Our recommendation is therefore for anyone wanting Mont Blanc from the village rather than from the town – and for families who prefer a chalet with a hotel beside it to a hotel alone.
What lies within reach: the baroque church of Saint-Nicolas with the museum of sacred art, in the village; the chairlift into the Evasion Mont-Blanc, a hundred metres; and the Tramway du Mont-Blanc, the rack railway from Saint-Gervais to the Nid d’Aigle at 2,372 metres, down in the valley.
For orientation: Geneva airport is a good hour away, Chamonix with the Aiguille du Midi half an hour, Megève a quarter of an hour. Saint-Gervais-le Fayet station has TGV connections to Paris. In the village one walks; in winter one skis.
