Your guide to the best luxury hotels in South Tyrol

South Tyrol is the one Alpine region where you can have breakfast on a Dolomites terrace and sit among palm trees and vineyards by lunchtime – less than two hours' drive separates the Merano basin from the peaks of the Sella group. We currently feature 25 hand-picked luxury hotels in South Tyrol, spread across 17 places.ForestisForestis · BrixenEvery booking through suitespot comes with a comprehensive package of suitespot benefits:
  • Complimentary breakfast for two
  • Room upgrade subject to availability
  • Up to USD 100 hotel credit per stay
  • Early check-in & late check-out subject to availability
  • Regular points & status benefits in the hotel loyalty programs

The best-known properties divide between two very different landscapes. In the Dolomites you will find Forestis above Bressanone – at around EUR 850 a night the region's most expensive house – the COMO Alpina Dolomites on the Alpe di Siusi, Hotel La Perla and Hotel Sassongher in Corvara, and the Alpenroyal in Selva and the Gardena Grödnerhof in Ortisei.

The Merano area is the milder counterpoint: the Miramonti and Villa Eden above the town, Castel Fragsburg on the slope above them, the Preidlhof in Naturno and three properties in LanaSchwarzschmied, Villa Arnica and 1477 Reichhalter. Add to those the Terra in the Sarentino valley, the Vigilius Mountain Resort and the Schgaguler in Castelrotto, three houses that stand out architecturally.

Spa hotels in South Tyrol: why the region is known for them

Few destinations in the Alps are as closely associated with spa culture as South Tyrol, and that is no accident: many houses here grew over decades as family businesses and kept extending their spa areas, rather than adding one to a finished hotel concept.Hotel Schwarzschmied LanaHotel Schwarzschmied Lana · BozenIt shows in the portfolio. The Preidlhof in Naturno (from around EUR 520) does not carry the words „Luxury Dolce Vita Resort" by chance, the Alpin Royal Wellness Refugium in the Aurina valley puts it in its name, and the Terra – The Magic Place in the Sarentino valley is built entirely around the idea. Above Merano, the Miramonti and Villa Eden have panorama pools that count among the region's most recognisable images.Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comAsk via WhatsAppWrite an emailOne practical note for international guests: South Tyrolean spas are generously sized but, in the sauna areas, traditionally textile-free. If you would prefer otherwise, let us know in advance – our travel advisors know which houses offer separate times or areas.

Luxury hotels in South Tyrol by area: Dolomites, Merano or Isarco valley

South Tyrol is not a town but a landscape of valleys, and they differ considerably in climate and character. Choosing the valley matters more here than choosing the house.Miramonti Boutique Hotel MeranoMiramonti Boutique Hotel Merano · Santa CaterinaThe rule of thumb: the Dolomites for mountains and skiing, Merano for mild air and spa tradition, the Isarco and Pusteria valleys for a mix of both.

The Dolomites: Val Gardena, Alta Badia and the Alpe di Siusi

Classic mountain South Tyrol. In Corvara in the Badia valley stand Hotel La Perla (from around EUR 405) and Hotel Sassongher (from around EUR 208); in Val Gardena, the Alpenroyal Grand Hotel in Selva (from around EUR 284) and the Gardena Grödnerhof in Ortisei. On the Alpe di Siusi, Europe's largest high-altitude meadow, sits the COMO Alpina Dolomites (from around EUR 445), and in nearby Castelrotto the architecturally striking Hotel Schgaguler.

Merano and around: the mild south

The Merano basin is the warmest corner of South Tyrol – palm trees grow beside apple orchards. Above the town are the Miramonti Boutique Hotel (from around EUR 478) and Villa Eden (from around EUR 565), with Castel Fragsburg (from around EUR 458) on the slope above. In Lana three properties stand close together – Hotel Schwarzschmied, Villa Arnica and 1477 Reichhalter – joined by the Vigilius Mountain Resort, reachable only by cable car. In Naturno, in the Venosta valley, follows the Preidlhof.

Isarco, Sarentino and Pusteria valleys

Above Bressanone stands Forestis (from around EUR 850), the region's most expensive house. In the Sarentino valley sits Terra – The Magic Place (from around EUR 309), and in the Pusteria valley the Falkensteiner Hotel Kronplatz in Riscone (from around EUR 359) and Castel Badia in San Lorenzo (from around EUR 578). Further north, in the Aurina valley, follows the Alpin Royal Wellness Refugium (from around EUR 207).

Bolzano and the Senales valley

In the regional capital Bolzano you will find the Parkhotel Mondschein (from around EUR 172 – the region's most affordable entry) and Castel Hörtenberg. High in the Senales valley, Hotel Zur Goldenen Rose in Certosa occupies a former Carthusian monastery.

Food: why South Tyrol eats so well

South Tyrol sits on the seam between two cuisines – Alpine-Austrian and Italian – and its restaurants live off exactly that. The same menu carries Schlutzkrapfen and house-smoked speck alongside pasta and vitello tonnato, with wine from the slopes around Bolzano and the Adige valley to match.Villa Eden The Leading Park Retreat MeranoVilla Eden The Leading Park Retreat Merano · Untermais - Maia BassaFor our portfolio this has a practical consequence: almost all the houses here are traditionally half-board operations with their own kitchen, rather than hotels with a restaurant attached. Do ask us about the board options before booking – over a longer stay the difference between room-with-breakfast and the three-quarter board common in South Tyrol matters more than the room category. Your suitespot hotel credit of up to USD 100 can be applied to the bill at every property.

What a luxury hotel in South Tyrol costs – and when to travel

For an Alpine region the range is wide: entry rates run from around EUR 172 a night at the Parkhotel Mondschein in Bolzano to around EUR 850 a night at Forestis above Bressanone, with a typical entry rate around EUR 364 a night. When comparing, look at the board arrangement: many South Tyrolean houses quote half or three-quarter board, which makes the nightly figure look higher than it is in relative terms.

South Tyrol has two high seasons, which matters for planning: winter from Christmas to early March, when Val Gardena, Alta Badia and Kronplatz connect to the Sella Ronda and Dolomiti Superski – and autumn, when the grape harvest, the Törggelen season and clear views coincide. The quietest and cheapest weeks lie in between: April to early June and November. Individual houses close for refurbishment in those windows – talk to us and we will check opening dates in advance.

Exclusive experiences & premium services

The region's concierge teams arrange what South Tyrol is made of: guided walks across the Alpe di Siusi and through the Dolomites, ski days on the Sella Ronda, tastings at the wine estates of the Adige valley and visits to the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle near Merano.Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comAsk via WhatsAppWrite an emailAs a suitespot guest you travel with VIP status: our travel advisors register your preferences directly with the hotel before arrival – here above all the room's aspect, because whether your balcony faces the Dolomites or the valley shapes the entire stay in this region. On getting there: most guests drive over the Brenner pass; by rail you change at Bolzano, Bressanone or Fortezza, and we will coordinate the transfer into the valley on request.

Earn points & use your status in South Tyrol

suitespot rates are genuine direct rates: you keep earning regular points and elite nights in the hotel's loyalty program and retain your status benefits – on top of your suitespot benefits. These programs are represented in South Tyrol:

Frequently asked questions about luxury hotels in South Tyrol

How much does a luxury hotel in South Tyrol cost?

Entry rates across our 25 South Tyrolean properties currently start at around EUR 172 a night at the Parkhotel Mondschein in Bolzano and reach about EUR 850 a night at Forestis above Bressanone. The typical entry rate is around EUR 364 a night. When comparing, watch the board arrangement: half or three-quarter board is common in South Tyrol, so the rate often covers more than the room alone. Rates change daily; the current ones including your suitespot benefits are shown in the hotel overview.

Which hotel in South Tyrol has the best spa?

South Tyrol is known for its spa culture, and several properties in our portfolio are built entirely around it: the Preidlhof Luxury Dolce Vita Resort in Naturno, the Alpin Royal Wellness Refugium in the Aurina valley and Terra – The Magic Place in the Sarentino valley. For the panoramic view over the valley, the Miramonti and Villa Eden above Merano are the names to know. One note: sauna areas here are traditionally textile-free – tell us if separate times or areas matter to you.

Do I earn points and keep my status on suitespot bookings?

Yes. suitespot rates are genuine direct rates: you earn regular points and elite nights in the respective hotel program, and your existing status benefits remain intact. South Tyrol is a special case here: the region is dominated by family-run houses with no chain affiliation – 11 of our 25 properties belong to no program at all. Represented are Marriott Bonvoy (6 properties), the Leaders Club (5) and iPrefer (3). At the unaffiliated houses you receive the suitespot benefits but no program points. Importantly, suitespot benefits come on top of your status benefits – they do not replace them.

Dolomites or Merano – which area suits me?

The Dolomites (Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Alpe di Siusi) are classic mountain South Tyrol: hiking in summer, skiing on the Sella Ronda and Dolomiti Superski in winter. The Merano area is considerably milder – palm trees, apple orchards, a long spa tradition – and the better choice for spring or autumn travel or if wellness is your focus. The Isarco, Sarentino and Pusteria valleys sit between the two and combine both. Merano to Corvara is under two hours by car, so a day trip is always possible.

When is the best time to visit South Tyrol?

South Tyrol has two high seasons: winter from Christmas to early March for snow and skiing, and autumn, with the grape harvest, the Törggelen season and the clearest views of the year. The quietest and cheapest weeks are April to early June and November – though individual houses close for refurbishment in those windows. If you would like to travel then, we will check opening dates for you in advance.

Are there hotels in South Tyrol you cannot reach by car?

Yes, and it is one of the region's most distinctive houses: the Vigilius Mountain Resort above Lana is reachable only by cable car – cars stay in the valley. Similarly exposed are the COMO Alpina Dolomites on the Alpe di Siusi, where daytime access is restricted, and Forestis at some 1,800 metres above Bressanone. Do ask us about transfers for these properties, so that arrival is settled in advance.
