Amanoi · Vĩnh HảiFor this guide we reviewed the best hotels in Ninh Thuan and chose one: a luxury hotel above the bay – with pavilions from 95 square metres, expansive residences and a spa credit that works in two stages. Our choice for Ninh Thuan is the Amanoi in Vĩnh Hải. In our ranking it stands at 4.7 out of 5, and a night starts at 969 euros.
Why we recommend it: Because it opened in September 2013, designed by Jean-Michel Gathy, with 36 units on 100 acres – and because it stands inside Nui Chua National Park, which is also a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Vinh Hy Bay is 300 metres away, the national park five kilometres, Cam Ranh airport 32. Our recommended category is called Mountain Pool Villa.
The spa credit here works in two stages – and the second one hangs on your category.
Stage one: 100 US dollars hotel credit for the spa. From a villa upwards that becomes 250 US dollars.
Stage two: for all residences a further 100 US dollars for the spa is added – from two nights and not in combination with promotions. So anyone staying two nights in a residence has two credits to spend at the spa.
On top of that, two benefits that are rare: the return airport transfer from three nights and complimentary activities according to the hotel’s varying offering.
And then the rooms, whose sizes spread wide: 18 categories, from pavilions of 95 square metres to expansive residences. Residences of this size are a rarity. Our travel advisors confirm the size of the Family, Amanoi and Panoramic residences before you book.
On the view it turns many-voiced: nine different outlooks across 18 categories. Nine categories look out to the ocean, the rest to the lake, the national park, the mountains, the bay – and four of those views exist in this form only here. Two spellings mean the same thing: Mountain and Ocean View appears twice, Mountain & Ocean View once.
A word on the recommendation: it is called the Mountain Pool Villa. It is a villa of 125 square metres looking out to the mountains or the lake.
The Amanoi lies in Vĩnh Hải above the bay – 300 metres to the water of Vinh Hy Bay, five kilometres into Nui Chua National Park, 28 to Phan Rang, 32 to Cam Ranh airport and 59 to Nha Trang.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone who wants Vietnam’s coast without a coastal town – and for those who prefer a national park at the door to a village.
What lies within reach: Vinh Hy Bay, 300 metres, one of the four great bays on Vietnam’s southern coast; Nui Chua National Park, five kilometres, with dry forest, a granite shore and a turtle beach; and Phan Rang, 28 kilometres, with the Cham towers of Po Klong Garai from the 13th century.
On arrival: Cam Ranh airport lies 32 kilometres north, about fifty minutes on the coastal road DT702. From three nights the transfer runs both ways at no charge.
The Amanoi offers 18 categories. None of them is a suite – the structure runs through pavilions, villas and residences.
Sizes start at 95 square metres. The three pavilions stand at 95 each – to the lake, to the national park and to the bay. The villas follow at 125, 172 and 280. The residences start at 445 square metres – the largest offer considerably more space still. Our travel advisors settle the size of the Family, Amanoi and Panoramic residences before booking.
Our recommended category, the Mountain Pool Villa, has 125 square metres and looks out to the mountains or the lake.
On the view: this hotel’s motifs are the sea, the bay, the lake, the mountains and the national park. Nine categories look out to the ocean, one each to the lake, the national park, the lake together with the national park, the mountains with the lake, the bay with the East Sea and Vinh Hy Bay itself; three to mountains and ocean together.
What applies equally to every category: breakfast for two, the spa credit in the two stages above, the upgrade on arrival subject to availability, early check-in and late check-out subject to availability, the return airport transfer from three nights and complimentary activities according to the hotel’s current offering.
A night at the luxury hotel in Ninh Thuan starts at 969 euros. That places the hotel in the top price bracket.
Bookings start at one night. From two nights the second spa credit is added in the residences, from three the transfer both ways.
When it is loveliest: from January to August. Ninh Thuan is the driest province in Vietnam; in those months the coast stays largely free of rain.
What belongs to the southern coast: the rainy season from September to November. It is shorter here than in the rest of the country, but it brings the heaviest showers of the year.
When to ask early: for Tet, the lunar new year, in January or February, and in the European Christmas holidays.
How long to stay: at least three nights – that is when the transfer runs –, better five if the national park and the Cham towers are to come along.
And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in the quietest week of the year just as you do in the busiest.
Ninh Thuan is the driest province in Vietnam. That shapes everything: grapes and aloe grow on the fields around Phan Rang, flocks of sheep stand on the slopes, and the coast is granite rather than palm-lined sand. Anyone who comes here comes not for the infrastructure but for its absence.
