The harbour of Stari Grad is two kilometres away, the ferry port just under four, Hvar town eleven. Our recommended category is called Garden.

The list: 39 to 47 square metres in the Panoramic Room to the sea, 45 in the Garden Room; then to the suites at 45 to 64 (Panoramic), 64 (Garden and Bay), 70, 82, 101 and 145 in the two family suites; and finally the villas at 217, twice 300 and 500 square metres.
What that means: even this hotel’s entry level is larger than at most luxury hotels. Anyone booking here gets space even in the smallest category; what changes further up is the kind of accommodation, not the tightness.
And the recommendation has a quirk: the Garden Room is named after the garden – unlike the eight categories that face the sea expressly. Anyone who wants to see the sea takes the Panoramic Room at 47: two square metres more and the view of the water.

Our recommendation is therefore for anyone wanting Hvar without its reputation – and for those arriving by ferry from Split who are sitting by the water ten minutes later.
What lies within reach: the bay itself with olive groves and a pebble beach, at the door; Stari Grad with the Tvrdalj, the fortified summer residence of the poet Petar Hektorović, two kilometres; the Stari Grad Plain, the Greek grid of parcels from 384 BC and a World Heritage site, right behind it.
For orientation: Hvar town with the fortress and the Pakleni islands lies eleven kilometres away, Jelsa ten, the ferry port for the car ferry to Split just under four. Split airport is a good two hours by ferry and car. In the bay one walks; across the island one drives.
