Hotel TwentySeven Amsterdam · BinnenstadWhich house suits you depends on what you are looking for in Amsterdam. For couples, we recommend Hotel TwentySeven Amsterdam on Dam Square: 16 suites, each with a jacuzzi for two, plus Restaurant Bougainville by Tim Golsteijn with one Michelin star. If you want to step into history, book Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam on the Amstel, where Rembrandt’s Night Watch hung for about 70 years. You recognize a boutique hotel in Amsterdam by its building and its neighborhood. Almost every house in this selection tells a story through its walls, and many carry the signature of well-known designers. The location shapes how you experience the city: on a canal, right in the center or in a residential area with a market and a park.
Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht · canal districtCanal Ring and Jordaan: On the Prinsengracht, Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht is quiet yet central, about ten minutes on foot from Vondelpark. The Dylan Amsterdam sits on the Keizersgracht in the Nine Streets, the canal ring’s shopping district, with the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum within walking distance. Also on the Keizersgracht, in the Jordaan, we recommend Canal House Amsterdam with its garden.
Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam · CenterCity center: Hotel TwentySeven Amsterdam is right on Dam Square, overlooking the Royal Palace and the National Monument; Rokin metro station is 50 meters away. Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam stands on Nieuwe Doelenstraat on the Amstel, and most rooms look out over the water. INK Hotel Amsterdam is on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, a few minutes’ walk from Dam Square and Central Station.
Oost and De Pijp: If you prefer greenery, stay at Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits At The Park Amsterdam on the Mauritskade, right by the Oosterpark and next to the Tropenmuseum. In De Pijp, Sir Albert Hotel Amsterdam sits on Albert Cuypstraat, a few steps from the Albert Cuyp Market and within walking distance of Museumplein.
Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits At The Park Amsterdam has its own jetty for canal cruises, so your tour of the city starts right outside the door. Let our travel advisors know if you would like to plan a boat trip during your stay.
Our pick for history lovers is Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam. In this 16th-century classicist building on the Amstel, Rembrandt’s Night Watch (1642) hung for about 70 years before it moved to the Rijksmuseum. In 2016 it became NH Collection Amsterdam Doelen, and since March 2023 the house has been called Tivoli Doelen.
The Dylan Amsterdam · GrachtengordelThe Dylan Amsterdam also stands on historic ground. In 1632, architect Jacob van Campen was commissioned to build the city’s stone theater here; it burned down during a performance on May 11, 1772. From 1773 until 1998 the site belonged to a Roman Catholic charity for the elderly and poor. After a full renovation, the boutique hotel opened in 1999.
Canal House Amsterdam · JordaanThree 17th-century merchants’ houses on the Keizersgracht make up Canal House Amsterdam. Merchants lived here for three centuries before an American hotelier and collector of Dutch art turned them into a hotel in the 1950s. The current owners spent three years rebuilding the houses, keeping the Great Room, a ballroom-style hall spanning all three; the interiors are by the agency Concrete, with pieces by Marcel Wanders.
Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht was designed entirely by Marcel Wanders. The Dutch designer turned the former public library on the Prinsengracht into an “Alice in Wonderland” interior with nods to the Golden Age, Delft Blue and the city’s trading history. It opened in October 2012, and a secret garden lies between its two wings.
Other houses recall former workplaces. At INK Hotel Amsterdam, the Catholic daily De Tijd had its offices and printing house until 1974; typewriters and the 1904 blueprints in the Library Lounge tell the story, and the rooms are by Concrete Architects with drawings by Jan Rothuizen. Sir Albert Hotel Amsterdam makes use of the high ceilings and large windows of a former diamond factory, with a concept by Baranowitz + Kronenberg.
Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits At The Park Amsterdam moved into a listed 1908 university building in 2022 and received two Michelin Keys in 2025. And hotelier Eric Toren opened Hotel TwentySeven Amsterdam in October 2017 on the upper floors of a 1916 building on Dam Square; the interiors are by Wim van de Oudeweetering and Cris van Amsterdam.
For couples, Hotel TwentySeven Amsterdam is our first recommendation. It has only 16 rooms, and all of them are suites, each with a jacuzzi for two and a steam shower. Private butlers take care of your requests. Almost as small, with 23 rooms, is Canal House Amsterdam: its only suite, the Best Room, measures 60 m² and has a tub for two, and breakfast can be served in bed.
Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits At The Park Amsterdam · OostThings are personal at The Dylan Amsterdam, too. Its 41 rooms are individually designed in four styles, Loxura, Amber, Serendipity and Loft, the concierge team belongs to Les Clefs d’Or, and rental bikes are available. Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam has 81 rooms and 7 suites, with Lalique products in the bathrooms.
Sir Albert Hotel Amsterdam · De PijpIf you want places to retreat to beyond your room, choose Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits At The Park Amsterdam. Along with its 88 rooms comes The Living, a guest-only living room open around the clock with a complimentary honesty bar; at the Urban Spa you can book the sauna privately for up to four people. At Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht, with 122 rooms and 5 suites, minibar snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are included, and the sauna and steam bath at Essence Spa are free for hotel guests.
Traveling with children? Look at the larger suites: the Sir Residence at Sir Albert Hotel Amsterdam has two bedrooms and a Philippe Starck bathroom. Babysitting is available at Hotel TwentySeven Amsterdam and at INK Hotel Amsterdam, which with 149 rooms and 10 suites is the largest house in this selection.
At Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam, the Rembrandt Suite (47 m²) has a replica of the Night Watch on the very wall where the original hung for about 70 years. The Empress Suite was once the boudoir of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Our travel advisors will gladly request your preferred suite for your dates.
For food lovers, we recommend two addresses. At The Dylan Amsterdam, Executive Chef Jurgen van der Zalm cooks classic yet contemporary French cuisine at Restaurant Vinkeles; set in a former 18th-century bakery, it has held two Michelin stars since 2023. At Hotel TwentySeven Amsterdam, Executive Chef Tim Golsteijn leads Restaurant Bougainville, with one Michelin star and views over Dam Square; the wines are chosen by Maître-Sommelier Ronald Opten. For something more relaxed, BO by Bougainville has 25 seats.
INK Hotel Amsterdam · Burgwallen Oude ZijdeFor cocktail nights, we recommend three bars. Fitz’s Bar at Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits At The Park Amsterdam is styled after the Roaring Twenties, named for F. Scott Fitzgerald and was voted Gault&Millau Cocktail Bar of the Year 2026. At the PRESSROOM Bar at INK Hotel Amsterdam, the INKredible arrives with drops of real ink, mixed with local spirits such as corenwijn and genever. And at the Omber bar at Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam, you can order genever cocktails and the Night Watch, made from a 17th-century recipe.
For Asian flavors, head to Sir Albert Hotel Amsterdam: IZAKAYA combines Japanese cuisine with South American influences, with sushi, a robata grill and a 360-degree bar. At Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits At The Park Amsterdam, VanOost serves creative menus with Japanese and French influences from Wednesday to Saturday, while the Spring Cafe brasserie opens onto the Oosterpark with a large terrace. Chef Randy Karman cooks seasonal Dutch dishes at Renvy in Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht.
It is worth staying in during the day, too. At The Dylan Amsterdam, Bar Brasserie OCCO by the courtyard serves its “High Wine,” a take on high tea. At Canal House Amsterdam, breakfast is served in the Great Room overlooking the garden, and from noon the bar mixes its Canal House G&T. PRESSROOM at INK Hotel Amsterdam hosts a bottomless brunch with bubbles on weekends.
At Omber in Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam, aperitivo starts every day at 4:30 pm on the ground floor, looking out over the water. It is a fine prelude before dinner. If you are planning a dinner at Vinkeles or Bougainville, talk to our travel advisors early about both your room and your table.
