In Cannes, 2023 was a year of fresh starts. After two and a half years of renovation, the Regent Carlton Cannes reopened in March 2023, now as a Regent: Tristan Auer redesigned the lobby, rooms and salons, while the Belle Époque facade was preserved. Behind the building, two new wings with 37 residences frame a garden with an infinity pool, and there’s also the spa at the C Club, with La Prairie treatments, and Rüya, a modern Anatolian restaurant.
Mondrian Cannes · La LepreAlso in March 2023, the former Grand Hôtel became the Mondrian Cannes, the first Mondrian in France, with its beach club, Hyde Beach, and Mr. Nakamoto, an Asian restaurant. Swiss hotelier Henry Ruhl had it built by Charles Dalmas and Marcellin Mayère and opened it in 1911; its two domes are familiar from festival photos to this day. Alfred Hitchcock shot scenes for “To Catch a Thief” (1955) with Grace Kelly here, and today suites pay tribute to the two of them.
