Your guide to the best hotels in Miami Beach

Miami Beach is a city of its own on an island of its own, separated from the mainland by Biscayne Bay. Stay here and you stay on the Atlantic rather than in the skyline across the water – that is the whole difference, and it shapes the stay.Delano Miami BeachDelano Miami Beach · South BeachWe list 12 hotels here with a median of 341 € a night – above Miami (264 €), Fort Lauderdale (245 €) and Orlando (238 €).

At no extra cost: booking through suitespot costs the same as booking direct with the hotel – the benefits come on top, free of charge.

12 hotels in Miami Beach – how to choose

The island has two halves, and they lie twenty blocks apart. The Ritz-Carlton South BeachThe Ritz-Carlton South Beach · City CenterSouth Beach, the southern end with the Art Deco facades along Ocean Drive, holds eight addresses: the Delano Miami Beach on Collins Avenue, the Ritz-Carlton South Beach on Lincoln Road, the Setai with categories facing the courtyard and the city, the W South Beach with categories right on the ocean, the Shelborne by Proper, the Lennox, the Marriott Stanton South Beach on Ocean Drive and the goodtime hotel on Washington Avenue. Our recommendation: the Delano.

North of it, in Mid-Beach, everything opens up and quietens down: the Miami Beach EDITION, the Faena Hotel Miami Beach in the Faena District, the Cadillac Hotel Miami Beach and the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, whose categories look out over either the bay or the ocean. Our recommendation: the Cadillac.

Our travel advisors' insider tip

The street number on Collins Avenue tells you which Miami Beach you are getting.

That is not a figure of speech; you can read it off our own addresses. The Delano sits at 1685, the Shelborne at 1801, the Lennox at 1900, the Setai at 2001, the W South Beach at 2201 – all South Beach, all walkable, Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive at the door.

From 2900 onwards the other island begins: the EDITION at 2901, the Faena at 3201, the Cadillac at 3925, the Fontainebleau at 4441. These are the large plots – bigger pools, a wider stretch of sand, and evenings you either drive to or stay in for.

Which gives you a simple rule: book below 2500 for evenings on foot, above it for days by the pool. And the range allows for both: the selection starts at 126 € at the goodtime hotel and 179 € at the Cadillac, with a median of 341 €.

In 11 of the 12 addresses the suitespot benefits apply from the first night; only at the Lennox from the second.

Where to stay in Miami Beach: South Beach or Mid-Beach

Miami Beach is an island two kilometres wide and a good ten long – twenty to forty minutes from the airport across the causeway, depending on traffic. The Setai Miami BeachThe Setai Miami Beach · City CentreStay in South Beach if the evening should happen on foot: the Art Deco row along Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road as a pedestrian spine, the Bass Museum, Espanola Way. Our recommendation: the Delano Miami Beach, for us the first address on the island.

Stay in Mid-Beach if the day should happen by the water: the boardwalk running north, wide stretches of sand, pools with room. Our recommendation: the Cadillac Hotel Miami Beach.

For orientation: downtown Miami and the Design District are fifteen to twenty-five minutes over the MacArthur Causeway, Key Biscayne half an hour, the Everglades a little over one.

Rooms, suites and penthotels in Miami Beach

On this island you eat early by the water and late in town.Cadillac Hotel Miami BeachCadillac Hotel Miami Beach · Mid-BeachThe hotel kitchens carry a good part of that: at the Ritz-Carlton South Beach the breakfast credit of 70 US dollars applies in the hotel's own restaurant – the highest figure on the island. At the Faena and the EDITION it is 50 US dollars, at the Fontainebleau 48, at the Shelborne 35 and at the Delano 30.

At the Setai and the Cadillac the buffet breakfast is included instead, at the W South Beach and the Marriott Stanton breakfast for two, and at the Lennox and the goodtime hotel a continental breakfast.

For the evening it is worth crossing the bay: the Design District for the city's kitchens, Little Havana for Cuban food – and on the island itself the row behind Collins Avenue, where the restaurants locals use are.

What a stay in Miami Beach costs

The median is 341 € a night. The selection starts at 126 € at the goodtime hotel and runs to 707 € at the Faena.

Below the median sit the Cadillac from 179 € and the Marriott Stanton and the Lennox from 199 € each; above it the W South Beach from 589 € and the EDITION from 519 €.

Against the neighbours: Miami sits at 264 €, Fort Lauderdale at 245 € and Orlando at 238 €. You pay a premium for the island – and get the beach at the door instead of a drive to it.

It costs less between May and November, when the ocean is at its warmest and the evenings are long. Book early for Art Basel in December, the boat show in February, Easter and the weeks around New Year – those are the most sought-after nights of the year.

And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in the quietest week of the year just as you do in the busiest.

Dining, art and exclusive services

What separates this island from the city across the water is the density: art, architecture and water sit side by side within two kilometres.

Worth seeing are the Art Deco district with its eight hundred-odd buildings, the Bass Museum, the Faena District with its commissioned works, the boardwalk running north at sunrise, and the sandbar off Haulover you reach by boat.

For a day trip: Key Biscayne with the lighthotel at Cape Florida, the Everglades by airboat, or the drive south towards Key Largo.

Alongside breakfast, an upgrade where available and late check-out, six of the 12 hotels add a freely usable credit of 100 US dollars – the Delano, the Ritz-Carlton South Beach, the Cadillac, the Faena and the Fontainebleau; at the Shelborne it applies to selected rates. At the EDITION a credit of the same size applies.

At the Setai and the W South Beach a credit of 100 US dollars applies to the spa, and at the Lennox it is 50 US dollars. We register your VIP status before you arrive.
