The Maybourne Riviera: our hand-picked 5-star hotel in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. Every suitespot booking comes with free breakfast for 2, a room upgrade subject to availability, hotel credit and VIP service – benefits worth over €500.
The Maybourne Riviera · RicardFor this guide we reviewed the best hotels in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and chose one: a luxury hotel on the rock above the principality – with 24 categories, nearly all of them facing the sea. What that means for booking is below. Our choice for Roquebrune-Cap-Martin is The Maybourne Riviera on the Route de la Turbie, on the spur of rock above Monaco. In our ranking it stands at 4.6 out of 5, and a night starts at 500 euros. The hotel is independently run.
Why we recommend it: Because it is the hotel that shows the Riviera from above: opened at the end of 2021, a building by Jean-Michel Wilmotte on the rock three hundred metres above the water, with 65 suites and studios, all with a balcony to the sea. The infinity pool seems to float above the Mediterranean, Riviera serves breakfast above the bay, abc kitchens riviera cooks with Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and down on the water the beach club La Môme Riviera belongs to it, as does the shuttle to Monaco. Our recommended category is called Panoramic Sea View.
24 categories, nearly all with a sea view.
The sizes: 40 square metres in the Studio, 45 in the Grand Room, 60 in the second Studio and in the Suite, 65 in the second Grand Room, 80 and 95 in two Suites – all seven with a sea view – and two Surrenne Suites at 45 and 114. Fifteen more categories complete the list: Duplex, Panoramic (twice), Maybourne, Horizon, Azur, the two Infinity Pool Suites and the Blue Suite among them. 24 categories, 19 suites – and according to the hotel, all of them have a sea view.
Our recommended category Panoramic Sea View corresponds to the Panoramic Suite. It comes twice, both facing the sea. Anyone booking it tells our travel advisors “Panoramic Suite”; anyone wanting a fixed size takes the Grand Room at 45 or 65 or the Suite at 80 – all with sea.
Then the package, and here reading pays: breakfast at the restaurant Riviera, 100 US dollars of credit, not redeemable at Riviera Playa, upgrade on arrival, early check-in and late check-out, welcome gift. The hotel is independently run.
And the season: the hotel reopens in spring, and some restaurants run only from mid-June to mid-October. Anyone asking in winter asks our travel advisors for the state of things.
Our advice: Book a category with a known size and let the upgrade bring the Panoramic. With 65 suites and so many sea-view categories the upgrade on arrival lands almost certainly on the sea – the only question is the size. And put the credit into Riviera or the bar, not onto the beach.
The Maybourne Riviera stands at 1551 Route de la Turbie in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, on the spur of rock above the border with Monaco – two kilometres from the village of Roquebrune, three from Monte-Carlo, five from Menton and a good thirty road kilometres from Nice airport.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone wanting Monaco without sleeping in Monaco – and for anyone who prefers to see the Riviera from above rather than from the promenade.
What lies within reach: Monte-Carlo with the casino and the harbour, ten minutes by the hotel’s shuttle; the village of Roquebrune with the 10th-century castle and the thousand-year-old olive tree, five minutes; and the coastal path on Cap Martin, leading to Le Corbusier’s cabanon and on to Menton, down on the water.
For orientation: Nice airport is three-quarters of an hour away, seven minutes by helicopter to Monaco; Menton and the Italian border a quarter of an hour, Nice half an hour. On the Riviera one drives – or is driven; the hotel provides the car to Monaco.
The Maybourne Riviera offers 24 categories, 19 of them suites.
The rooms: 40 and 60 square metres in the Studios, 45 and 65 in the Grand Rooms, all to the sea; plus a Room to the sea.
The suites: 60, 80 and 95 in three Suites to the sea, 45 and 114 in the two Surrenne Suites – plus the Duplex, the Panoramic (twice, our recommended category), the Maybourne, the Horizon and the Azur (twice each) to the sea, as well as the two Infinity Pool Suites and the Blue Suite.
On the view: this hotel’s motif is the Mediterranean with Monaco and Cap Martin – 19 of the 24 categories expressly face it.
What applies equally to every category: breakfast for two at Riviera, 100 US dollars of hotel credit outside Riviera Playa, the upgrade on arrival subject to availability, early check-in and late check-out subject to availability and a welcome gift.
A night at the luxury hotel in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin starts at 500 euros.
The suitespot benefits apply here from the first night. Included are: breakfast for two at Riviera, 100 US dollars of hotel credit outside Riviera Playa, an upgrade on arrival subject to availability, early check-in and late check-out and a welcome gift.
When it is loveliest: from April to June and in September and October, when the sea is warm and the coast road clear.
What belongs to the Riviera: the Grand Prix. One weekend at the end of May, and Monaco is closed off, prices double, and the hotel on the rock is the grandstand at a distance. That is not a warning but the calendar: anyone coming then comes for it. And the season: the hotel opens in spring, and some restaurants run only from mid-June to mid-October – our travel advisors give you the current position.
When to ask early: for the Grand Prix, for the Yacht Show in September and in August – and for the Infinity Pool Suites in any case.
How long to stay: two nights for Monaco, village and coastal path – three if Menton and Èze are added.
And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in the quietest week of the year just as you do in the busiest.
The Riviera between Nice and the Italian border is the strip where the Alps fall into the sea: three corniches one above the other, villages on rocks, Monaco between them like a quarry of glass. Roquebrune-Cap-Martin is the last cape before Menton, and from its rock one sees both.

First the Cabanon: the cabin of 3.66 by 3.66 metres that Le Corbusier built on the cape in 1952, and the coastal path that bears his name. Second Menton: the city of lemons with the Lemon Festival in February, the old town in ochre and the Cocteau museum, a quarter of an hour. Third Èze: the village on the pinnacle with the exotic garden, 429 metres above the sea, half an hour along the Moyenne Corniche.
The package at this hotel is breakfast, credit, upgrade, check-in and check-out and gift.
What our travel advisors arrange most often: the right sea-view category, the table at abc kitchens and the helicopter from Nice – because seven minutes above the bay is the right beginning for a hotel above the bay.
