What is within reach: Dunn’s River Falls, some 55 metres of limestone terraces climbed in a human chain with a guide; the Blue Hole inland, a cascade of turquoise pools in the forest; and Fern Gully, the gorge road south of town that runs three kilometres through a forest of tree ferns.
For orientation: allow just under two hours by car along the coast to Montego Bay airport, and about the same to Kingston over the mountains. Oracabessa, with Ian Fleming’s Goldeneye and Noël Coward’s Firefly, lies half an hour east.
