The Sense Experience Resort · StadtmitteEvery booking through suitespot comes with a comprehensive package of suitespot benefits:The word most people use for Tuscany is resort, and it fits: outside Florence, the typical property here is an estate rather than a hotel – a walled borgo, a converted monastery or a working winery, usually with its own restaurant, pool and several hundred hectares around it. Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco and Castello Banfi Il Borgo in Montalcino, Belmond Castello di Casole, Relais Borgo Santo Pietro near Chiusdino and Hotel Borgo San Felice in Chianti are all of that type.
In Florence the pattern is the opposite – historic palazzi on tight city streets: The St. Regis and the Hotel Helvetia & Bristol, J.K. Place and the Grand Hotel Minerva on Piazza Santa Maria Novella, Palazzo Portinari Salviati and Palazzo Vecchietti. And on the coast a third type again: Hotel Il Pellicano and LA ROQQA at Porto Ercole, L'Andana at Castiglione della Pescaia, Principe Forte dei Marmi on the Versilia. Which of the three you choose matters more than the star rating.
Three appellations account for most of what people picture when they think of a Tuscan wine estate, and our selection is spread across all three.
W Florence · Santa Maria NovellaChianti Classico, between Florence and Siena, is the closest to both cities and the easiest first trip: COMO Castello Del Nero at Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (from about EUR 694), Hotel Borgo San Felice and Castel Monastero at Castelnuovo Berardenga (EUR 555 and EUR 510) and Castello di Spaltenna at Gaiole in Chianti (EUR 360). Roughly an hour from Florence by car.Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comMontalcino, the Brunello appellation in the Val d'Orcia, is where the two estates with their own working vineyard sit: Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco (from about EUR 633) and Castello Banfi Il Borgo (EUR 710). Ninety minutes to two hours from Florence, and the landscape people fly in for.
Montepulciano, home of Vino Nobile, is the quieter option – Precise Tale Poggio alla Sala looks across to the hill town from the Chiusi side (EUR 370), and La Bandita Townhouse sits inside the walls of nearby Pienza (EUR 395). Add Relais Borgo Santo Pietro near Chiusdino (EUR 855) and Belmond Castello di Casole between Siena and Volterra (EUR 1,011) for estates that are not in an appellation but have the same character.
Tastings in Montalcino and Chianti Classico are the single thing we are asked to arrange most often in Tuscany – and the estates that matter take bookings weeks ahead in season. The same applies to timed entry for the Uffizi in Florence. Tell us your dates when you book the room, not when you arrive: at that point the good slots are gone, and no concierge can conjure them back.
A ranking of 78 properties would be worthless, because they answer completely different trips. These are the three questions that actually decide it.
The St. Regis Florence · Santa Maria NovellaNote one thing we cannot offer you: a reliable star-by-star comparison. Only two of the 78 properties on this page carry a reisetopia review, so anyone presenting you with a scored ranking of Tuscan resorts has made it up.
The estates are genuinely remote. Relais Borgo Santo Pietro, Castello Banfi Il Borgo, Hotel Lupaia and Viesca Toscana are kilometres from the nearest village on unmade roads, and dinner happens where you sleep. If that sounds like the point, they are the right answer; if you would rather walk out to a piazza in the evening, look at La Bandita Townhouse inside Pienza, the Grand Hotel Continental on Siena's Banchi di Sopra or Albergo Pietrasanta in the Versilia.
This is where Tuscany differs sharply from a city. 28 of the 71 Tuscan properties take part in no loyalty programme at all – including Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, Castello Banfi Il Borgo, Hotel Borgo San Felice and Belmond Villa San Michele. If elite nights matter to you, the properties to look at are the Leaders Club houses (22 of them in Tuscany, including Hotel Il Pellicano, COMO Castello Del Nero, L'Andana and Castel Monastero) and the ten Marriott Bonvoy properties such as The St. Regis and the W Florence.
None of the 78 properties on this page operates on an all-inclusive basis – Tuscany eats out, and even the estates with their own restaurant charge for it separately. What you do get on every suitespot booking is breakfast for two, a possible upgrade and up to USD 100 of hotel credit, which at an estate with only one restaurant covers a substantial part of an evening. Our advisors confirm before you book where the credit can be used.
We say so plainly, because it shows on a map. Seven of the properties listed here are, strictly speaking, in neighbouring regions; they have always been part of the selection because they combine well with a Tuscan itinerary.
Castel Monastero · Castelnuovo BerardengaIn Umbria, east of the regional border: Castello di Reschio near Lisciano Niccone – at about EUR 1,395 the highest entry-level rate on this page, and the reason the Tuscan figures above stop at EUR 1,100 – plus Vocabolo Moscatelli near Umbertide (EUR 379), Park Hotel Ai Cappuccini in Gubbio (from about EUR 228) and I Borghi dell'Eremo at Piegaro (EUR 240) – one to two hours by car from Siena. In Emilia-Romagna: the Grand Hotel Majestic in Bologna and Relais Roncolo 1888 near Quattro Castella. In Liguria: the Grand Hotel Portovenere on the bay of Porto Venere, which is the practical base for the Cinque Terre rather than for Florence.
None of them is worse for it. But if the plan is Florence, Siena and Chianti, they sit outside the comfortable radius – and our advisors will tell you the real driving time rather than the optimistic one.
Two of our Tuscan properties are built on thermal springs rather than merely equipped with a spa: Terme di Saturnia Resort at Manciano in the Maremma and Grotta Giusti Thermal Spa Resort at Monsummano Terme near Montecatini, where the spa occupies a natural cave. Among the estates, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, COMO Castello Del Nero, Relais Borgo Santo Pietro and Castel Monastero have their own spa areas.
On price, the Tuscan properties span roughly a factor of eight from the cheapest to the dearest. At the top: Pensione America at Forte dei Marmi (about EUR 1,100), Belmond Villa San Michele in Fiesole (EUR 1,039), Belmond Castello di Casole (EUR 1,011) and Collegio alla Querce in Florence (EUR 826). At the other end, and by a wide margin: Hotel Indigo Florence (EUR 149), L'Orologio in Florence (EUR 159), Locanda Rossa at Capalbio (EUR 160) and the Hotel Plaza e de Russie in Viareggio (EUR 181).
One seasonal note worth planning around: in the countryside rates peak in May, June and September and soften in high summer, when the inland heat puts people off. On the coast it is exactly the other way round.
Tuscany is bigger than it looks on a map: Florence to the Maremma coast is a two-hour drive, Florence to Montalcino about ninety minutes, Florence into Chianti a little under an hour.Personal luxury travel adviceOur travel advisors personally accompany your booking – 365 days a year, from the first offer to late check-out. Reach the suitespot VIP service via email or WhatsApp.Phone: +49 30 81452346 · hotel@suitespot.comThe practical consequence is a car. In the countryside there is no useful alternative – the estates sit kilometres from the nearest village. In Florence the opposite applies: the historic centre is a restricted traffic zone, hotel parking is charged separately, and a car is a liability. The combination that works best over a week is three nights in Florence without one, then picking it up on the way out to the estate.
As a suitespot guest you travel with VIP status: our travel advisors register your preferences with the property before you arrive – in the countryside that means the room's orientation, valley or courtyard, and in Florence the registration number of your hire car for the restricted zone. Tastings, drivers for the days you would rather not drive, cooking classes on the estates and Uffizi slots are all arranged in advance rather than at the desk.
suitespot rates are genuine direct rates: you keep earning regular points and elite nights in the hotel's loyalty program and retain your status benefits – on top of your suitespot benefits. These programs are represented in Tuscany:
| Program | Hotels | Examples in Tuscany |
|---|---|---|
| Leaders Club | 23 hotels | Castel Monastero, Villa la Massa Florence, Hotel Helvetia & Bristol Florence … |
| Marriott Bonvoy | 10 hotels | W Florence, The St. Regis Florence, La Bandita Townhouse Pienza … |
| I Prefer | 7 hotels | The Sense Experience Resort, Locanda Rossa, Marina di Scarlino Resort … |
| GHA Discovery | 1 hotel | Tivoli Palazzo Gaddi Florence |
| IHG One Rewards | 1 hotel | Hotel Indigo Florence |
| SLH Invited | 1 hotel | Hotel Byron Forte dei Marmi |
| World of Hyatt | 1 hotel | IL Tornabuoni Hotel Florence |
Entry-level rates across our 71 Tuscan properties currently run from about EUR 149 per night to roughly EUR 1,100, depending on season, room category and availability, with a median of around EUR 360. The most affordable entry points are Hotel Indigo Florence (EUR 149), L'Orologio in Florence (EUR 159) and Locanda Rossa at Capalbio (EUR 160). One property on this page is dearer than any Tuscan house – the Castello di Reschio at about EUR 1,395 – but it stands in Umbria. You always book direct rates through suitespot, and the benefits worth over EUR 500 (breakfast, upgrade chance, hotel credit) come on top.
In Chianti Classico, between Florence and Siena: COMO Castello Del Nero at Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, Hotel Borgo San Felice and Castel Monastero at Castelnuovo Berardenga and Castello di Spaltenna at Gaiole. In Montalcino, the Brunello appellation, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco and Castello Banfi Il Borgo – both with a working vineyard on the estate. Above Montepulciano, home of Vino Nobile, Precise Tale Poggio alla Sala. Our advisors arrange the tastings before you arrive, which in season is the only way to get into the estates that matter.
Yes. suitespot rates are genuine direct rates: you earn regular points and elite nights in the respective programme – in Tuscany chiefly the Leaders Club (22 properties), Marriott Bonvoy (10) and iPrefer (7), with individual houses in GHA Discovery, World of Hyatt, IHG Rewards and SLH Invited. Worth knowing before you plan around status: 28 of the 71 Tuscan properties take part in no loyalty programme, among them Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, Castello Banfi Il Borgo and Belmond Villa San Michele. There the suitespot benefits are the whole of what comes on top of the rate.
It depends on the trip. Florence if you are here for the art and would rather not drive – 24 of our properties are in the city. The countryside between Florence and Siena for landscape, vineyards and a pool, where a car is unavoidable. The coast – the Maremma in the south, the Versilia in the north – if the plan includes a beach. Over a week the combination that works best is three nights in Florence without a car, then four on an estate in Chianti or the Val d'Orcia.
No, and we flag it rather than hide it: seven are in neighbouring regions. In Umbria, the Castello di Reschio near Lisciano Niccone – the dearest property on the whole page – Vocabolo Moscatelli near Umbertide, Park Hotel Ai Cappuccini in Gubbio and I Borghi dell'Eremo at Piegaro; in Emilia-Romagna, the Grand Hotel Majestic in Bologna and Relais Roncolo 1888; in Liguria, the Grand Hotel Portovenere. They are part of the selection because they combine well with a Tuscan itinerary, but from Siena or Florence they are one to two hours by car.
No. We checked every property on this page against the all-inclusive benefit in our rates, and none of the 78 carries it – including the large estates. Tuscany is a region where you eat out, and even properties with their own restaurant charge for meals separately. What every suitespot booking does include is breakfast for two and up to USD 100 of hotel credit per stay, which at a remote estate with a single restaurant covers a good part of one dinner. If full board genuinely matters to you, say so when enquiring and our advisors will ask the property what half- or full-board arrangements it can quote.
Two are built directly on thermal springs: Terme di Saturnia Resort at Manciano in the Maremma, and Grotta Giusti Thermal Spa Resort at Monsummano Terme, where the spa occupies a natural cave. Among the estates with their own spa are Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, COMO Castello Del Nero, Relais Borgo Santo Pietro and Castel Monastero. Because facilities and opening hours change, our advisors confirm the current position before you book.
In the countryside, without exception – the estates are kilometres from the nearest village and there is no useful public transport. In Florence the opposite is true: the historic centre is a restricted traffic zone and hotel parking is charged separately, so a car there costs money and causes trouble. Pick it up when you leave the city rather than when you land.
Booking through suitespot also gives you benefits such as complimentary breakfast and a possible room upgrade, and we register your hire car with the Florentine hotel before you arrive.
