Our recommended category is called Luxury Eiger View. It comes at 27 and at 27 to 32 square metres. Same name, same view, five square metres apart. Anyone booking “the Luxury with Eiger view” has the face for certain, but not yet the size.
Then the rule: this hotel has a minimum stay of two nights. Here it is the plan: one day for the Jungfraujoch, one for First and the Bachalpsee.
And the price: 282 euros – an entry point in the mid-price range. For a room facing the north face, that is the real news.
Our advice: Book the larger Luxury with Eiger view – up to 32, not 27 square metres. The upgrade on arrival leads from there into the corner room at 31 or the Bergwelt Suite at 48, both with the face. Anyone wanting space takes the Luxury Room at 56 square metres. Where to stay in Grindelwald: by the First cable car, facing the Eiger north face
The Bergwelt Grindelwald - Alpine Design Resort lies by the First cable car at the upper edge of Grindelwald – three hundred metres from the valley station, four hundred from the railway station and fifteen kilometres from Interlaken.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone taking Grindelwald as a mountain base: the railway in the morning, the spa in the evening, the Eiger in between – and for skiers who want to go from the door onto the piste in winter.
What lies within reach: the First cable car with the Cliff Walk and the Bachalpsee, in which the Schreckhorn and Wetterhorn are reflected, three minutes; the Eiger Express from the terminal, which reaches Eigergletscher station in fifteen minutes and continues to the Jungfraujoch; and the Glacier Gorge, the cut of the lower Grindelwald glacier, half an hour on foot.
For orientation: Interlaken is half an hour by the Bernese Oberland Railway, Bern an hour and a half, Zurich airport just under three. A car is not needed; the railways are the reason to be here.
