Our choice for Es Canar is the BLESS Hotel Ibiza on Avenida Cala Nova, right on the beach. In our ranking it stands at 3.9 out of 5, and a night starts at 450 euros. The hotel belongs to the Leading Hotels of the World and to their Leaders Club programme.
Why we recommend it: Because it is the hotel that brought luxury to the east of the island: opened on 13 June 2019 by the Palladium Hotel Group, 151 rooms with direct access to the sand of Cala Nova, two infinity pools – the Llum Pool Club, 35 metres long, below and EPIC on the roof –, four restaurants from the Mediterranean La Calita to the Japanese Tora Omakase and the Beldon Wellness Spa with hammam and sauna. Both pools are reserved for adults over 18; this is a hotel for couples. Our recommended category is called Deluxe Sea View.

Sixteen categories across a spread of 21 square metres – and the largest room is a room.
The rooms: 27 square metres in the Deluxe (three times, including with landscape and with sea view) and in the Room, 28 in the Deluxe Sea View, 38 and 39 in five Studios (two of them to the sea), 45 in the Mediterranean Suite to the sea, 47 in four Suites (two to the sea) and 48 in the Room Sea View. Sixteen categories between 27 and 48 square metres, ten of them suites.
That means two things. First: here the suite is a floor plan, not a size – the four Suites at 47 are one square metre smaller than the Room Sea View at 48, the hotel’s largest room, which is listed as a room. Second: our recommended Deluxe Sea View is the entry point, 27 or 28 square metres, and the sea view costs not one square metre compared with the other Deluxe. Eight of sixteen categories face the sea.
Then the package: breakfast, upgrade on arrival, Leaders Club points, early check-in and late check-out and the assurance that a single night can be booked. The points come with a condition: the Leaders Club number must be given at booking, not at reception.
And the pools: both from 18. Anyone coming with children has the beach, not the pool – that is what families should know before booking.
Our advice: Book the Deluxe Sea View and let the upgrade bring the Studio. Between 28 and 38 lie ten square metres, more than between Studio and Suite; here the upgrade on arrival is most valuable on the first step. And anyone wanting the largest room tells our travel advisors “Room Sea View” – not Suite.
Where to stay in Es Canar: on Cala Nova, five kilometres from Santa Eulària
The BLESS Hotel Ibiza stands on Avenida Cala Nova in Es Canar, right on the beach – five kilometres from Santa Eulària, eighteen from Ibiza Town and thirty road kilometres from the airport.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone wanting Ibiza without the clubs – and for couples looking for a pool without children and a beach at the door.
What lies within reach: Cala Nova itself, at the door; the hippy market of Punta Arabí, every Wednesday since 1973, on foot; and Santa Eulària with the promenade, the marina and the church on the Puig de Missa, ten minutes by car.
For orientation: Ibiza airport is half an hour away, Ibiza Town with Dalt Vila and the harbour twenty minutes, the ferry to Formentera leaves from there. In the east of the island one drives; the hotel is the place where one need not.

What belongs to Ibiza: August. Then the island is full, the road to Ibiza Town takes an hour in the evening, and Cala Nova has no free metre of sand at noon. That is not a warning but the calendar: anyone coming then has the rooftop pool – and that is from 18 and reserved.
When to ask early: in July and August, at Pentecost and for the closing weekend at the beginning of October, when the island fills one more time.
How long to stay: three nights for beach, market and Santa Eulària – four if Formentera is added as a day trip.
