Two of the six hotels stand in the village – the Hotel Byblos Saint-Tropez and the AREV St. Tropez. From there you walk to the harbour, to the market on the Place des Lices and, in the evening, to any restaurant.
The other four lie outside: the Hotel Sezz Saint-Tropez and the Althoff Hotel Villa Belrose Saint-Tropez on the road towards Pampelonne, the COMO Le Beauvallon Grimaud across the gulf and the Ultimate Provence Hotel among the vineyards – the quietest of them, and by far the cheapest.
Why that weighs more here than elsewhere: the approach to Saint-Tropez is a single road, and in July and August it stands still. From the village that does not matter. From outside, every run in and back costs time – in return you get quiet, space and, in the case of the Ultimate Provence Hotel, a price that has nothing to do with the rest of this list.
Our advice: decide on your days first, then on the hotel. If you want to eat in the village in the evening, stay in the village. If you spend the day on the beach at Pampelonne or by the pool, you are better off outside – and drive in once.
