Our recommendation for a first visit: from the square it is a few minutes to Notre-Dame cathedral and to the Chemin de la Corniche, the path above the Alzette that is called the most beautiful balcony in Europe for good reason. Below lies Grund, the old quarter on the river – down by steps, up by lift.
The Upper Town works on foot. The Bock with its casemates, the Grand Ducal Palace, the museums: all within ten minutes.
Findel airport is about six kilometres east. Public transport across the whole country is free, which is another Luxembourg peculiarity.

The old town sits on top, the old quarters lie below by the water, and between them stand walls, casemates and bridges. The Chemin de la Corniche runs along exactly that edge. The fortifications and the old town are on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The second is the food. Luxembourg has a striking number of starred restaurants for its size, and one of them, La Cristallerie, is in this hotel. Add the position on the Place d’Armes: in summer the square is one continuous terrace.
The third is what surrounds the city. The Moselle and its wine villages are half an hour east, the castle country of the Mullerthal north-east, and the German, French and Belgian borders are all within the hour.
