One 5-star hotel in Ahmedabad, chosen by our travel experts: Hyatt Regency. Included with every suitespot booking: breakfast for two, a room upgrade subject to availability, hotel credit and VIP service – benefits of over €500.
Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad · VastrapurFor this guide we reviewed the best hotels in Ahmedabad and picked one: a single luxury hotel on the river – with an exceptionally low entry price. What that does to the hotel credit is explained below. Our choice for Ahmedabad is the Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad on Ashram Road, above the Sabarmati. It sits at 3.9 out of 5 in our ranking, and a night starts at 65 euros. The hotel takes part in World of Hyatt.
Why we recommend it: Because it stands on the river along which the city reinvented itself: 269 rooms, 25 of them suites, above the Sabarmati and the new riverfront. Add three restaurants – China House for Sichuan, Tinello for Italian, the Chai Shop around the clock –, a 20-metre pool on the second-floor deck and the Aadi Spa. Our recommended category is the River View.
The hotel credit here is almost as large as the room price.
This hotel offers a 50 US dollar hotel credit. That is the usual amount; what is unusual is the figure beside it: a night starts at 65 euros.
At hotels where a night costs 500 euros, a 50-dollar credit is a gesture. Here it is dinner for two at the hotel – and since the hotel carries a minimum stay of two nights, the stay itself is the condition under which the credit applies at all.
What that means: anyone booking two nights here gets the second one practically paid back through the credit – as an evening at China House or Tinello. And anyone who leaves the credit unused is simply giving it away.
Our advice: plan the credit as a dinner before you book – not as a leftover. Tell our travel advisors which evening you mean, and whether you want the river side: two of the six room categories have a river view, and our recommendation is one of them.
The Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad lies on Ashram Road in the business district west of the old town, with the Sabarmati and its riverfront directly below.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone who takes Ahmedabad as a city and not merely as the airport for Gujarat: old town, ashram and river all lie within ten minutes.
What is within reach: the Sabarmati Ashram, Gandhi's home from 1917 to 1930, upstream on the same road; the old town with the Jama Masjid, the Sidi Saiyyed lattice and the pols, across the bridge; and the Calico Museum of textiles, for which you register weeks in advance.
For orientation: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel airport is a good half hour to the northeast. Ahmedabad Junction station is a quarter of an hour away; the stepwell of Adalaj lies half an hour north, Modhera and Patan two hours.
The Hyatt Regency Ahmedabad offers ten categories, four suites among them.
The ladder is wide at the bottom: six room categories at 33 square metres, two of them facing the river, two on the club floor. Then 73 in the Regency Suite, 80 in the Regency Executive Suite, 100 in the Diplomat Suite and 150 in the Presidential Suite.
On the outlook: two of the ten categories look out on the river – both on the 33-square-metre rung. If you want to see the Sabarmati, ask for River View by name.
On the upgrade the Hyatt rule applies: at the time of booking, subject to availability, not from room to suite. Within the six room categories it brings the river side or the club; the suites you book yourself.
What applies to every category alike: breakfast for two people, the 50 US dollar hotel credit and a welcome gift.
A night at the luxury hotel in Ahmedabad starts at 65 euros. That is the price for this one hotel – an exceptionally low entry point for a luxury hotel.
A stay begins at two nights. Included are: breakfast for two people, a 50 US dollar hotel credit, an upgrade at the time of booking subject to availability (not from room to suite), regular points and status benefits with World of Hyatt, a welcome gift, and early check-in and late check-out subject to availability.
When it is at its best: from November to February. Dry, warm by day, cool in the evening – and in January the kites rise over the whole city for Uttarayan.
What belongs to Ahmedabad: the heat from April to June with days above 40 degrees and the monsoon from July to September. That is not a warning but the calendar – a pool on the deck is built for the heat, and in Gujarat the monsoon is shorter than further south.
When the city dances: in September or October, for nine nights of Navratri – Ahmedabad is considered the place where the garba is biggest.
When to enquire early: for Uttarayan and Navratri. With six room categories of the same size it is not the hotel that is scarce but the river side.
How long to stay: two nights – the minimum – for old town, ashram and Adalaj. Modhera and Patan add a third.
And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in the quietest week of the year just as you do in the busiest.
Gujarat is the state Gandhi came from and where India weaves its textiles, has its salt desert and its only lions. Ahmedabad is its largest city – not the capital, that is Gandhinagar next door – and the city where Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn built.
Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comThree things belong to it. First the Sabarmati Ashram: Gandhi's rooms, his spinning wheel, the place from which the Salt March set out in 1930. Second Adalaj: a 15th-century stepwell built five storeys down into the earth, half an hour north. Third the pols: Ahmedabad's old town consists of hundreds of walled residential courts, and the early-morning heritage walks lead through them.
For everything else there is the hotel credit: 50 US dollars, with no rate condition and no further strings – and why it weighs more here than elsewhere stands above.
What our travel advisors arrange most often: the registration at the Calico Museum, because it admits only a few visitors a day, and the driver for Modhera and Patan, the sun temple and the Rani ki Vav stepwell, both World Heritage and both worth a day.
And for members of World of Hyatt: our benefits come on top of the programme's, they do not replace them. Give us your membership number when you enquire.
