Your guide to the best luxury hotel in Trouville-sur-Mer

Trouville is Deauville’s older sister: the fishing village that Paris turned into a resort in the 19th century, with the fish market on the harbour, the villas on the promenade and the timber boardwalk called the Planches. Deauville lies on the other side of the Touques, five minutes across the bridge – and is the place where one is seen; Trouville the place where one eats.Cures Marines Hotel TrouvilleCures Marines Hotel TrouvilleFor this guide we reviewed the best hotels in Trouville-sur-Mer and chose one: a luxury hotel in the wing of the old casino, right on the beach – with twelve categories, exactly one of which has the full sea view. What that means for booking is below.

At no extra cost: booking through suitespot costs the same as booking direct with the hotel – the benefits come on top, free of charge.

One luxury hotel in Trouville-sur-Mer – and who it suits

Our choice for Trouville-sur-Mer is the Cures Marines Hotel Trouville on Boulevard de la Cahotte, on the beach between casino and promenade. In our ranking it stands at 4.3 out of 5, and a night starts at 218 euros. The hotel belongs to the MGallery collection and to the ALL (Accor) programme.

Why we recommend it: Because it is Trouville’s first five-star hotel and stands in the building that invented the town: the Belle Époque casino of 1912, whose wing today holds 103 rooms and six suites. Where the thermal baths once were, there is now the thalasso spa with heated seawater pool, sauna and hammam – the cure Trouville has sold for 150 years, under the roof of the hotel. Dinner is at La Galerie with a view of the sea, and the fish market lies ten minutes on at the harbour. Our recommended category is called Classic Sea View.

Our travel advisors’ insider tip

Twelve categories – and exactly one with the full sea view.

The categories: 22 square metres in the Classic (three times: as a plain Classic, with partial sea view and as Classic Terrace with partial sea view), 25 in the Superior Courtyard, 26 in the Superior, 27 in the Deluxe Family and in the Deluxe with partial sea view, 36 in the Deluxe Terrace with partial sea view, 60 in the Suite with partial sea view – and 60 in the Reine des Plages Suite with full sea view. Added to these are a Superior on the rear side and a second Deluxe Family.

The word that matters is Partial : five categories see the sea partially, one fully. Here the partial view is the rule, and the exception is called Reine des Plages – the suite at 60 square metres that has the Channel in full width.

That means: our recommended category is called Classic Sea View – in the list it is the Classic at 22 square metres with partial sea view. That is the entry point, and it is honestly named: a piece of Channel, not the front. Anyone wanting the front books the Reine des Plages; anyone wanting a terrace, the Classic Terrace at 22 or the Deluxe Terrace at 36.

Then the package: eight benefits – breakfast, 100 US dollars of credit, upgrade on arrival, ALL (Accor) points, early check-in and late check-out, welcome gift and two nights minimum stay. The credit is spent in the thalasso spa in one afternoon.

Our advice: Book the Classic with the partial view and let the upgrade bring the Deluxe Terrace. With 103 rooms and six suites the upgrade on arrival is a real quantity here – and the Deluxe Terrace at 36 is the category where it usually lands. Anyone wanting the whole front tells our travel advisors “Reine des Plages”.

Where to stay in Trouville: in the casino wing of 1912, right on the beach

The Cures Marines Hotel Trouville stands on Boulevard de la Cahotte in Trouville-sur-Mer, on the beach beside the casino – eight hundred metres from Trouville-Deauville station, thirteen kilometres from Honfleur, 38 from Caen and two hours by train from Paris.

Our recommendation is therefore for anyone wanting to take the Côte Fleurie from its Norman side – and for anyone wanting a cure without going to a clinic.

What lies within reach: the Planches, the boardwalk on the beach, at the door; the fish market on the harbour with the stalls and the oysters, ten minutes; and Deauville with the horses, the casino and the bathing huts bearing the names of film stars, five minutes across the bridge.

For orientation: Trouville-Deauville station lies on the line from Paris Saint-Lazare, two hours; Honfleur with the old harbour is a quarter of an hour, Caen and the landing beaches three-quarters of an hour. In Trouville one walks; the Côte Fleurie one drives.

Twelve categories: the best hotel in Trouville-sur-Mer from the inside

The Cures Marines Hotel Trouville lists twelve categories, two of them suites – six with a view of the sea, full or partial.

The rooms: 22 square metres in the plain Classic, in the Classic with partial sea view – our recommended Classic Sea View – and in the Classic Terrace with partial sea view; 25 in the Superior Courtyard, 26 in the Superior, 27 in the Deluxe Family and in the Deluxe with partial sea view, 36 in the Deluxe Terrace with partial sea view; plus a Superior on the rear side and a second Deluxe Family.

The suites: 60 in the Suite with partial sea view and 60 in the Reine des Plages Suite with the full one.

On the view: this hotel’s motif is the Channel off Trouville – one category faces it fully, five more partially.

What applies equally to every category: breakfast for two, 100 US dollars of hotel credit, the upgrade on arrival subject to availability, ALL (Accor) points, early check-in and late check-out subject to availability and a welcome gift.

What a night at the luxury hotel in Trouville-sur-Mer costs

A night at the luxury hotel in Trouville-sur-Mer starts at 218 euros.

The minimum stay is two nights. Included are: breakfast for two, 100 US dollars of hotel credit, an upgrade on arrival subject to availability, ALL (Accor) points, early check-in and late check-out and a welcome gift.

When it is loveliest: from April to September, when the beach is wide and the cafés on the harbour sit outside – and in winter, when the thalasso spa is the reason for the journey and the beach is empty.

What belongs to the Côte Fleurie: the film festival. At the beginning of September American cinema comes to Deauville, and both sides of the Touques are booked out. That is not a warning but the calendar: anyone coming then comes for it. And the weather: Normandy rains, even in July; the thalasso spa is built for that.

When to ask early: for the film festival, on summer weekends and at Easter – and for the Reine des Plages in any case.

How long to stay: two nights – the minimum – for beach, harbour and Deauville; three if Honfleur and the cure are added.

And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in the quietest week of the year just as you do in the busiest.

103 rooms, a thalasso spa and exclusive services in a 5-star hotel

The Côte Fleurie is the strip of coast between Honfleur and Cabourg on which Paris has gone to the sea for 150 years: villas in half-timbering and brick, beaches with boardwalks, horses and casinos. Trouville is its origin, Deauville its stage, Honfleur its picture.

Three things belong to it. First Honfleur: the old harbour with the narrow half-timbered hotels that Boudin and Monet painted, a quarter of an hour. Second Deauville: the Planches with the cabins, the casino, the racecourse and in August the polo weeks. Third the landing beaches: Omaha Beach and Arromanches, an hour to the west, the day on which one sees the coast differently.

The package at this hotel is breakfast, credit, upgrade, points, check-in and check-out and gift.

What our travel advisors arrange most often: the Reine des Plages, for the reason stated above, the thalasso appointment on the first afternoon and the train from Saint-Lazare – because two hours by rail are the better arrival here than three hours of motorway.
