Where to stay in Colmar: Champ de Mars and the Petite Venise

Our recommendation for anyone seeing Colmar for the first time: the Petite Venise, with its canals and half-timbered façades, is a few minutes south-east; the Unterlinden Museum with the Isenheim Altarpiece about the same distance north. Both walks cross the old town, and both are shorter than you expect.
The park is what makes this address work. Colmar fills up during the day, especially between May and September and again in December. Stay by the Champ de Mars and you are five minutes into it and five minutes out of it again.
As for the wine route: it starts just outside town. Eguisheim, Riquewihr and Kaysersberg are all under twenty kilometres away.
