Our choice for Montreux is the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace on Avenue Claude-Nobs, on the shore of Lake Geneva. In our ranking it stands at 4.8 out of 5, and a night starts at 288 euros. The hotel belongs to the ALL (Accor) programme.
Why we recommend it: Because it is the palace the town is modelled on: opened on 19 March 1906, built in eighteen months by the architect Eugène Jost, with 236 rooms, 51 of them suites, six bars and restaurants – among them the Montreux Jazz Café with Claude Nobs’ memorabilia – and the Willow Stream Spa of 2,000 square metres with two pools. Up to spring 2026 it was renovated in three phases, 130 lake rooms and the whole lake façade. Our recommended category is called Queen Fairmont.

The recommended category of this hotel is the smallest – and it exists three times, with three different windows.
The rooms start at 20 square metres in the Fairmont Room – once with a lake view, once facing the town, once as a Twin. Then 30 in the Deluxe and the Superior, 35 in the Signature, 45 in the Signature Suite, 60 in the Panorama Suite and 120 in the Quincy Jones Suite – all to the lake. Five more categories complete the choice, among them the Presidential Suite and the Penthouse.
That means: our recommended Queen Fairmont is the entry point at 20 square metres, and here the lake costs not one square metre more. Between the 20 facing the town and the 20 facing the lake lies only the view. Anyone booking the recommendation should therefore ask for Lake View explicitly, or else gets the town.
Ten of fourteen categories face the lake; that is this hotel’s rule, not its exception. And at the other end stands the Quincy Jones Suite at 120 square metres on the seventh floor, two terraces, named after the man who shaped the festival with Nobs.

Our advice: Book the Queen Fairmont with Lake View – and let the upgrade bring the 30. With 236 rooms and ten lake-facing categories the upgrade on arrival is a real quantity here, and the Deluxe at 30 to the lake is the category where it usually lands. The Fairmont Le Montreux Palace stands at Avenue Claude-Nobs 2 on the lakeshore of Montreux – six hundred metres from the station, three kilometres from Chillon Castle, 23 from Lausanne and 65 from Geneva airport.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone wanting to take Lake Geneva from its Riviera side – and for anyone who in July would like the festival at the door instead of looking for it.
What lies within reach: the lakeside promenade with the palms and the Freddie Mercury statue, at the door; Chillon Castle, the water castle at the end of the bay, by boat or on foot along the shore in forty minutes; and the vineyards of Lavaux, World Heritage, ten minutes by train.
For orientation: Montreux station lies on the Simplon line; to Lausanne twenty minutes, to Geneva a good hour, by GoldenPass to Gstaad an hour and a half. Geneva airport is an hour and ten minutes away. In Montreux one walks along the shore; everything else the train does.
