The hotels in Punta Cana differ less in standard than in location and character. Which address suits which trip is something our travel advisors settle in a conversation – the table is the starting point. Prices shown are entry rates and may include limited-time promotional rates. At the top of our recommendation: the The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort.

The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort · Cap CanaWe list 11 hotels here, with a typical rate of 333 € a night – below Montego Bay (494 €) and well above Santo Domingo (159 €).The selection spreads along that coast.
Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana · Cap CanaIn Cap Cana, the gated development in the south with its marina, stand The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort, the Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana with categories right on the sea, the Eden Roc at Cap Cana and the Sanctuary Cap Cana – the only hotel on this coast with a category named after the Caribbean.
Further north, on the beaches of Bávaro and the bays before them, follow the Paradisus Palma Real, the Paradisus Grand Cana with rooms facing the garden or the pool and the Zoëtry Agua.
On the Punta Cana headland itself are the Tortuga Bay Hotel, The Westin Puntacana Resort and the W Punta Cana with categories facing the greenery.
And in Miches, a good hour to the northwest on a bay of its own, stands the Zemi Miches.
Punta Cana is not an address, it is a coast.
That sounds like a technicality and it decides what your holiday looks like. In our record, six different places sit under the same name: Cap Cana, Bávaro, Playa Bibijagua, Puerto Sabaneta, the Punta Cana headland itself – and Miches.
Miches is the point where a closer look pays off: it lies a good hour to the northwest, on a different bay, with mountains behind it instead of flat land. The Zemi Miches stands there – and it makes for a different holiday from the one in Cap Cana; not better or worse, but different.
From which follows a practical rule: ask about the stretch, not the place. Cap Cana for the marina, the golf and the gate; Bávaro for the long beach and short walks between hotels; the headland for the classic hotels; Miches for the bay and the mountains.
A second clue sits in the category names. For the same water there are six different words here: ocean, oceanfront, beach, beachfront, sea and tropical. They tell you little – with one exception: the Sanctuary Cap Cana is the only hotel that calls the Caribbean by its name.
And one more number that is typical of this coast: of the 256 categories in our selection, 152 are suites – almost six in ten. Here the suite is not the exception but the rule.
For planning: at all 11 hotels the suitespot benefits apply from the first night – without a single exception.
From Punta Cana airport most hotels are twenty minutes away; Miches takes a good hour.
Paradisus Palma Real · BávaroCap Cana is the answer for quiet behind the gate: a large enclosed development with a marina, golf courses on the cliffs and Juanillo Beach, among the finest on the island. Our recommendation: The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort – for us the first address on this coast.
Bávaro is the answer for the long beach: the sand runs for kilometres, the hotels stand close together, and in the evening you walk from one to the next. Our recommendation: the Paradisus Palma Real.
The Punta Cana headland is the answer for the classic hotels: this is where the place began, the airport is next door, and the beach is lined with coconut palms planted sixty years ago. Our recommendation: the Tortuga Bay Hotel.
And Miches is the answer for a different landscape: a bay with mountains behind it, fewer hotels, and nearby the Montaña Redonda, a round hill from which you see the sea and the lagoon at once. Our recommendation: the Zemi Miches.
For orientation: the boat to Saona Island takes half a day, Altos de Chavón an hour and a half, and the Hoyo Azul cave with its turquoise water lies in the Scape Park at Cap Cana.
Our selection covers 256 categories, 152 of them suites – almost six in ten, the highest share we have measured in this series.
Paradisus Grand Cana Punta Cana · Playa BibijaguaThe largest unit appears at the Tortuga Bay Hotel: a villa of 537 square metres. Then come three at the Sanctuary Cap Cana at 511, 480 and 400 square metres.
The widest choice belongs to the Zemi Miches with 36 categories, the W Punta Cana with 30 and The Westin Puntacana with 20.
On the view, this coast uses six different words for the same water. Categories face the ocean at seven hotels, sit right on the water at four, and face the beach at the Westin and the Zemi Miches.
More telling are the names that appear only once: the Sanctuary Cap Cana names rooms after the Caribbean, the Westin alone after the sea, and the Paradisus Grand Cana has a category facing the garden or the pool. The Zemi Miches and the W Punta Cana name rooms facing the greenery.
Tell our travel advisors what you would like to look at – and which stretch of coast.

When it is at its best: from December to April, when it is dry, the air is mild and the sea calm – and from January to March the humpback whales pass the Samaná peninsula, a day trip away.
When it is good value: from May to November. Those are the months with the lowest prices and the warmest water: the rain mostly comes as a short heavy afternoon shower after which the evening opens up again, the vegetation stands thick, and it is mango season.
When to book early: between Christmas and New Year, at Easter and through the winter months, when half of North America is here. If you are coming then, reserve several months ahead.
And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in August just as you do in February.
How long to stay: seven nights. Getting here costs two half days – under a week, less beach is left than the paperwork suggests.
At all 11 hotels they apply from the first night – without a single exception.
You earn points and status at 8 of the 11 hotels, across 4 programmes. The most common is Marriott Bonvoy.
What our travel advisors arrange most often in Punta Cana is the day on the water: the boat to Saona Island, which stops halfway at a sandbank that sits in the middle of the sea and is knee-deep – with starfish standing in the clear water.
Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comBeyond that: the Hoyo Azul, a turquoise limestone pool at the foot of a cliff in the Scape Park; the Montaña Redonda near Miches, a round hill with a view of sea and lagoon at once; and Altos de Chavón, a stone village built in the 1970s above the Chavón river, now home to an art school and an amphitheatre.
For an afternoon: a cacao or coffee estate inland – or an hour of merengue, since there is music playing everywhere in this country anyway.
At five of the 11 hotels a freely usable credit of 100 US dollars comes on top: at the St. Regis Cap Cana, the Paradisus Grand Cana, the Zoëtry Agua, the Zemi Miches and the Sanctuary Cap Cana. At the Paradisus Grand Cana, selected suites booked for two nights bring another 100 US dollars. At the Eden Roc at Cap Cana 100 US dollars for food and drink apply.
For the spa it applies twice over: at the W Punta Cana it is 100 US dollars, and at The Westin Puntacana 50 US dollars for a treatment of fifty minutes or more, once per person per stay – with another 100 US dollars for the spa on selected suites from two nights. We register your VIP status before you arrive.
If you collect points across several programs, you have a choice in Punta Cana. In every case the rate is a direct one, points and elite nights keep accruing, and the suitespot benefits come on top. The most widely represented is Marriott Bonvoy.
At no extra cost: you pay the same rate as booking direct with the hotel – the suitespot benefits come on top, free of charge.

In Cap Cana for the marina, the golf and the gate – our recommendation is The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort, for us the first address on this coast. In Bávaro for the long beach (recommendation: Paradisus Palma Real). On the Punta Cana headland for the classic hotels (recommendation: Tortuga Bay Hotel). And in Miches, a good hour to the northwest, for the bay and the mountains (recommendation: Zemi Miches).
Categories right on the water exist at four hotels, and categories facing the ocean at seven. The Westin is the only one with a category facing the sea, and rooms face the greenery at the Zemi Miches and the W Punta Cana.
