Your guide to the best luxury hotel in Turin

Turin is the city that invented Italy and does not say so loudly: the first capital of the kingdom, the residences of the House of Savoy, the arcades under which one walks eighteen kilometres dry, the Egyptian Museum that is the largest after Cairo – and behind everything, on clear days, the Alps as a backdrop at the end of every street.Principi di Piemonte TorinoPrincipi di Piemonte Torino · City centerFor this guide we reviewed the best hotels in Turin and chose one: a luxury hotel from the 1930s in the centre – with a list in which five categories share the same size. What that means for booking is below.

At no extra cost: booking through suitespot costs the same as booking direct with the hotel – the benefits come on top, free of charge.

One luxury hotel in Turin – and who it suits

Our choice for Turin is the Principi di Piemonte Torino in the city centre, a few steps from Piazza San Carlo. In our ranking it stands at 4.8 out of 5, and a night starts at 194 euros. The hotel belongs to the L.V.X. Collection of Preferred Hotels and to their I Prefer programme.

Why we recommend it: Because it is the hotel Turin built for itself in the 1930s: erected 1935 to 1936 to plans by Vittorio Bonadè Bottino and Giovanni Chevalley, a tower from the era of rationalism in the middle of the centre, around a hundred rooms and suites looking over the city and the Alps. Add a wellness area with a heated indoor pool – in a city where hardly any hotel in the centre has one –, the Alkemy Spa and a gourmet restaurant. The Museo Egizio, Porta Nuova station and Piazza Castello all lie under a kilometre away. Our recommended category is called Deluxe View.

Our travel advisors’ insider tip

Five categories at 30 square metres – and four suites at 40.

The list: 30 square metres in the Superior, the Deluxe (twice) and the Deluxe View (twice) – five categories, one size. Then 40 in four suites, two of them with a view; 50 in a further suite with a view, 65 in the Executive Suite, 75 in the Diplomatic Suite and 135 in the Presidential Suite facing the city.

What that means: between Superior, Deluxe and Deluxe View there is not one square metre of difference. What separates the levels is the view – and the question of where it looks. With around a hundred rooms in a tower that looks at city and Alps, that is the one question to ask before booking.

Our recommendation Deluxe View is the category with a view at 30 square metres – and anyone booking it tells our travel advisors whether Alps or city is meant. Anyone wanting space skips the five room categories and takes a suite at 40 with a view – ten square metres more for the jump into the suite class.

The package: breakfast, 100 US dollars credit, upgrade on arrival, points and status with I Prefer, early check-in and late check-out, welcome gift and the assurance that a single night can be booked.

Our advice: Book the category with a view, and say which side. With five categories of equal size, the window decides, not the level.

Where to stay in Turin: in the centre, between Porta Nuova and Piazza Castello

The Principi di Piemonte Torino stands in the city centre of Turin – four hundred metres from the Museo Egizio, five hundred from Porta Nuova station, seven hundred from Piazza Castello and 15 kilometres from Caselle airport.

Our recommendation is therefore for anyone wanting Turin on foot – and for those arriving by train who roll the suitcase five minutes instead of taking a taxi.

What lies within reach: Piazza San Carlo with the twin churches and Caffè Torino, a few steps; the Museo Egizio, four hundred metres; the Palazzo Reale and Piazza Castello, seven hundred metres; the Mole Antonelliana with the cinema museum, a kilometre and a half.

For orientation: Caselle airport is half an hour away, Porta Nuova with the fast trains to Milan, Rome and Paris five minutes on foot. The Reggia di Venaria is half an hour, the Lingotto with the test track on the roof a quarter of an hour by metro. In the centre one walks under arcades.

14 categories: the best hotel in Turin from the inside

The Principi di Piemonte Torino offers 14 categories, nine suites among them.

The rooms: 30 square metres in the Superior, the Deluxe (twice) and the Deluxe View (twice) – the last two are our recommended category, with a view.

The suites: 40 in four suites, two of them with a view, 50 in a suite with a view, 65 in the Executive Suite, 75 in the Diplomatic Suite and 135 in the Presidential Suite facing the city.

On the view: this hotel’s motif is the Alps behind the city, which a tower in the centre shows from its upper floors – five categories carry View in their name, and the Presidential Suite looks out over the city.

What applies equally to every category: breakfast for two, 100 US dollars credit per stay, the upgrade on arrival subject to availability, points and status benefits with I Prefer, early check-in and late check-out subject to availability and a welcome gift.

What a night at the luxury hotel in Turin costs

A night at the luxury hotel in Turin starts at 194 euros.

There is expressly no minimum stay: a single night can be booked. Included are: breakfast for two, 100 US dollars credit, an upgrade on arrival subject to availability, points and status with I Prefer, early check-in and late check-out and a welcome gift.

When it is loveliest: from April to June and from September to October, when the Alps stand at the end of the streets and the arcades keep off shade rather than rain.

What belongs to Turin: August. Around Ferragosto many shops and trattorias close, the city belongs to the museums and the travellers – anyone coming then has the Museo Egizio without a queue. That is not a warning but the calendar.

When to ask early: for the big fairs and sporting events in autumn, for the truffle season in Alba in October and November – an hour away – and at Easter.

How long to stay: two nights for museum, palazzo and Mole – three if Venaria and the Langhe are added.

And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in the quietest week of the year just as you do in the busiest.

Around a hundred rooms, an indoor pool and exclusive services in a 5-star hotel

Piedmont is the region that gave Italy vermouth, Barolo and the white truffle – and Turin the city that serves all of it in cafés under arcades, ever since the House of Savoy resided here.

Three things belong to it. First the Museo Egizio: the oldest collection of Egyptian art in the world, founded in 1824, four hundred metres from the hotel. Second the Reggia di Venaria: the baroque summer residence of the Savoys outside the city, a World Heritage site, half an hour. Third the Langhe: Alba, Barolo and the vineyards that smell of truffle in autumn, an hour by car.

The package at this hotel is breakfast, credit, upgrade, points, check-in and check-out and gift.

What our travel advisors arrange most often: the side of the room, for the reason stated above, the table at the gourmet restaurant and the day in the Langhe with a driver – because after lunch in Barolo someone else had better drive back.
