For families we recommend the InterContinental Bali Resort: six pools are spread across 14 hectares of tropical garden, among them the 35-metre Nirwana Pool with a swim-up bar, a pool styled like a Balinese water palace with statues of five goddesses, and two shallow fun pools for children. On Kuta Beach, the Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort has an infinity pool with a sea view, open from 7 am to 9 pm, and a pool of its own at the Play@Sheraton kids’ club.

For long spa days the W Bali is the right fit: the AWAY Spa is open around the clock, and you can use the hammam, hot-stone bath, cold plunge, oxygen room and sauna even without booking a treatment. Outside, the WET pool landscape steps down to the beach in terraces like a rice field. At the Alila Seminyak Bali several infinity pools sit on different levels, plus a family pool; Spa Alila has nine treatment rooms and also offers treatments for children.

On Jimbaran Bay, the Belmond Jimbaran Puri Bali has an infinity pool and a children’s pool. Its beach spa is open-sided, under a Balinese roof overlooking the bay, daily from 10 am to 9 pm; the menu includes Ayurveda with shirodhara and abhyanga, Balinese massages and yoga on the beach.

Prices start at 110 € at the Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort and go up to 448 € at The Legian Seminyak Bali; the other five hotels range from 147 € to 302 € a night.
