Taken together: 155 against 18 – more than eight times over, across exactly two addresses. And the reason is structural. One is a tower whose top floor is a bar; the other is four adjoining townhouses of three storeys.
Our advice: decide the hotel first, then the category. If you want to stay below 39 square metres, there is exactly one address; if you want to go above it, likewise. Ljubljana has no step in between, and that is not a gap – they are two very different ideas of how to live in this city.
Where to stay in Ljubljana: Center or Mirje
The two best hotels in Ljubljana stand in two districts, and they are less than twenty minutes apart on foot.
The Vander Urbani Resort stands in Mirje, at the edge of the old town, in a zone closed to cars. The Ljubljanica runs past the door, and the bridges put Prešeren Square a few minutes away.

What is within reach: the castle, which a funicular reaches in a minute; Tivoli Park, which meets the inner city in the west; and the central market under Plečnik's arcades, where the farmers from the surrounding country stand on Saturdays.
For orientation: Lake Bled lies barely an hour northwest by car, the Adriatic at Piran a good hour and a half southwest. Ljubljana is a capital from which you can reach mountains and sea on the same day.
