Andermatt is a village, not a place with quarters – and still the two hotels stand differently.
By the station is The Chedi Andermatt. That sounds more prosaic than it is: the Glacier Express stops in Andermatt, and the station is where the trains over the Oberalp pass towards Graubünden leave from. Our recommendation for anyone arriving without a car – and for anyone who wants short walks in the evening.
On the Reuss, in the Reussen quarter, is the Radisson Blu Reussen – the less expensive of the two and the one with the Residence Mountain View at 132 square metres. Our recommendation for longer stays and for anyone who needs space.
For orientation: Andermatt lies in the Urseren valley, at the northern portal of the Gotthard. North the Schöllenen gorge drops away, where the Devil’s Bridge crosses the Reuss; west the Furka leads into the Valais, east the Oberalp into Graubünden. In summer that is three pass roads in a day; in winter it is a ski area reaching as far as Sedrun.

When it is loveliest: from January to March for the snow and from July to September for the passes. Andermatt is one of the few alpine places where both seasons are equally strong.
