It was designed by Sitaram Khanderao Vaidya and D. N. Mirza and completed by W. A. Chambers; the Tower wing was designed by Daraius Batliwala and Rustom Patell.
The name tells a story too: the Taj Mahal Hotel became the Taj Mahal Inter-Continental in 1972, the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower in 2003 and The Taj Mahal Palace in March 2010. After the attacks of November 2008, the damaged Heritage Wing was painstakingly restored.
