Where to stay in Puerto de la Cruz: in El Tope, by the Botanical Garden
For travelers, Puerto de la Cruz opens up in three directions.
The town and the coast: the old town and the old fishing harbor lie around the Plaza del Charco. At the Lago Martiánez, César Manrique set seawater pools, islands and sculptures right against the surf, and the black-sand Playa Jardín also bears his signature. On the western edge of town is the Loro Parque.
Up the valley: through the Orotava Valley with its banana terraces and vineyards you reach La Orotava, with its old town and carved wooden balconies, and above it Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of lava fields, crater basin and cable car.
Along the north coast: to the west lies Garachico with its lava rock pools, to the northeast the Anaga Mountains with laurel forest and hiking trails, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Our recommendation: the Hotel Botánico Tenerife as your base for all three – the old town on foot, Teide and the coast as day trips, and the spa’s thermal area in the evening. For the north, Tenerife North airport is the closer of the island’s two airports.
Suites, penthouses and Atlantic views: the best hotel in Puerto de la Cruz from the inside

The suites have names of their own, from the Junior Ambassador Suite to the Ambassador Superior Suite and the Senator Suite to the Thailand Suite and the Jackson Suite.
Among the largest units are a suite of 580 square meters with an Atlantic view and a suite of 200 square meters. Another suite measures 68 to 88 square meters, the Junior Ambassador Suite 44 to 61. Two of the penthouses with a mountain view have 42 square meters each, the Deluxe Room 35.
For couples, the Junior Ambassador Suite with a sea or garden view is the natural choice; for longer stays, one of the large suites.
