Our choice in Malacca: The Majestic – a hand-picked 5-star hotel, individually vetted. Included with every suitespot booking: breakfast for two, a room upgrade subject to availability, hotel credit and VIP service – benefits of over €500.
The Majestic Malacca · Pengkalan RamaThe historic centre is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. For this guide we reviewed the best hotels in Malacca and chose one: The Majestic, a 5-star hotel.A night at The Majestic Malacca costs €127. That includes breakfast for two, a 50 USD hotel credit, an upgrade on arrival subject to availability as well as early check-in and late check-out subject to availability.
Why we recommend it: the heart of the hotel is a restored 1920 mansion from the Straits Settlements era – with its original porcelain tiling and teak fittings. An extension with restaurant and spa adjoins it. In a city that lives on the coexistence of cultures, you stay in a building that tells exactly that story – and it stands directly on the Malacca River.
Two things that belong before you book.
This hotel requires two nights. For a single night the suitespot benefits do not apply. For Malacca that is no loss: many people tick the city off as a day trip from Kuala Lumpur, which does it no justice – in the evening, once the coaches have gone, the old centre is a different place.
The view of the Strait of Malacca belongs to the suite. The hotel offers exactly two categories, and the view comes with the larger one. If you want it, say so when you enquire – with a single category, timing decides.
The 50 USD hotel credit is best spent in the spa. The treatments there follow the region's Peranakan tradition, which you will not find in this form elsewhere.
The Majestic stands at 188 Jalan Bunga Raya, in the Pengkalan Rama district, on the bank of the Malacca River.
Our recommendation for a first visit: the whole historic centre works on foot. Jonker Walk in Chinatown, the red Stadthuys from the Dutch period and the remains of the Portuguese fortress A Famosa are all within twenty minutes.
The river is the best route through town. The promenade runs past painted terraces, and boats go in the evening – that is the picture the city is known for.
Kuala Lumpur is about 150 kilometres north, a good two hours by car. Many people combine the two.
The hotel offers two categories – the shortest list in this guide.
The Deluxe Room measures 35 square metres. The Suite measures 70 – exactly double. There is nothing in between, which makes the decision simple.
The difference is not only floor area: the view of the Strait of Malacca comes with the suite.
Our travel advisors suggest starting with the Deluxe Room. If you are staying two nights – which is the condition here anyway – at least ask about the suite.
A night at the luxury hotel in Malacca costs €127. The suitespot benefits apply from the second night.
When it is at its best: June to August. That is the driest period on the west coast; it is hot all year.
When it is busiest: at weekends, all year round. Malacca is the weekend destination for Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, and Jonker Walk holds its night market from Friday to Sunday. To see the city quietly, come midweek.
When to expect rain: October to December. The north-east monsoon brings short, heavy showers, mostly in the afternoon.
How long to stay: two or three nights. One for the old centre, one for the river and the spa – and anyone arriving from Kuala Lumpur adds a third for the coast.
On the minimum stay: two nights are needed for the benefits to apply. Whatever the date, you get them in June exactly as in December.
And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in the quietest week of the year just as you do in the busiest.
Malacca is the city where five hundred years of trading history are stacked in a very small space.
Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comThe first thing is the coexistence. The Portuguese, the Dutch and the British ruled here in turn, and each era left its buildings: A Famosa, the Stadthuys, the churches on the hill. Between them stand Chinese temples, one of the oldest mosques in the country and an Indian quarter – all within walking distance.
The second is the food. Peranakan cooking, called Nyonya here, grew out of Chinese ingredients and Malay spices and exists in this form almost only along the Strait of Malacca. Add the Kristang cooking of the Portuguese-descended community. The hotel serves both.
The third is the river. It divides the old town, and in recent years the promenade along its banks has become the evening walk. The hotel stands directly on it.
What our travel advisors arrange most often here is the spa treatment – and the transfer from Kuala Lumpur, because the drive is pleasanter with a driver than by coach.

Yes. The suitespot benefits apply from two nights. That suits Malacca: in the evening, once the day visitors have gone, the old centre is a different place.

Our travel advisors suggest starting with the Deluxe Room at 35 square metres. The Suite measures 70 – and it alone looks out over the Strait of Malacca.

That depends on your membership: whether a stay here earns points or status nights in your programme, your travel advisor will confirm before you book. The suitespot benefits apply in any case.
