The 7132 Hotel Vals stands on Poststrasse at the entrance to Vals, at 1,250 metres, with the baths immediately beside it – seventeen kilometres from Ilanz station, just under forty from Chur, a hundred from Zurich.
Our recommendation is therefore for anyone coming to Vals for the baths and wanting to sleep where they stand – and for anyone who accepts architecture as a reason for a journey.
What lies within reach: the baths themselves, for hotel guests in the morning before opening; the Zervreila reservoir at the head of the valley, with the path around the lake, half an hour; and Ilanz, the first town on the Rhine, with the Rhaetian Railway to Chur and Disentis.
For orientation: from Zurich it takes two hours by car, three by train and PostBus via Chur and Ilanz. Zurich airport is the nearest. In the valley the PostBus runs; in the village one walks.
