Johannes Badrutt founded it in 1856 as the first hotel in St. Moritz, and in 1864 he made a bet about the Engadine winter with English summer guests – the bet that launched Alpine winter tourism. Champfèr: About six minutes by car from St. Moritz, the Hotel Giardino Mountain St. Moritz sits in Champfèr, between St. Moritz and Silvaplana, at around 1,800 meters, between the Corviglia and Corvatsch ski areas.
