One 5-star hotel in Adelboden, chosen by our travel experts: The Cambrian. Your suitespot booking includes breakfast for two, a room upgrade subject to availability, hotel credit and VIP service – over €500 in value.
The Cambrian Adelboden · CenterFor this guide we reviewed the best hotels in Adelboden and chose one: a luxury hotel in the middle of the village whose package holds two rare extras. What that means for booking is below. Our choice for Adelboden is The Cambrian on Dorfstrasse, in the middle of the village. In our ranking it stands at 4.5 out of 5, a night starts at 274 euros, and it belongs to Marriott Bonvoy.
Why we recommend it: Because it holds 72 rooms and suites, is a member of Design Hotels and has a heated outdoor pool, plus an indoor pool, two saunas and a steam room. The cooking is at the restaurant Bryn Williams – the hotel has a Welsh-Swiss signature, and the name follows from it: Cambrian is the Latin word for Wales. The lift to the Tschentenalp is 400 metres away. Our recommended category is called Deluxe double room.
A “voucher” that is a rental – and champagne that applies only to suites.
Two of this hotel’s benefits are unusual, and both are worth a closer look.
First the rental: free snowshoe rental in winter and free mountain bike rental in summer. It is equipment rather than an amount of money. Few hotels offer a benefit of that kind.
Second the champagne. A bottle of champagne is included – expressly for suites. That is less restrictive here than it sounds, because six of this hotel’s eight categories are suites. That, too, is a rare extra.
And the choice itself is compact: eight categories, six of them suites. Our travel advisors confirm the exact size before you book.
On the view: four categories are called North or South – that is a compass direction; our travel advisors will tell you what each one looks out on.
Our recommended category, the Deluxe double room, comes in both variants, North and South.
Our advice: ask about the aspect and the area. Both decide.
The Cambrian stands on Dorfstrasse in Adelboden – 400 metres from the lift to the Tschentenalp, three kilometres from the Sillerenbühl and the Engstligen falls, twelve from Frutigen, 32 from Interlaken and 131 from Zurich airport.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone who wants to manage without a car in winter – and for those who walk in summer and step into a heated pool with a mountain outlook in the evening.
What lies within reach: the Tschentenalp, 400 metres to the base station, with a sunny slope above the village; the Sillerenbühl, three kilometres, part of the Adelboden-Lenk ski area; and the Engstligen falls, three kilometres, dropping some 600 metres in two stages – among the highest in Switzerland.
On arrival: Frutigen is twelve kilometres away and has the railway; from there the post bus runs into the valley. Zurich airport is 131 kilometres away, Interlaken 32.
The Cambrian lists eight categories, six of them suites.
The rooms: Deluxe North and Deluxe South. One of the two is our recommended category – which one, our travel advisors will clarify with you.
The suites: Suite North, Suite South, Cambrian Suite, Family Suite, Presidential Suite and Adelboden Suite.
Area and view are settled by our travel advisors before booking. North and South here give a compass direction, not a view.
What applies equally to every category: breakfast for two, the free rental of snowshoes in winter and mountain bikes in summer, the upgrade on arrival subject to availability, regular points and status benefits with Marriott Bonvoy and early check-in and late check-out subject to availability. For the six suites there is a bottle of champagne as well.
A night at the luxury hotel in Adelboden starts at 274 euros. That is an entry in the mid-price range.
Bookings start at one night. Included are: breakfast for two, the rental of snowshoes or mountain bikes, the upgrade on arrival, regular points and status benefits and early check-in and late check-out – and for suites a bottle of champagne.
When it is loveliest: in winter from December to April, in summer from June to October, when the paths to the Engstligen falls are clear.
What belongs to Adelboden: the World Cup. On the second January weekend the race on the Chuenisbärgli fills the valley – anyone coming then comes for the race.
When to ask early: for the World Cup in January, at Christmas and in the February holidays.
How long to stay: five to seven nights in winter, three to four in summer.
And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in the quietest week of the year just as you do in the busiest.
Adelboden has around 3,300 inhabitants and was a farming village at the end of the valley until the 19th century. Tourism came with the English, and the hotel’s name recalls it: Cambrian is the Latin name for Wales.
