Where to stay in Šibenik: on the Mandalina peninsula, by the marina
The D-Resort Šibenik lies on the Mandalina peninsula, right on the marina, a good two kilometres from the historic centre. In front of it runs the St Anthony Channel, the narrow waterway through which everything bound for Šibenik comes and goes.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone who wants to stay on the water and take the old town on foot or by water taxi – not for those who want to step out of the door straight into the lanes.
What is within reach: the Cathedral of St James, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built entirely of stone slabs without mortar – the dome included; St Nicholas Fortress at the mouth of the channel, the town's second World Heritage Site, best seen from a boat; and St Michael's Fortress above the old town, which hosts concerts today.
For orientation: the old town is about ten minutes by car or half an hour on foot along the water. Krka National Park with the Skradinski Buk waterfalls is just under half an hour inland, the Kornati islands are reached by boat, and Split airport is an hour away.
20 categories: the best hotel in Šibenik from the inside
The D-Resort Šibenik offers 20 categories, and all 20 state a floor area – rarer than you would think.
The ladder has four steps: twelve rooms up to 33 square metres, four suites at 61, two Presidential Suites at 120 and two villas at 150. More than half the hotel therefore stands on the first step, and the jump from there to the second nearly doubles the space. If room matters to you, it is decided between 33 and 61 – not higher up.
On the outlook, one note you need for comparing: 12 of the 20 categories face the water – and that runs across every step. Both Presidential Suites measure 120 square metres, but only one is listed with a water outlook; the two villas are the same.
Which means: the view here belongs to the individual room. So ask for it explicitly, or the same booking can end up with or without.
And one point on the benefits: the complimentary upgrade applies at the time of booking and subject to availability. The first is a real advantage – you know before you travel, not at the desk. The second means: it is not a guarantee, and we will not promise you one.

Dalmatia has many old towns, but Šibenik is the only one that was Croatian from the start. It was first named in 1066 under King Petar Krešimir IV, and because it lies behind a channel rather than on an open bay it was harder to take than its neighbours.
