Masai Mara – small and private: For couples we recommend the Olare Mara Kempinski Masai Mara, with just 12 tents in Edwardian safari style along a shaded stream. Mahali Mzuri also has 12 tents: Richard Branson’s camp sits on a ridge above the plains of the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, which limits the number of beds. In the far south, close to the border with Tanzania, The Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara lies on the Sand River.
Before your bush flight: Karen rather than downtown
Safari flights usually leave from Wilson Airport. From the Hemingways Nairobi in Karen you reach it in 20 to 30 minutes. The flight from Wilson to the Fairmont Mara Safari Club takes around an hour, and the Ngerende airstrip is about ten minutes from the camp.
