In the 14th century, the Due Torri Hotel Verona was the Scaligers’ guesthouse, the Palazzo dell’Aquila. From 1674 it served as an inn where Mozart, Goethe and Garibaldi stayed, and since 1959 it has been a grand hotel – today one of the 5-star hotels in Verona. During its conversion by Alessandro Polo, Pino Casarini painted the frescoes; they are joined by Baroque paintings by Francesco Barbieri and Biedermeier and Empire furniture. Two suites are named after great figures of music: the Mozart Suite and the Maria Callas Suite. The hotel is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and of the Locali storici d’Italia.
The NH Collection Palazzo Verona is also housed in a 14th-century palazzo. In the basement, excavated Roman wall remains are on view, some of the 70 rooms retain historic frescoes and paintings, and at the top of the range is the 87 m² Presidential Suite. The Hotel Indigo Verona - Grand Hotel Des Arts occupies an Art Nouveau residence from the 1920s that originally belonged to an Austrian noble family; the facade has been largely preserved.
