Maison Métier · Warehouse DistrictWhich one suits you depends on how you want to experience New Orleans. If design comes first, book Maison Métier: 67 rooms, interiors by Studio Shamshiri and evening wine and charcuterie in a Living Room reserved for hotel guests. For cocktail nights, we recommend the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot New Orleans and its Peacock Room, where drinks are mixed at a 19th-century bar.You recognize a boutique hotel in New Orleans by its character more than its size. Maison Métier has 67 rooms, Hotel de la Poste New Orleans 97. The Kimpton Hotel Fontenot New Orleans and NOPSI New Orleans are larger, with 235 and 216 rooms, but they too rely on their own bars, their own restaurant concept and interiors that fit the building. All five are within walking distance of the French Quarter.
Hotel de la Poste New Orleans · French QuarterFrench Quarter: If you want to stay right in the historic heart of the city, book Hotel de la Poste New Orleans on Chartres Street, near Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral. Behind the facade lies a quiet courtyard with a pool, overlooked by the Carriage House suites.
Warehouse District: About six blocks from the French Quarter, Maison Métier sits on Carondelet Street, a block off St. Charles Avenue. Right next door is The Barnett New Orleans, on the St. Charles streetcar line. The Kimpton Hotel Fontenot New Orleans stands at the corner of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas Streets, just a few blocks from the French Quarter.
Central Business District: NOPSI New Orleans is on Baronne Street in the business district, a short walk from the French Quarter and Bourbon Street.
The Kimpton Hotel Fontenot New Orleans is right on the Mardi Gras parade route. If you want to watch the parades from your hotel, ask early: our travel advisors will check which rooms are still available for your dates.
Our tip for design lovers is Maison Métier. Studio Shamshiri, led by Pamela Shamshiri, gave the former City Hall Annex from 1908 its maximalist interiors, while the firm Eskew+Dumez+Ripple handled the conversion. The house opened in 2019 as Maison de la Luz and has been part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt since 2024. It holds one Michelin Key.
The Barnett New Orleans · Warehouse DistrictNext door, The Barnett New Orleans shows how a department store becomes a hotel. Weiss, Dreyfous and Seiferth designed the Art Deco building in 1928 for Barnett’s Furniture Store, owned by Max Barnett. For the 2016 conversion, Eskew+Dumez+Ripple took on the architecture and Roman and Williams the interiors, earning a 2016 AIA Louisiana Honor Award and a 2017 AIA Gulf States Merit Award. Until 2024 the house was the Ace Hotel New Orleans.
NOPSI New Orleans · Central Business DistrictAt NOPSI New Orleans, locals once paid their bills and bought streetcar tokens: the nine-story brick building from 1927, designed by Favrot and Livaudais, was the headquarters of New Orleans Public Service, the city’s electricity, gas and transit utility. After standing empty for decades, it reopened as a hotel in 2017. The terrazzo floors, the stone-top counters in the lobby and a 24-foot crane in the ballroom remain. The house is a member of Historic Hotels of America.
The Kimpton Hotel Fontenot New Orleans is younger: it opened in 2021, with interiors by MARKZEFF. Its heart is the Peacock Room, with mosaic floors, furniture from different eras and a 19th-century bar.
Hotel de la Poste New Orleans combines location and history: from 1731 this was the Ursuline nuns’ garden, and in the 1860s a clothing factory followed. The name refers to the hitching posts once lined up along the street. Since the 2024 renovation, jewel-toned interiors and local art inspired by the city’s music and culture set the tone.
With 67 rooms, Maison Métier is the smallest house in this selection and is laid out like a Parisian guesthouse. Coffee arrives at your room in the morning, turndown service in the evening, and room service is available around the clock. From 6 to 8 p.m., complimentary wine and charcuterie are served in the guests-only Living Room, and you help yourself at the honor bar.
Kimpton Hotel Fontenot New Orleans · Warehouse DistrictHotel de la Poste New Orleans has 97 rooms around a quiet courtyard with a pool. Couples will love the Carriage House suites overlooking the courtyard; if you’d rather watch the French Quarter go by, choose one of the French Quarter suites with a balcony.
The larger houses offer more choice in suites. NOPSI New Orleans counts 60 suites among its 216 rooms; the penthouse level has terrace rooms and the Power Suite with a wraparound rooftop terrace. At the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot New Orleans, 45 of the 235 rooms are suites, and every evening from 5 to 6 p.m. the hotel hosts a social hour in the lobby living room.
Maison Métier has no pool of its own, but its guests can use the rooftop pool and gym of sister hotel The Barnett New Orleans next door. That way you combine the intimate house with an afternoon at the High Five pool on the 9th floor.
For cocktail nights, we recommend three bars. At Maison Métier, a secret door next to the Living Room leads into Salon Salon, a crimson-toned bar serving French Creole food; reservations are required and hotel guests get priority. In the Peacock Room at the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot New Orleans, cocktails come from the punch bowl, with live music on Thursdays. And Henry’s Gin Bar at NOPSI New Orleans pays tribute to Henry C. Ramos and the Ramos Gin Fizz, with a lush patio.
For dinner, you may not want to leave. King Brasserie & Bar at the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot New Orleans pairs Gulf Coast ingredients with French technique and Riviera flavors and received a 2025 Wine Spectator Restaurant Award; Wednesdays bring wine tastings. At Public Service in NOPSI New Orleans, Executive Chef Adam Korbel cooks modern Creole, with a raw bar, an open-flame rotisserie and produce from Gulf Coast fishermen and farmers.
At The Barnett New Orleans, Brutto Americano serves modern Italian food with South Louisiana influences Wednesday through Sunday, alongside the Seaworthy oyster bar. For Creole cooking, head to 3rd Block Depot Kitchen + Bar at Hotel de la Poste New Orleans, which also serves Sunday brunch.
In the evening, head up to the roof: Above the Grid at NOPSI New Orleans combines a pool, a bar and skyline views, with live music and DJs at night. On the 9th floor of The Barnett New Orleans, High Five has a heated pool, cabanas and fire pits, for hotel guests only. In the same house, Good Measure hosts jazz, brass bands, R&B and hip-hop, including free shows every week.
Keep one weekend morning free for the hotel. Public Service at NOPSI New Orleans serves a jazz brunch with live music on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Peacock Room at the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot New Orleans serves brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Talk to our travel advisors if you are planning your room and brunch for the same weekend.
