Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal Paris · 2e ArrondissementWhich one suits you depends on how you want to experience Paris. If you want to walk to the Louvre and the Tuileries, book Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal Paris on Place de Valois, right by the Palais Royal. For couples, we recommend Relais Christine Paris: a townhouse with a private flower garden and a Guerlain spa beneath 13th-century vaults. You recognize a boutique hotel in Paris by the building itself: often a townhouse or a Haussmann building with a courtyard, salons with a fireplace and interiors a designer created for that very house. The hotels in this selection have between 12 and 109 rooms. Most are on the Right Bank between the Louvre, the Madeleine and the Arc de Triomphe, with a second group in Saint-Germain-des-Prés on the Left Bank.
Relais Christine Paris · 6. ArrondissementSaint-Germain-des-Prés and the Latin Quarter: Behind a gate on quiet Rue Christine you find Relais Christine Paris, close to the Seine and the Latin Quarter. Hotel Dame des Arts Paris stands on Rue Danton, a few steps from Place Saint-Michel, and Pavillon Faubourg Saint Germain lies between the Seine and Café de Flore.
Castille Paris · 1. ArrondissementLouvre, Palais Royal and Place Vendôme: Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal Paris sits on Place de Valois right by the Palais Royal, a few minutes’ walk from the Louvre. On quiet Rue du Mont Thabor, 150 meters from the Jardin des Tuileries, you stay at Maison Barrière Vendôme Paris; Castille Paris is on Rue Cambon, right next to the Maison Chanel.
Champs-Élysées and the Golden Triangle: On quiet Rue Vernet at the top of the Champs-Élysées stands Château des Fleurs Paris, a few steps from the Arc de Triomphe. Grand Powers Hotel Paris is on Rue François 1er near Avenue George V and Avenue Montaigne, Hotel San Regis Paris one minute from Avenue Montaigne.
Madeleine and the 16th arrondissement: On Boulevard Malesherbes, near Place de la Madeleine and the Opéra Garnier, you find Hyatt Paris Madeleine, and Fauchon L’Hôtel Paris right on Place de la Madeleine. In the quieter 16th arrondissement we recommend Hotel Keppler Paris, a few minutes’ walk from the Arc de Triomphe.
Marais, Bastille and Pigalle: On Place des Vosges in the Marais, Le Pavillon de la Reine Paris sits behind a courtyard with gardens. Le Pigalle Paris is on Rue Frochot on the southern slope of Montmartre, Hôtel Paris Bastille Boutet in an Art Deco factory between Bastille and Gare de Lyon.
Several hotels keep bikes for their guests: Relais Christine Paris rents out bicycles and tandems, at Le Pavillon de la Reine Paris the loan bikes are free, and Pavillon Faubourg Saint Germain offers two e-scooters in addition to bicycles. If you arrive by car, Relais Christine parks it free of charge with valet service in its own garage.
Our pick for history is Relais Christine Paris. The townhouse stands on the ruins of an Augustinian monastery founded in 1231 under Louis IX; its 13th-century vaults now house the Guerlain spa. In 1979 a pair of siblings opened a boutique hotel here, and the interiors are by Laura Gonzalez. Le Pavillon de la Reine Paris is named after Anne of Austria, who lived in the wing facing today’s Place des Vosges in the 17th century; the square was inaugurated in 1612 as Place Royale.
Le Pavillon de la Reine Paris · Le MaraisLiterature runs through Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The three houses of Pavillon Faubourg Saint Germain date back to 1642; at number 1, James Joyce finished “Ulysses” in 1921, and in the vaulted cellar of number 3, where the spa is today, Léo Ferré made his debut at the Quod Libet cabaret. In the cellar bar of Hotel Pont Royal Paris, a hotel since 1923, Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir and Romain Gary were regulars. And Hotel Bel Ami Paris takes its name from Maupassant’s “Bel-Ami”, said to have been printed in this building in 1885.
Château des Fleurs Paris · Champs-ÉlyséesBelle Époque and Art Deco: Château des Fleurs Paris occupies a 1910 townhouse near the Arc de Triomphe, which Quintana Partners furnished in a neo-Art Nouveau style inspired by Horta and Mackintosh, as a tribute to Parisian ballroom culture. Hyatt Paris Madeleine was built in 1860 as a banking family’s mansion; in 1927 it gained four floors and a glass-and-iron roof inspired by Gustave Eiffel’s workshops. The Art Deco factory of Hôtel Paris Bastille Boutet, with its ocher mosaics, was built by Achille Champy in 1926 for the timber merchant Maison Boutet.
Contemporary signatures: architect Thomas Vidalenc designed Norman Hotel Paris as a tribute to American graphic designer Norman Ives and his vivid work of the 1950s and 60s. At Hotel Dame des Arts Paris, Raphael Navot fitted a 1950s building almost entirely with bespoke furniture. Parisian designer Sarah Lavoine styled Le Roch Hotel Paris like small Parisian apartments. And Hotel Balzac Paris, on the site of Honoré de Balzac’s former home, was redesigned by Festen Architecture in 2024 in the style of the 1930s and 40s.
Michelin Keys: Eight hotels in this selection hold one Michelin Key each, among them Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal Paris, Relais Christine Paris, Château des Fleurs Paris and Le Pavillon de la Reine Paris. Michelin Keys recognize hotels, not restaurants. Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal Paris also holds four stars in the Forbes Travel Guide.
Truly small is Hotel Splendide Royal Paris: the 1897 townhouse, later owned by Pierre Cardin, has just twelve suites on six floors, furnished with an Italian touch. At Maison Barrière Vendôme Paris, each of the 26 units is dedicated to a woman who shaped Paris, from Simone de Beauvoir to Joséphine Baker. Many apartments have their own kitchen, a private chef comes on request, and check-in takes place right in your suite.
Hotel Splendide Royal Paris · 8th ArrondissementHôtel L’Hotel Paris on Rue des Beaux-Arts, where Oscar Wilde lived until his death in 1900, has only 20 rooms. Jacques Garcia designed each one individually, a spiral staircase winds up six floors, and the hammam pool in the vaulted cellar is yours alone when you book ahead, included in the room rate. At Relais Christine Paris, 21 of the 48 rooms are suites, two garden suites have their own garden terrace, and an honesty bar awaits in the salons with fireplaces.
Hotel San Regis ParisSeveral hotels are family-run. Hotel San Regis Paris, an 1857 townhouse and a hotel since 1923, has belonged to the Georges family since 1984 and is run today by the daughters Sarah and Zeina; many of the antiques came from the George V in the 1950s. The Temimi family has run Le Belmont Paris since 1972, now in the third generation, and at Majestic Hotel Champs-Elysées Paris, run by the family group Les Hôtels Baverez, more than half of the rooms and suites have a kitchenette.
Personal service takes many forms in Paris. At Fauchon L’Hôtel Paris, a gourmet bar stocked with Fauchon products, refilled free of charge every day, replaces the minibar; 21 of the 54 rooms are suites. Le Pigalle Paris does without a classic front desk: its 40 rooms are furnished like a Parisian friend’s apartment, with vinyl, books and flea-market finds, and room service is available around the clock.
If you want to see the Eiffel Tower from your room, ask at Grand Powers Hotel Paris for the Eiffel Tower Suite (60 m²) on the top floor, at Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal Paris for the duplex Eiffel Tower suite with a large terrace, or at Le Metropolitan Paris for one of the six suites with panoramic views of the tower. Our travel advisors will check which category is available for your dates.
For food lovers, Le Pavillon de la Reine Paris on Place des Vosges is a fixed address: at the restaurant Anne, Thibault Sombardier cooks seasonal fine-dining cuisine, awarded one Michelin star, with brunch on Sundays. At Hotel Balzac Paris, a secret door leads from the lobby into Pierre Gagnaire’s restaurant, located in the same building and run independently.
Le Pavillon de la Reine Paris · DiningNorman Hotel Paris brings its own chef: Apiradee Thirakomen, known in Paris as Thiou, cooks Thai cuisine with French produce at the restaurant Thiou. At Cléo in Le Narcisse Blanc Hôtel Paris, Alexandre Semperé serves five- or seven-course tasting menus in the evening, including a vegetarian option. And for Piedmontese food, head to Castille Paris: at L’Assaggio, executive chef Marco Terenghi cooks from a menu by Ugo Alciati.
Fauchon L’Hôtel Paris · DiningFor a sweet break: from the terrace of Le Grand Café Fauchon at Fauchon L’Hôtel Paris you look out over the Église de la Madeleine. At Hotel San Regis Paris, pastry chef Jessica Préalpato serves Snack Time at Les Confidences, a winter garden under a glass roof, and at Café Clotilde in Maison Colbert Paris tea time comes from pastry chef Nina Métayer.
For the evening, we recommend three bars. From the rooftop bar on the 9th floor of Hotel Dame des Arts Paris, the view reaches from the Eiffel Tower to Notre-Dame, the Panthéon and Montmartre; booking ahead is a good idea. The Bar James Joyce at Pavillon Faubourg Saint Germain feels like an English club and hosts live music nights, and at the Bar F-Sharp in Hotel Pont Royal Paris you settle into club chairs for jazz sessions.
The champagne bar at Le Dokhan's Paris in the 16th arrondissement lists more than 130 champagnes. Candles are lit in the evening, there is a jazz night once a week, and it is open daily from 6 to 11 p.m.: a fine start before dinner.
In this selection, a night starts at 180 € at Le Pigalle Paris and goes up to 734 € at Maison Delano Paris. Alongside price and benefits, the table shows the number of rooms and the designer or building year of each hotel. You can find all hotels with availability in the hotel list below.
