleA winter home called El Vernadero: That was the name Delos Willard Cooke, a New York financier, gave to the Spanish-style villa he had built at the foot of Camelback in the late 1920s. Guests have stayed here since 1948, at first at the Royal Palms Inn. Fred and Jennifer Unger restored the estate and reopened it in 1997; in 2016 Hyatt took over the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix for The Unbound Collection.
The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician · ScottsdaleHollywood at Mummy Mountain: When the original Mountain Shadows opened on January 16, 1959, to plans by Martin Stern Jr., stars such as Bob Hope and Lucille Ball came. The resort closed in 2004 and was torn down in 2014. Today's Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale is a new building from 2017 that picks up the design language of those years; its restaurant Hearth '61 recalls the year Paradise Valley was founded.
Marble and Steinway: Charles Keating bought the land at the foot of Camelback Mountain in 1985. The Phoenician Scottsdale opened in 1988, fitted with eleven Steinway pianos, Carrara marble and a lobby ceiling decorated with gold; the Jokake Inn of 1926 still stands on the grounds. Where The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician now sits was once the Elizabeth Arden Maine Chance Day Spa; the building from 1996 became the small resort within the resort in 2007.
Three hotels with one Michelin Key: The Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale in the town itself holds one Key, as do the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix and The Global Ambassador Phoenix on Camelback Road. The Key rates the entire stay, not the kitchen of one restaurant.
In the Forbes Travel Guide ratings, The Global Ambassador Phoenix carries four stars, while the Royal Palms Resort Phoenix appears as “Recommended.” These stars follow the guide's own criteria and are not an official hotel category.
Paradise Valley itself is small, and its resorts sit on the slopes of the two mountains. At the edges, the towns merge: south of Camelback Mountain, Phoenix and Scottsdale begin, and to the east Old Town is not far away. Among the luxury hotels in Paradise Valley and the surrounding area, the setting is therefore the deciding factor: mountainside, city street or old town. When choosing a 5-star hotel in Paradise Valley, location comes first.
Andaz Scottsdale Resort · Paradise ValleyWithin the town: Four hotels in our selection actually lie within the town limits; if you are after luxury hotels in Paradise Valley in the strict sense, this is where you stay. The Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort Scottsdale nestles against the north slope of Camelback, with a view across the valley. The Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale with its golf course lies between Camelback and Mummy Mountain, and the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort spreads across the south slope of Mummy Mountain.
W ScottsdaleBelow Camelback Mountain: The Phoenician Scottsdale and The Canyon Suites at The Phoenician share sprawling grounds just beyond the town line, with a golf course, a large spa and several restaurants.
On Camelback Road: The Royal Palms Resort Phoenix lies in the Arcadia neighborhood, on about nine acres at the base of the mountain. The Global Ambassador Phoenix stands where the borders of three towns touch, with views of Camelback Mountain from the roof.
At no extra cost: you pay the same rate as booking direct with the hotel – the suitespot benefits come on top, free of charge.
Toward Old Town and the north: The Andaz Scottsdale Resort is still in Paradise Valley, just a few minutes from Old Town, with bungalows set in desert gardens. The W Scottsdale stands in the middle of the nightlife district on East Camelback Road, and farther north the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort in Gainey Ranch looks out to the McDowell Mountains.
No rental car? The Andaz Scottsdale Resort will drive you free of charge in its own shuttle to places within about 5 miles. Our travel advisors can tell you which restaurants and galleries are easy to reach that way.

Summer is for long afternoons by the pool, spa appointments and dinners under the open sky, and in fall the golfers return. A 5-star hotel in Paradise Valley offers enough for a few carefree days in every season.
How many nights: Three to four nights are enough for spa, pool and a morning hike. If you want to play golf and get to know the restaurants on Camelback Road, plan a week and perhaps switch from the mountainside to the city halfway through.
