What lies within reach: the city wall with its four-kilometre circuit along the top, three hundred metres; Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, the oval square on the plan of the Roman theatre, seven hundred; the Torre Guinigi with the holm oaks on its roof, five hundred.
For orientation: Pisa with the leaning tower is half an hour away, Pisa airport likewise, Florence a good hour. Forte dei Marmi on the Versilia coast is half an hour, Torre del Lago with the Puccini festival on the lake twenty minutes. In Lucca one cycles – or walks.
