Haikou has two very different sides. By the water lies the Guomao business district with shopping malls, duty-free stores and Evergreen Park; to the southwest, the volcanic landscape with the Mission Hills golf complex. From Haikou Meilan International Airport it takes about 30 minutes to Guomao and about 45 minutes to Mission Hills.
Guomao and Binhai Avenue: Both city hotels stand on Binhai Avenue overlooking the bay. For views and club service we recommend The Langham Haikou, which backs onto Evergreen Park, about a kilometer from downtown. If you are continuing by high-speed train, the Sofitel Haikou is a good base: Haikou East station is about 15 minutes away.
