One 5-star hotel in Na Chom Thian, chosen by our travel experts: MASON Pattaya. Every suitespot booking comes with free breakfast for 2, a room upgrade subject to availability, hotel credit and VIP service – benefits worth over €500.
MASON Pattaya · Wat Nong Chap TaoFor this guide we reviewed the best hotels in Na Chom Thian and chose one: a luxury hotel right on the water – with a rare benefit in the package, and rooms in which size and view go their own ways. Our choice for Na Chom Thian is the MASON Pattaya in Wat Nong Chap Tao. In our ranking it stands at 4.7 out of 5, a night starts at 615 euros, and it belongs to Marriott Bonvoy.
Why we recommend it: Because it was completed in 2019 – by the Bangkok practice VaSLab under architect Vasu Virajsilp, on a site of 9,039 square metres, with a private pool in every single villa. It belongs to the Design Hotels and runs three places to eat and drink: the ZILA Street Bistro & Bar, the Krok-A-Café and a bar on the beach. Jomtien Beach is eleven kilometres away, central Pattaya fourteen, U-Tapao airport seventeen. Our recommended category is called Garden View Room.
Two details appear to contradict each other – and both are true.
One says: no minimum stay. The other sits in the small print of the massage and names two nights. Here is how they fit together: bookings start at one night. The massage – 60 minutes of Himalayan hot stone, for two or four people depending on the room type – is ready from the second night.
So anyone staying one night books as usual and receives breakfast, credit, upgrade and check-in times. Anyone staying two receives the massage on top. A massage in the package is a rarity.
And then the rooms, which follow a logic of their own: six categories, no suite, from 80 to 168 square metres. Only here size and view do not run in step: the smallest category at 80 square metres looks out to the ocean. The two middle ones at 90 each look onto the garden. The two largest at 168 each look out to the sea. So anyone searching by square metres does not automatically find the water – and the other way round.
One more detail: five of the six categories are villas, one is a room – and that room, 90 square metres with a garden view, is our recommended category.
Our advice: name both when you enquire – the area you want and the view you want. Here one does not follow from the other.
The MASON Pattaya lies in Wat Nong Chap Tao on the beach at Na Jomtien – eleven kilometres from Jomtien Beach, fourteen from central Pattaya, fifteen from Sattahip, seventeen from U-Tapao airport and 115 from Bangkok.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone who wants the Gulf of Thailand and the quiet with it – and for those who take Pattaya as a day trip rather than an address.
What lies within reach: Jomtien Beach, eleven kilometres, the long curve of sand south of the city; Pattaya, fourteen kilometres, with the teak-built Sanctuary of Truth and the Pratumnak viewpoint; and Sattahip, fifteen kilometres, with the bays at the southern end of this coast.
On arrival: U-Tapao airport lies seventeen kilometres away, about twenty minutes. From Bangkok Suvarnabhumi it is 115 kilometres, roughly an hour and a half on Motorway 7.
The MASON Pattaya lists six categories. None of them is a suite – but almost everything is a villa: five of the six, each with its own pool.
Sizes run from 80 to 168 square metres. In detail: a Grand Villa of 80 square metres looking at the ocean; a room of 90 with a garden view – that is our recommended category; a villa of 90 with a garden view; a Duplex Grand Villa of 154; a Beachside Villa of 168 with a sea view; and a Grand Villa of 168 straight out to the sea.
On the view: this hotel’s motifs are the sea and the garden. Three categories face the water: Ocean View, Sea View and Seafront View. Two look onto the garden. Anyone who wants to know the difference between the three spellings asks us – we settle that before booking.
What applies equally to every category: breakfast for two, 100 US dollars hotel credit, the upgrade on arrival subject to availability and early check-in and late check-out subject to availability. On top of that the 60-minute Himalayan hot stone massage, for two or four people depending on the room type, from the second night.
A night at the luxury hotel in Na Chom Thian starts at 615 euros. That places the hotel in the upper price bracket.
Bookings start at one night. Included are the benefits above; the massage joins from the second night.
When it is loveliest: from November to February. It is dry then, and daytime temperatures sit around thirty degrees.
What belongs to the Gulf of Thailand: the rainy season from May to October. It brings short, heavy showers – mostly in the afternoon, mostly over before the evening starts.
When to ask early: around Christmas and New Year and for Chinese New Year in January or February.
How long to stay: at least two nights – for the massage alone –, better four to five if Pattaya and Sattahip are to come along.
And whatever the date: you get the suitespot benefits in the quietest week of the year just as you do in the busiest.
Na Chom Thian is the strip of coast south of Pattaya, in the district of Sattahip. Anyone driving here drives past the city on purpose: the beach is the same gulf, the density is another.
